wanting to learn how to create shoes entirely by hand led me to pestering the local clog maker to take me on as his Saturday girl, after a couple of years I got a place at cordwainers college, then part of central and st martins. when I finished my degree, I went straight into an apprenticeship in the west end of london. I was very lucky as apprenticeships were and still are, very few and far between. for 12 years, I worked exclusively for boot and shoe companies, including john lobb, cleverly and jason amesbury, in the west end and mayfair. a chance conversation led to a residency at the royal armories in leeds where I spent two years working with the in-house leather worker to produce 30 pairs of jack boots for the household cavalry. while I was there I began to think about producing a collection of leather goods under my own name. I was encouraged when my first show sold out completely. I have worked hard to build on that success becoming more creative with styling and inventive with detail as the collection has grown. I am currently working on a series of collaborations with an intriguing range of clients: flame oz are an international troupe of fire performers who are looking at ways of incorporating fire resistant leather into their incredible theatre shows. drawn surface have worked on set designs in film and television and are currently producing a range of leather and hand printed canvas homewares with me. I am working with milliner Good Golly Miss Molly to create a range of stunning gents headwear for various celebrities. new projects on the horizon include a range of luxurious aprons and gentlemen's grooming products, and more recently, I have been commissioned to produce body-worn amp covers for a local music project.

I set up Leather Needle Thread in 2016 teaching handbag making workshops in Bristol, UK. Having guided over 300 people to make their own DIY leather bags (and the odd espadrille and leather sneaker!) from scratch I learnt what they found challenging, what they enjoyed and how they developed a sense of pride in their abilities. I have been a leatherworker for over 10 years and studied bag design and construction at the London College of Fashion before going on to work in the industry as a leatherworker and sample maker. The bag making kits were dreamed up because I wanted to give people a way to easily make covetable leather bags from beautiful materials, minimal tools and pared-back techniques in their own home.

Hi I'm Lauren, Designer, Maker and Founder of Lauren Holloway - Sustainable Bags & Accessories handmade in Bristol. My journey started in 2013 when I dug out a dusty vintage Singer sewing machine and taught myself how to make bags. I created my first collection from the bedroom of my flat, opened an Etsy shop and the rest is history! I love the whole process of designing and making - from coming up with the initial idea to handpicking each element from fabrics to hardware, focusing not only on functionality but on aesthetics and originality. My aim is to create beautiful products that are made with care and attention to detail with a focus on sustainable and ethical manufacturing. I have always been inspired by my travels around the globe, especially the beautiful patterns of Japan and the bold, colourful fabrics of Bali. My aim is to create sustainable, unique and practical bags that reflect your values and bring a little sunshine into your world! I really hope you enjoy using my products as much I enjoy designing and making them. You might have known me as Maybe Mabel in the past. In September 2021 I changed my business name, you can read about the change over on the blog post.

We are the largest UK supplier of Australian quilting, sewing patterns and fabrics. Let’s tell you a little bit about us. Both of us are passionate about Australian quilting, sewing patterns and Cottage Garden hand dyed embroidery threads. We have over 1000 patchwork, quilting and sewing patterns in stock and our range is still growing! We love that some of the Australian quilt and sewing pattern designers also design fabric too. A few of the Australian designers whose patterns we stock include Lynette Anderson Anni Downs of Hatched and Patched, Gail Pan, Fig ‘n’ Berry, Marg Low, Carolyn Murfitt of Freebird, One Day in May, Wendy Williams of Flying Fish, Jen Kingwell, Hares Nest and Natalie Bird of The Birdhouse. Our little quilt shop nestles in a pretty converted barn on a working farm in the village of Great Doddington, Northamptonshire. We also sell our patchwork and quilting supplies online. In addition to all Australian patchwork and sewing products we stock lots of other beautiful fabrics, embroidery threads, embroidery patterns and kits, fabric kits, notions, machine and hand threads and waddings for all your patchwork needs. The Eden Workshop is part of Right2Work and runs Craft Workshops & courses at The Appleby Hub and will travel! The Appleby Hub is run by Right2Work CIC, http://www.right2work.org.uk which is part of The Oaklea Trust http://www.oakleatrust.co.uk which strive to strengthen local communities – an example of their work being Project Edenside just round the corner from The Hub. The Hub is a former church and is now a thriving community centre with a busy café with a seed swap station, craft shop, second hand bookshop and a jigsaw library. Upstairs there are studios rented by artists and rooms for hire. The bustling market town of Appleby, boasts a vibrant high street full of independent shops and cafes, there’s good road links – we are just off A66 and 20mins from M6 jct 40. Along with the published list of Workshops that you can book onto we also offer private, bespoke ones just for you such as girly catch ups, team building, birthday/crafty hen parties, team building/bonding – these can be arranged at a time to suit and with food to suit too – anything from a crafty couple of hours get together with friends (starting from £25) to a day’s bag making or two day basket weaving or upholstery workshop. Refreshments & a tasty lunch cooked in our onsite wholefood café are included on the day courses (allergies & special dietary requirements catered for – please advise on booking) as are some, if not most of the materials. There is plenty of parking in the pay & display carpark adjacent to The Hub, the art studio & Bennett Room are accessed by a flight of stairs so please ask if you require any assistance, there is also a lift.
