We are open Monday to Friday from 8am until 6pm all year round and closed on bank holidays and the period between christmas and new year Clarence House Nursery, set in the leafy West End of Glasgow, has indoor and outdoor facilities. Shirley Hexley, the nursery owner, has been providing wraparound childcare since 1998 for 0-5 year olds. Clarence House has an excellent reputation for having a calm and nurturing environment that encourages children to be independent, develop social skills and explore new experiences. Staff are committed to understanding the individual needs of each child and work closely with parents to consolidate learning and help each child reach their full potential. Clarence House is a small nursery and recent comments from parents have included “higglety pigglety” and “quirky”. Most visitors comment on the nice feeling they get when they come in. Because of the small size of the nursery it feels homely and welcoming. Children are not regulary moved about from room to room and this allows relationships to develop into meaningful and positive friendships that can last through to school. And in the words of one of the children “we are a happy nursery”. Some of our strengths are : Our highly qualified and experienced staff follow Pre-Birth to Three and the Curriculum for Excellence which provides a framework for learning and supports all children well as they make the transition into school. We offer a broad range of indoor and outdoor activities with a focus on Health and Wellbeing, Literacy and Numeracy. There are also opportunities for children to explore areas such as Science and Technology, Expressive Arts and Social Studies. A daily exercise programme which establishes an introduction to the importance of health and wellbeing. Fees include a hot cooked meal at lunchtime, snacks, drinks, external specialists, events and outings. Partnership with Glasgow City Council offers funding for all 3-5 year old who live within Glasgow City Council. Through yoga and mindfulness, I help people to slow down, prioritise their wellbeing and feel more peace day to day. I’ll let you into a secret though… the old me was not a calm, happy, chilled out yoga teacher! The old me worked long hours in jobs I didn’t enjoy, feeling constantly stressed and overwhelmed. I said yes to everything and put way too much pressure on myself. Life felt busy, I wasn’t happy and my mental health started to suffer too. It was at this point I realised something had to give. So I left my job at the time, took a step back and dived into all things health and wellbeing. Little did I know, three things would change my whole way of living. First, I found yoga. What started as 30 days of Yoga with Adriene on YouTube (highly recommend!) turned into a regular practice, and I realised how amazing it felt to properly slow down and take care of my mind and body in this way. Yoga has made me stronger, happier and more myself. It’s given me a way to find peace amidst the busyness of life. As I learnt more about yoga, I started practicing meditation regularly, and found that it gave me an even deeper sense of calm and mental clarity. Meditation has taught me how to become present and cultivate a calmer, clearer mindset, and it’s become a daily practice that I now couldn’t do without. I love to share this with others by starting every yoga class with some meditation. And last but not least, I discovered mindfulness. This is perhaps the most valuable practice I’ve ever learnt, and weaving it into my daily life has had such an impact on how I feel and experience the world around me. Mindfulness has helped me to appreciate my life more fully and find a balance between doing and being. This is something I want everyone to experience, so I now use my classes, workshops and other offerings to spread mindfulness more widely. Movement. Meditation. Mindfulness. These practices have become the three M’s I live by. They’ve improved my life more than I can say and now everything I do is about sharing them with others. Danny Lai is from Taichung, Taiwan. There, he learned many different kinds of martial arts, including Tai Chi, Hsing-Yi, Ba Gua, Tae Kwon Do and Shaolin. Tai Chi Punch Although each style of Tai Chi Chuan has its peculiar features, the five styles of Tai Chi Chuan something in common, they are: With a calm mind the performer breathes naturally. In peace and ease the performer moves lightly, softly, slowly and equally. The performer moves harmoniously and in a balanced way. The performer moves like a circle–graceful and perfect. The motion is slow and steady and strong strength (yang) and weak strength (yin) can be used in motions mutually. Tai Chi Chuan has attracted attention internationally. It has special functions in promoting health and preventing illness. To help the performer to concentrate their mind and to make their motions coordinate with their breath, music can be played to accompany practice. Flow with the sound of the musical instruments. In following the rhythms of the music, practicing Tai Chi Chuan will relieve stress and benefit health. Crescent Kick (Shuang Pai Chiao) The name Tai Chi comes from the Taoist symbol the West calls yin (black) and yang (white). This Tai Chi symbol represents two balanced opposites: black and white, sky and earth, fire and water, masculine and feminine, moon and sun. Feminine is the black or yin. Masculine is light or yang. The yin side of Tai Chi is like yoga, moving meditation, or chi kung. The yang side is the martial art – the practical application of the movements – using your power. Most often the yang side of Tai Chi is not taught. The healing benefits without the martial application is the yin without the yang. Through the movements of Tai Chi, one can set the mind and body in balance. It is not easy to do. You want to make sure that for every movement in motion (yang) or at rest (yin) your body is moving together. Through Tai Chi training, you can learn more about yourself and you can feel calm and peaceful all the time. It is a kind of martial art, but it is a gentle martial art. It is not for attacking, but has powerful self-defense applications.
