Sarah is a former Latin American and Ballroom dancer and she competed in the UK and abroad for many years. ABOUT US Wuntanara – meaning ‘we are together’ in the Soussou language from Guinea Conakry – is a collective of outstanding artists from West Africa and dedicated African drumming and dance students from across Europe. Master Drummer Souleymane Compo is the Founder and Artistic Director Wuntanara, and CEO of Wuntanara Ltd. Souleymane was born into the proud musical tradition in Guinea. As a young man he travelled to The Gambia, where he continued his training in the traditional arts with Guinean masters, in the famous Fatala Drum and Dance School. He soon began teaching African drumming and dance to students from all over the world. An accomplished dancer, he also became choreographer and lead dancer for the Fatala Ballet troupe. Souleymane moved from Africa to London in 2004. Since then he has been teaching and performing in schools, weekly classes, festivals and private events across the UK. He combines warmth and patience with great musical knowledge and skill. He is an inspiring teacher, as well as an accomplished performer. Wuntanara's lead dancer is Salif Camara Salif belongs to a family of Guinean artists, and began dancing at a young age. An exhilarating dancer, Salif has performed in some of the most acclaimed Guinean ballet troupes and teaches Guinean dance to student across Europe as well as in Guinea. The Rose Arts London was always a childhood dream of mine and it was manifested through a pain in my life, with the loss of my Grandad; Charles Alexander Gardner. He, alongside my Mother and Nan, supported me with my dance and drama training, performance career and attended all classes, auditions and performances. When he passed away, it pushed me to embrace my artistry and passions. The Rose represents three things: A dedication to my Grandad; His favourite flower A name influence; My middle name Rosetta and my mother Rosemarie The flourish of each child who trains with us. As a seed they begin but as ‘The Rose’ they grow. Experience My training began at Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts and have been training in every discipline, since the age of 3 and teaching dance and drama since the age of 14. Ballet, Tap, Modern, Contemporary, Lyrical, Liturgical, Street Dance, Jazz, Commercial and Musical Theatre. Further to this, I attended college studied Performing Arts, obtaining distinctions in the art form, allowing me to receive an unconditional offer to University, where I obtained my degree in Dance Practice and Performance. I have had an extensive career in the arts, through stage, film and television and have received such amazing opportunities I am truly grateful for. About T.R.A.L. T.R.A.L. is a place for all Rose Students to discover, train, explore, create, challenge and motivate what they learn here and to ignite their passion, of why dance, drama, sport and song is such an amazing artistic outlet, which not only teaches creativity and utilises talent but also discipline. The role of the arts builds character and self-esteem and at The Rose Arts London, one of the assets that I hold as an important part, is the family friendly atmosphere.This delivers a guarantee from us, that our space is a positive and productive learning environment, where our students can grow, most importantly learn, and create in an energetic, confident building atmosphere. Students are able to discover more about themselves artistically, gain new friends and be proud to be a part of The Rose Arts. Myself and our teachers, who have work(ed) within the industry, aim to continually make The Rose Arts London a success, with the passion we hold and with which, our goal is to impart our experiences, knowledge and love of the arts to our students. I have been blessed to be able to open a school, attended by such passionate students, to be able to witness how they will develop in years to come. For whatever reason you decided to take a leap with us, whether it to be a creative outlet, confidence builder, opportunity to meet new people, train to become a professional or all the above – I expect all to work hard, train hard, practice, be respectful, be challenged, but most importantly enjoy every moment of the journey.

We organize meetings and social and community events with a view to decreasing social isolation and promoting diversity in the community. We also organise a varied schedule of events for the wider community during Black History Month. Our mentoring schemes introduce Young People to careers in the creative and food industries, while our outreach work has included collaboration and meetings with local schools, hate crime organisations, youth schemes and Sutton United. Kaleidoscope (available online and in hard copy format) is our fledgling magazine which gives a regular overview of our charity initiatives, together with articles on African, Caribbean and British culture, politics, history, and sport, with a view to giving writers of all social backgrounds a voice on their topics of interest.

Our Ballet classes include some set structured technical work from the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance syllabus, along with some creative movement. All children have the opportunity to take ISTD Ballet exams when they are ready to be entered. (8-10yrs) Tap uses a different skill set to Ballet and Jazz as the emphasise is on creating rhythm and sound using footwork. Due to the nature of Tap, the physicality of the work is mainly focused on the legs, hips, knees and ankles and of course those tapping feet! Tap teaches a great sense of rhythm, timing and musical awareness.
