This qualification is ideal for those already working, or preparing to work within industry wishing to become a First Aider in the workplace for the purposes of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982. Topics covered include: the roles and responsibilities of the First Aider, CPR, Using a defibrillator, assessing an incident, recognising signs and symptoms of injury and illness, assisting a casualty who is suffering from major injury and illness, chest injuries, spinal injuries and anaphylaxis. How long will it take me to achieve this qualification? This is a 3 credit qualification, with a guided learning hour’s value of 24 and it has a minimum contact time of 18 hours, which is typically delivered via a 3 day course. For those retraining, the course time can be reduced to 2 days. How is the qualification assessed? Learners must undertake a practical assessment of their competence along with a short open response knowledge assessment, where learners are required to provide a short response to a prescribed series of questions. What next? In line with guidance provided by the HSE, the qualification supports/approves work place first aiders for a period of 3 years, after which point learners will need to retake the course. Course Details The NRSWA Unit 1 course provides delegates with the knowledge and practical skills required to sign, light and guard Street works and roadworks in line with the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, revised 2002 Code of Practice. This course covers the setting out of traffic lights, signs, cones and barriers. If you supervise these works, then you will need the Unit 10 course. Product objectives include: Producing a plan of an intended site showing the position of signs, guarding and traffic signals - to include all distances, sizes, and dimensions required; Producing a list of equipment for the intended site; Fault finding on roadworks layouts; Position, test, adjust, commission and decommission temporary traffic signals; Conducting the activities safely wearing the appropriate safety wear.

BOHS P904 - Management and control in leisure, display, therapy and other non-industrial systems is there to provide background and an overview of the risk of Legionella infection and how it can be controlled in leisure, display, therapy and other non-industrial water systems. It is a requirement of this course that candidates have successfully completed P901- Legionella- Management and Control of Building Hot and Cold Water Services [Syllabus GM.1]. Where both P901 and P904 courses are run on subsequent days or as a combined course then this pre-requirement is waived.

Mental Health First Aid

This is a certified course that teaches CPR, AED, First Aid, and Bleeding Control. The course includes bleeding control, including wound packing and tourniquet application. This course certifies for Adult, Child, and Infant CPR.

For higher risk or larger workplaces/organisations such as engineering, factories, restaurants, warehousing, construction or for those who use chemicals. This is also the appropriate course for larger low risk workplaces or workplaces who have employees with medical conditions. 2 Day First Aid Refresher Description:The 2 day First Aid at Work Requalification Course is nationally recognised. It meets the standards required to help comply with Health and Safety (First aid) regulations. The 2-Day first Aid at Work Refresher Course is appropriate for candidates who are currently holding an in-date and valid full First Aid at Work Qualification. Upon completion of the course the candidates qualification is renewed for a further three years. Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and care of the unconscious requires physical effort. Learners should be capable of working with casualties at floor level. Learners receive a First Aid at Work guide book, a training dressing and a CPR barrier protection device. The HSE strongly recommend that all First Aiders undertake annual refresher training of at least 3 hours per year.
