We will review some familiar functions of the Old Testament in Spiritual Direction, and then move on to explore some different ways to make use of less familiar OT stories and poems. Our investigation will be a mix of input, conversation, and prayer … and have a Bible at hand!

The Gospels are a rich source of instruction for spiritual directors, not least as a window into how Jesus did it. We will look at Jesus as a spiritual director as he met with some familiar NT characters such as the woman at the well, Nicodemus, Bartimaus and the twelve disciples. There will be a blend of input, conversation and prayer. Liz has been involved in spiritual direction since her early twenties and for many years had oversight of spiritual formation at an Anglican theological college. She now works part-time at St Bede’s Pastoral Centre in York. She has written two books: Using the Bible in spiritual direction and Twelve great women
