This one hour CPD course covers the subject of assessments in IV sedation in dentistry. It is suitable for all members of the dental team and gives a broad overview and a framework in helping practitioners not only gauge the patients suitability for sedation, but also helps with assessing the difficulty of the upcoming sedation session. Preoperative sedation assessments (according to IACSD guidelines) are to be carried out by the sedation practitioner but with more practices using the services of visiting sedationists, it is useful to have this knowledge in order to screen the patients more effectively.  This course is meant as an initial theory starter for assessments, it is not designed to fully train the practitioner. This course satisfies the GDC outcomes A and C. Completion of the course is via a quiz and feedback and a certificate is available on successful completion. If you are in a team looking after a dental patient undergoing IV Sedation, then you are required to have ILS equivalent life support skills, including airway management and use of a defibrillator. The IACDS guidelines 2020 suggest that Management of Complications would be a useful part of that training so we have designed this course, suitable for all members of the dental team, to not only satisfy the guidelines but also build confidence in the team, to anticipate and treat any problems that may occur and give the patient an improved experience. This course is ideal for dentists and nurses who are new to IV sedation and have a visiting Sedationist in their practice. The course is in two parts. The first part covers Medical complications (90 mins CPD) and the second covers Non-Medical and behavioural aspects. (30 mins CPD). There is a quiz at the end of each in order to get your CPD certificate for each part. A hands-on introduction to various AAC devices for anyone with a personal or professional interest. This day introduces you to EATS and is a good foundation in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). You will learn different terminology used in the specialism; the difference between complexity of devices; key concepts related to implementing and making AAC work; how and when to refer to the specialist service and other essential knowledge needed to work in this area. The session is a good mix of theory and practical activities, and the day concludes with a generous interactive session for all to have a chance to have hands on experience with many devices and communication tools. The course is for anyone who wants information about AAC, whether you are a client, family member, paid carer, teacher, Speech & Language Therapist, other Allied Health Professional or anyone else who has an interest.
