On this silver clay jewellery taster workshop, you will create a pendant and/or pair of earrings from hallmark-quality silver with specialist, Edinburgh-based jeweller Anna Campbell.&nbsp; &nbsp; You will learn how to make jewellery out of a material called silver clay, which is made up of recycled silver particles, an organic binder and water. Silver clay requires with very little equipment so it&#39;s perfect for those wanting to learn a new skill they can easily do at home. &nbsp; You will be taken through all the steps to create your own piece ready for firing. The dried clay is fired with a butane torch to form it into silver (but a cr&egrave;me brul&eacute; torch will do the trick!). You&rsquo;ll then polish your silver jewellery ready to take home. &nbsp; This taster class is perfect for giving you an idea of the possibilities of this unique material. Silver clay is a material manufactured from 100% recycled silver, a plant-based organic binder and water. The silver is recycled from X-rays, the photographic industry, electronics, and the like. You don’t need a lot of tools and equipment to get started, and all pieces made on this workshop can be fired with a creme brûlée torch. 
You also take all the lovely products you have created home with you on the day, and workshop correspondence and notes are sent to you electronically.

On this, 3 hour or 5 hour introduction to macram&eacute; workshop with Edinburgh artist Lucy Wayman, you get the opportunity to work on longer projects.&nbsp;You can choose to create a plant or pot hanger, or stay on to work on a more larger macram&eacute; project, such as a double plant hanger, wall hanging or bag.&nbsp;
The workshop will start with the basic principles and techniques of macram&eacute;, allowing you to build your confidence by creating small projects such as a key ring, before moving on to designing and creating your plant hanger, bespoke wall hanging, or bag.
Once you feel more confident, you will learn how to calculate rope lengths and plan designs to create your chosen hand-crafted macram&eacute; project&nbsp;using 100% cotton rope and a selection of coloured twines. A helpful instruction manual will be provided to guide you through your project.If you opt for the plant hanger project your workshop will finish after 3 hours. The longer wall hanging and bag projects last for an extra 2 hours, i.e. a 5 hour workshop.
This three-in-one workshop gives extra time for people who feel confident with the basics to challenge themselves with more elaborate designs under Lucy&#39;s guidance.

Learn how to make your own macrame projects

Learn to screen print using gold metal leaf with local artist and printmaker Lou Davis.In this advanced level screen printing workshop you will&nbsp;learn to coat, expose, print and clean silk screens. You&rsquo;ll have the opportunity to create a two-layer print with one colour layer, and one where we apply metal leaf to your design. Although no previous knowledge is assumed, you will get more from this workshop if you have attended one of our&nbsp;beginner or intermediate level screen printing workshops, or have&nbsp;previous experience of screen printing.You&rsquo;ll learn to create designs for screen printing;&nbsp;transfer your designs to a screen and print onto printmaking paper; and&nbsp;how to register your prints so they print in the same place every time. You&rsquo;ll make an edition of up to ten prints and choose your favourite to frame, ready for your wall or to give as a gift.It&rsquo;s a good idea to think about what you&rsquo;d like to print before the workshop. Please bring some ideas for artwork with you, which we&rsquo;ll draw by hand onto tracing paper during the first part of the workshop. Learn to screen print using gold metal leaf with local artist and printmaker Lou Davis.
In this advanced level screen printing workshop you will learn to coat, expose, print and clean silk screens. You’ll have the opportunity to create a two-layer print with one colour layer, and one where we apply metal leaf to your design. Although no previous knowledge is assumed, you will get more from this workshop if you have attended one of our beginner or intermediate level screen printing workshops, or have previous experience of screen printing.
You’ll learn to create designs for screen printing; transfer your designs to a screen and print onto printmaking paper; and how to register your prints so they print in the same place every time. You’ll make an edition of up to ten prints and choose your favourite to frame, ready for your wall or to give as a gift.
It’s a good idea to think about what you’d like to print before the workshop. Please bring some ideas for artwork with you, which we’ll draw by hand onto tracing paper during the first part of the workshop. We will have inspiration on hand if you’re stuck!
It is possible to print from digital images but these must be prepared before the workshop, so if you’d like to take up this option, please contact us at least 7 days beforehand so we can properly advise you on what will print well. We will then print your ready prepared images onto screen printing acetate ready for the workshop. Digital images need to be printed in black so photos and line drawings can work well, but faint lines and subtle textures don’t transfer well. If you are sourcing imagery from the internet, please ensure you have the necessary rights to use it.

Applying a 'crazy paving' method you'll form your pieces into a creation to be proud of!

Introduction to mosaic making with Mossy Mosaic

If you have ever wanted to explore sketchbook journalling, this exclusive new workshop with the Edinburgh Sketcher is the perfect place to start.
On this 3.5 hour workshop, artist Mark Kirkham - known locally as the Edinburgh Sketcher - will show you how to capture what you see quickly and lift your sketches off the page using a little watercolour, and share why sketchbook journalling has become such an important part of his day-to-day life.
You will explore how words can be used as decoration, and add depth to your drawing. 
Sketching items from still life, you will learn how to choose what to include; and how to link your sketches together using colour and composition. 
Starting with a new sketchbook, Mark will help you overcome any fears you have of facing the blank page, and build your confidence with mark making. 
Using the tips and techniques you learn on the day, you will leave ready to continue your sketchbook journalling at home.

Minimum number no refund policy
To ensure we can always pay our creatives a fair fee, we require a minimum number of bookings for each workshop and for this reason bookings are non-refundable. Should we have to cancel due to low numbers, we will offer you the option to swap to an alternative date or workshop, or to request a refund.
We do our very best to avoid cancellations. Since we often get late bookings, we keep our workshops on sale for as long as possible. We realise that some of you travel from afar, so if you book a space and have not yet received an email confirming your workshop is going ahead and need to make plans for your trip, please get in touch before booking any travel or accommodation so we can update you on booking numbers. This is a chance to explore coloured pencil drawing for those who have never put pencil to paper. Also a wonderful course for those newer to drawing and wanting to learn the basic techniques.

‘Putting Pencil to Paper’ – A complete introduction to paper, pencils, sharpeners, erasers, setting up for still life and working from photographic reference. (45mins)

With almost nine hours of detailed instruction included, you can be assured of five artworks to be proud of at the end of this course and enough techniques to continue your new skill.
A set of notes, guidance on paper and pencils to use and an instructional video for each part of the course are included. All you need is a selection of Faber Castell Polychromos pencils, good quality white drawing paper and a few pencil case items.
