She has over 15 years of management consulting and international development experience working for organisations including Aon Hewitt, Positive PlaNet, Accenture, and Dalberg. She has advised corporate, non-profit and government clients across four continents in over a dozen countries in areas such as growth strategy, learning and development, impact evaluation, organisation design, and advocacy. James Gregory is the Founder & CEO of the Manchester-based Charity, Families Against Violence (FAM). The Charity has its origins in a tragic event over 13 years ago when the Founder’s son was shot dead in a case of mistaken identity in a gangland act of revenge. James personally experienced the lack of support for Black families in such tragic circumstances and resolved to do something about it. He founded Families Against Violence, a charity supporting principally Black and ethnic minority families in the Moss Side area with the over-arching aim of helping to prevent young people getting sucked into anti-social behaviour, criminal activity, gangs and violence. FAM works with hundreds of children and young people each week. The Charity uses sport, principally football, to engage with children and young people. Trained and experienced coaches can then mentor and become role models, helping sometimes hard-to-reach young people find pathways into training and employment and to have better life-chances. Separate from his role with FAM, James is the CEO of AAM. In both of these roles, and working with a network of experienced and inspirational coaches and trainers, he: – I. Networks with local and regional stakeholders, including in the criminal justice system; II. Acts as an advocate for addressing social injustices, particularly for Black and Ethnic Minority Communities; III. Plans, organises and runs sports events and activities for young people; IV. Plans and organises training events for young people; V. Manages a network of local sports coaches; and VI. Mentors young people. To support his role, James is a certified football coach and has obtained qualifications in ‘Working with Gangs’ and ‘Training the Trainer’, both from Birmingham University. He also has earned a mentoring Diploma from Manchester Metropolitan University. Feeding into his role with FAM, James spent 12 months as a Youth Worker for User Voice, an organisation that gives a voice to people in the criminal justice system. In that job he worked with young offenders in prisons help manage their reintegration into society.

Stephen Shiell and Hannah White are artist duo Blanc Sceol. Their compositions, interventions and performances express their experience of place, anchored in what is found in a landscape but re-imagined into new territories. They create encounters to connect both materially and energetically to their surroundings. They are certified Deep Listening® practitioners and regularly run workshops and sound walks exploring listening and sound making in public spaces. They have worked with a variety of and experimental platforms such as Anti-university, Fort Process, We’re All Bats, MIA festival and Art’s Birthday and cultural institutions such as Ashmolean Museum, The Royal Academy, Centre for Art and Media Karlsruhe and Oxford Contemporary Music. In 2018 they established Surge Cooperative, a collaborative effort to benevolently occupy the Channelsea river in London. Their research seeks to live with, listen with and act with this vital living system, finding new ways to tackle problems of neglect and misuse whilst navigating ancient acts of parliament and institutional backwaters to fight for the protection of this waterway.

The programme is taught with a ‘learn by doing’ approach. While, like any UCL Master's degree, a rigorous base of research underlies the programme, the emphasis is on supporting students to develop the skills needed to succeed as CEO and/or co-founder of a high impact, innovative business. Modules are academically testing, requiring a combination of assessments, and reading of key texts. However, all coursework is intended to give students an opportunity to develop a start-up, and most of the teaching is collaborative, experiential and driven by ‘build measure learn’ cycles where students take action, analyse, and reflect on the effects caused by that action, and decide on the next action to take. Themes of sustainable capitalism are embedded into several of the modules of the programme, reflecting our desire to create for-profit businesses that can also benefit our wider society and respect the environment.

To date, the award-winning company has sold nearly 1 million courses to consumers in over 30 countries. The strategic investment, in partnership with BE-A’s founders, marks a new phase in BE-A’s continuing mission to bring affordable and accessible upskilling courses to consumers and businesses globally through its direct-to-consumer platform, New Skills Academy, and its SME-focused business platform, Staff Skills Training. WHICH ORGANISATIONS: Brought heads of private sector organisations, public sector bodies, political leaders and leaders of NGOs together into a collective learning space. Their common goal was the desire to have a positive impact on their organisations, their countries and their region. We have held these across Sub-Saharan Africa as well as within the region of Southern Africa, Asia (drawing people from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Malaysia) and Latin America. WHO WE WORKED WITH: Leaders, influencers and manager from a diverse cross-section of sectors and occupations. WHAT WE DID: Offered established leaders from the public, private and voluntary sectors who are at or near the CEO level, an opportunity to transform what they and their organisations do. This was done using transformational leadership theory and experiential learning techniques to enable cross-cultural conversations and mutual learning. This enabled each individual to draw on new techniques and cross sector experiences to develop their thinking and practice. OUTCOMES: Leaders who lead with a greater sense of themselves, the systems they work in and the wider network of leaders that they can both influence and draw on as a resource. Shifted the way leaders see their responsibility and accountability not only to their organisation but to the wider context in which they work. Created a network of leaders who together are committed to make change.
