Making Life Better on the Water The Newark Crusader offers affordable pre-booked cruises on the River Trent from Newark Marina for care homes, elderly, special needs, community, and educational groups with excellent disabled access, including those in wheelchairs. The pleasure of cruising on the River Trent is therapeutic, helping people relax and enjoy being in contact with wildlife and the outdoors. The Newark Crusader is a not-for-profit charity run entirely by volunteers. There is a large open foredeck, a heated saloon, a disabled toilet and a small galley/kitchen. The boat can carry up to 12 passengers and there are usually two trips a day lasting roughly 2 hours.  The cost of the service starts as low as £6 per person, but we do ask for a minimum contribution of £60 per trip towards our costs. Starting working life as a teacher, Heather became a head teacher, adviser, senior adviser and Director for School Improvement. She has worked in large Local Authorities, metropolitan areas and across regions as a Children’s Services Adviser. Her experience includes improving departmental performance, Health, Children’s Social care, Youth and Education. Heather is curious about what is happening in children’s lives and exploring why it has happened. Picture David Connor has extensive experience of working in Children’s Services within the public sector, particularly in Education but also in commissioning, partnership working and integrated services. David's experience includes over twenty years in teaching including Headships in three schools, university lecturing with a specialism in Early Years education and work in Eastern Europe developing systems and structures for the delivery of effective education. Following his work in schools, David joined a Local Authority advisory service, initially as an adviser for primary education and then as a senior adviser with responsibility for a team of forty advisers and consultants before eventually becoming Chief Adviser for a large Local Authority with over 430 schools. After a spell as Deputy Director of Education, he was promoted to the post of Strategic Deputy Director of Children’s Services with responsibility for departmental planning, evaluation and quality assurance (Education and Social Care), information and data, external partnerships, commissioning – public, private and voluntary sectors, oversight of schools and workforce development. Since 2010, David has worked as an Independent Consultant undertaking commissions for the Centre for Excellence, National Children’s Bureau, National College and Children’s Improvement Board. This has included evaluations of Local Authority structures and services and assessment against the Test of Assurance, support to Local Authorities to develop new systems and structures for Children’s services and school improvement systems, a scoping study for the development of a Knowledge Transfer Centre in Northern Ireland and the provision of support to aspiring leaders in Children’s Services.

We are a small‚ family run company with a passion for electroplating‚ electroforming, metal finishing and providing a great service‚ not only to our own customers but anyone who needs help or advice. Gateros Plating started‚ as most things do‚ as a hobby. We have been restoring motorbikes for a long time‚ during our restorations‚ most of our metal parts had been sent to industrial platers. We found that there was a large gap between the price of the service and the quality of finished part we received. This is because‚ unfortunately‚ our parts were one of thousands rushed through a large‚ busy‚ impersonal company. After some research and testing we put together our first electroplating system. The results were great and the price was low! Having excess chemicals and the ease of plating at home lead us to the idea of supplying kits to everyone else. We have grown along with our company and feel we can supply not only comprehensive kits that give excellent results but quality advice too. Our kits and products are based on the same principles and chemicals as industrial plating systems. We are therefore confident that‚ if you follow the instructions with care and attention‚ the results from our kits will be of a very high standard. Our tank plating kits are ideal for almost all objects and can give a wide range of finishes. They are capable of plating onto various metals including steel, iron, brass, copper and more. There are two sides to electroplating‚ the scientific side and the practical side. Both can seem overwhelming and complicated if you are not familiar with the concepts‚ processes and if you are completely new to covering things with shiny metal. That is why we have decided to start offering electroplating lessons. They will cover the breadth of knowledge needed to get you plating confidently and effectively. We will start with a little about the fundamental scientific basics of plating followed by a complete practical overview of the process‚ covering the importance of cleaning‚ setting up your tank and things to watch out for‚ mixing chemicals and wiring the electronics‚ the plating process‚ and finally what to do afterwards.

I deliver quirky, unusual art and craft workshops in a number of local crafting venues across Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Leicestershire. I can also bring Quirkshops to any suitable venue and tailor the workshop to the specific needs of a client. The workshops typically last between 2 – 6 hours, occasionally more in-depth workshops may be held over a number of weeks. My background. I have always been creative but from an early age I had to choose between a scientific and artistic career. Having spent most of my childhood holidays in Devon with my head dangling over a pontoon staring into the green-blue depths and the curious creatures within, it seemed natural for me to study marine biology (you get the octopus logo now!). A convoluted route led me through a PhD studying marine neurotoxins to a career in Public Health for 18 years. But I always wanted to create. I took a year out and started to volunteer at a local community farm, FarmEco, a magical place with the most amazing people. That is where things fell together: connecting with nature, creativity and my desire to help people to improve their wellbeing. I can often be found at the farm, hands covered in charcoal or paint and looking windswept and with a smile on my face. Nature and wellbeing. I am passionate about the benefits to our wellbeing that creativity can bring and to combine this with immersing yourself in nature can be a powerful tonic. Many of my workshops take place entirely outdoors, spending time not just creating in but connecting with nature through simple practices which awaken the senses. By connecting with nature we develop a desire to care for nature and that is something we desperately need in this time of climate crisis. Workshops. The focus of the workshops is to nurture creative talent in everyone through a wide range of art and craft skills. The experiences are shared in a group but will be unique and personal (people won’t all produce the same thing at the end) and the process is every bit as important as the things that people produce.
