Durham University Fencing Club has a long-standing reputation for being one of the leading programmes in British University Sport, and is currently the #1 university fencing club in the country. Facilities, Coaches, and Training The club boasts the only purpose-built university fencing salle in the UK, with four permanent metal pistes, four training pistes, and one wheelchair fencing frame. In addition to phenomenal facilities, Durham also has a top-class training programme. Club sessions are run by head coach Laszlo Jakab, who has coached athletes to become Olympic, Commonwealth, and National Champions in all three weapons. Assistant coach Stewart Watson has also returned from a stint as performance director for Singapore Fencing, and similarly offers one-to-one lessons. In addition to training, team fencers can also take part in Strength and Conditioning sessions, run by the University’s Performance Sport Programme. Performance Fencing The club’s top teams are regular winners of BUCS, a competitive league in the UK comparable to the NCAA. BUCS takes place throughout the year in both a League and knockout Cup format. Both 1st teams were BUCS Champions in 2020, a title now claimed by the men’s team 4 times. The men’s 1st team has also reached the finals of the Cup for 4 years of the last 5, and the women’s 1st team for 3. The club won three gold medals at the BUCS National Individual Championships 2020, two of which were by members of our women’s 1st team. The talent that we have attracted is testament to the strength of our programme. Many of our performance fencers have represented their nations at World and European Championships, Commonwealth, Pan American, and Central American games. POUND® was created in 2011 by two women who were both recreational drummers and former college athletes. They relied heavily on stability-based exercises like pilates to keep their bodies aligned, symmetrical and lean, but were bored with routine and longed to reignite the fun in exercise. It wasn’t until they were forced to drum without a stool and squat over the drum kit that they realized drumming and exercise could be one and the same. Led by co-creator and CEO, Kirsten Potenza, POUND® is currently taught by over 25,000 instructors in 100+ countries to hundreds of thousands of participants a week, making an active, supportive and passionate community.

We have decided to cap sessions at 16 participants, to allow for space in the gym. As much as Covid regulations have eased, we believe that it is worth keeping the space in the gym. In addition to this, it makes for a better training environment if the gym is not too crowded. However, at times we may allow additional attendees at the coach’s discretion. We will continue to monitor this. We currently are not requesting participants to show a negative test before training. We would ask however that you are sensible. If you are showing covid symptoms, then please do not attend a session. If you do test positive please do let us know as soon as possible so we can contact other members so everyone can test themselves. Please do maintain social distancing as much as is possible in the gym. We will continue to review this and if we are unfortunate enough to have cases in the gym, or if government guidance changes, then we may have to think about asking for a negative test result before attending. Gemini run semi structured sessions as these sessions are for adults. There will be a group warm up and basic lines and/or conditioning at the start of each session. After this, participants will be able to use the gym as they see fit. However, there is always a coach in the room who will be more than happy to offer coaching advice and guidance if requested of them and please don’t be afraid to ask us – it is what we are there for! Coaches will also monitor the room and if a particular piece of apparatus is busy we may ask you to rotate to a different piece if you have been on the same one for a while. Whilst we make every effort to ensure sessions go ahead, please be aware that there may be times that sessions will have to be cancelled. If this happens every effort will be made to make up the missed session, either by rolling over your session to another day or adding an additional session to make up for this. This usually only happens due to staff sickness or unavailability due to training courses or competitions. BG Membership We do require all our members, whether casual or regular, to be BG registered. This is for insurance purposes as gymnastics is a high risk sport and accidents can occur. The membership is £19 for the year. If you chose not to become BG registered, then you accept that you are training entirely at your own risk and Gemini are not liable for any accidents that happen. We also reserve the right to deny entry to anyone who is not registered. https://www.british-gymnastics.org/renewal-options Missed Sessions If you cannot make a session, we understand! Life happens. However, we would appreciate it if you could let us know at least 24 hours before the session so we can fill your space. We do quite often have a waiting list due to the capped numbers. If you let us know 24 hours or more in advance that you cannot make a session, we are more than happy to roll your session over to another one WITHIN THE SAME MONTH. However, if you do not let us know then we will not allow the session to be rolled over and you will not receive a refund. Of course, if there are extenuating circumstances, we will judge these on a case-by-case basis. New Members We are always happy to welcome new members. However, I would ask that you please don’t share the booking link with anyone. If anyone is interested, then please do give them Becky’s contact details so she can set them up on the system before booking in for sessions. Behaviour and General Etiquette At Gemini we have worked hard to create friendly and fun adult sessions, where we can genuinely say most of our members become friends. To this end, any unsociable behaviour will not be tolerated. All our members and staff have a right to be respected and treated fairly. Any abuse (verbal or physical), disrespect, bullying etc will never be tolerated and if this happens you will be asked to leave the club immediately.

Reading

Fundamental Fitness and Athletic development centres are based in and around the Reading area. Our aim is to get children involved and enjoying participating in physical activity through fitness and athletics regardless of their ability or background, boosting their sporting standards, confidence and setting the building blocks for a healthy life. "After doing well in a primary inter school sports day, my then teacher recommended I joined an athletics club. At the age of 9 I started with Reading athletics club and have never looked back. I started in the multi events group and quickly moved over to the throwing disciplines after breaking one of the long-standing club records for Javelin- a distance that ranked me 24th in the UK. Whilst continuing with other events for fun, I later specialised in Discus throwing and went on to compete for my club, county and region at various national events, spending several seasons inside of the top 20 in the UK for my age group, and gaining gold medals at county championships, South of England championships and National League finals along the way. It was during the 2012 season, after captaining the Reading squad and winning the National league final with them that I decided I wanted to coach and team manage for the younger age groups. Fundamental Fitness & Athletics Charlotte Webb 6 Years later and my passion is to see children getting enjoyment and success from their sporting careers. I am a qualified Level 2 UKA athletics coach, coaching Reading AC U11, U13 and throwing squads. I am also team manager for the boy’s national premier league team and over the 6 seasons have qualified for 4 national finals. We are currently UK champions for u13 and u15 age groups. To enhance my athletics coaching ability I have also studied level 3 personal training and nutrition which helps me to develop all the key areas of conditioning for the athletes. In 2018 we have qualified for national finals, raced at the Muller games Diamond league events, and seen numerous athletes improve on the personal best performances. I have since been recognised as the winner of the ‘Young volunteer of the year' award by England athletics for the South East region and finished inside the top 3 in the country. If you have any questions at all about our Fundamental Fitness & Athletics sessions please don't hesititate to get in touch"
