Great and necessary course for anyone working with young people. Cheryl is an excellent instructor. Thank you! Excellent use of personal stories to help use as examples to explain the different types of mental health. Cheryl was patient and supportive with technical glitches. Useful having her phone number to text. Cheryl was knowledgeable and gave us confidence in our approach to a young person in crisis in the way we can try to help and support them. The course was informative, and I found the individual learning actives and tasks accompanied with the teaching worked extremely well. The videos provided were engaging and remained focussed on the topic. I particularly felt Cheryl dealt with some of the topics that were difficult, with a high level of sensitivity and care. There was briefing prior to some of the topics. I would have possibly liked a debrief however I believed the course was excellent and I feel it will be so important for my organisation in supporting with our service users. It has now prompted me to continue further learning around mental health and building on what I have learnt from the course. Thanks to Cheryl again for her delivery of the course and demonstrating her passion. Really enjoyable and engaging course...really useful for me going forward The course is very good at highlighting all the different aspects of mental health. it doesn't just talk about depression but all the other areas that affect young people. GWMA is a mixed martial arts system which is based in Mountsorrel Leicestershire. As a mixed martial art, GWMA’s main influences are Shotokan/Goshin Ryu karate with elements of Kung Fu. Gavin Walker is the chief instructor with 34 years’ experience in martial arts and has been running his classes for 10 years. We believe that learning martial arts should be an enjoyable experience and can benefit anyone in the following ways: 1. Self-Discipline – One of the central tenets of martial arts is a focus on self-discipline. Today’s kids are so accustomed to receiving instant gratification that lessons in self-restraint and discipline aren’t always easy to come by. Kids with a martial arts background, however, are continually reminded of how essential self-discipline is. 2. Boosting Socialization Skills – People who don’t always thrive in highly social environments may find it easier to get to know people and make new friends when they’re in a room filled with peers who share a common interest. The kids on the playground may not always have much common ground, but devotees to the martial arts are able to get to know one another through shared pursuits. 3. I am Jacqui Shankly, and I have worked for over 20 years supporting families with young children. I began working in Early Years community music for the charity sector, working with families throughout Staffordshire and the West Midlands. I loved my work, and what fascinated me most was the power of music to stimulate fun, playfulness, conversations and connection between children and their parents and carers. So began a lifetime of interest and research into early childhood development and attachment, culminating in training as a Play Therapist and founding Moonbeams CIC, an organisation dedicated to promoting positive childhood mental health through direct work with children, and support for the adults around them. My passion and joy is working with families. Parents are their child’s first and most enduring teacher, and the family dynamic forms the basis of a child’s future view of the world. Parenting is one of the most demanding jobs in the world, and everyone needs support from time to time. My approach is playful, non-judgemental and supportive.
