PART 1 - THEORY
Complete this part of your course online (eLearning Course) in the comfort of your own home or workplace.
Please allow approx. 5-7 hours to complete this part of your course. You do not need to complete Part 1 in a single "sitting", and can log on/off to complete as and when convenient to you.

Practical Creative Pattern & Garment Making Course for Teachers of GCSE D&T and Art & Design Textiles.
This course includes 7 ‘student friendly’ patterns that can adapt to make up to 18 different garments!
Discover how both your male & female GCSE students can design and make exciting & innovative garments that can be easily and independently assembled and link to their theme and artists.

This is a totally practical workshop! Learn how to adapt the patterns to create 18 garments and how your students can easily adapt the patterns to suit their theme and techniques. The patterns are student friendly, with no darts, zips or sizing. We will be looking at how to add a variety of techniques to the toiles, there will be lots of exemplar outcomes by theme and product. We will also be looking at the sustained focus/supervised time, schemes of work and much more. All templates and guides will be available to download. We will also be looking at fashion illustration linked to the patterns and fashion designers for inspiration.

What to expect on the day:
Learn and practice new and exciting pattern adaptation skills, that will enhance your teaching and enable students to design and make their own personal patterns, to create exciting garments that link to their theme and techniques.
How to use a variety of surface and constructed techniques to adapt the outcomes: a practical workshop.
Develop learning from KS3, creating independent, confident and enthusiastic learners at KS4/5.
Cut out and make at least one toile and learn how to do the others, using student friendly methods.
Learn how to adapt a skirt pattern to create a variety of exciting visual garments
Looking at practical solutions to create innovative fashion illustrations for GCSE outcomes that link students’ themes to your toiles
Looking at a variety of student exemplar outcomes by theme
Looking at the sustained focus/supervised time, creating independent and confident working students.

What is special about this workshop?
The Creative Pattern and Garment making face-to-face course is an experience that delivers textiles skills, knowledge and understanding. It is a great learning environment which allows you to gain new skills and techniques and develop classroom resources, showing how these can be incorporated in lesson plans and delivered in a fun, inspiring and engaging way. You can ask questions direct to the course developer/leader, practice new skills and network with other teachers.






Course Developer and Leader: NICKY SIMPSON
Your course leader is NICKY SIMPSON, a contemporary textiles artist, who has 12 years teaching experience, heading up Fashion & Textiles at a school in Kent. She has taught Art & Design Textiles at GCSE and A Level, Design and Technology/Textiles at GCSE & A Level and BTEC Level 3 Fashion. 
Her last set of grades were: A Level 100% A-A*; GCSE 70% A-A* (100% A*-B). She had a previous 22-year career as a print designer and colourist, creating print ranges for the international market. For the past 8 years Nicky has been a workshop developer and leader for the online and F2F courses for Textile and Art teachers on behalf of the Textile Skills Centre, including pattern development. Nicky has mentored many graduate trainees, and now mentors many fellow teachers through the TSC mentorship programme.

At DOBA Studio, we offer workshops that focus on the importance of recycling plastic waste and turning it into beautiful pieces of art. Our artistic workspace specializes in using a combination of three portable and easy-to-use machines - a shredder, injection machine, and extruder - to create unique and eye-catching pieces that raise awareness about environmental issues.
WHAT TO DO WITH THE PLASTIC THAT ALREADY EXISTS?
Our workshops are designed for all skill levels, from beginners to experienced artists. You'll get to work with recycled plastic waste collected from the local community, giving you a hands-on experience in upcycling. Not only will you have the opportunity to create something beautiful, but you'll also be making a positive impact on the planet by reducing plastic pollution. 
During the workshop, you'll get to use all three machines and leave with a handmade souvenir of your choice. Whether it's a keychain turtle, hexagonal coaster, or soap dish, the possibilities are endless. Creativity is the limit!

This class explores creative drawing, moving away from the perfectionist traditional teachings of life drawing. By trying out several different image-making techniques from continuous line drawing to pointillism the artists are encouraged to think outside the box and create more unusual imagery.
As described in TimeOut Magazine as 'It might look like a Full Moon party, but this evening of sketching is an experiment in light, colour, and texture. The models become &lsquo;living sculptures&rsquo; covered in UV lights and reactive body paints. Trippy.'
Neon Naked is a unique life drawing experience that specializes in creating unusual and creative designs by using vibrant and bold living sculptures. By combining UV light and reactive body paints with hand-crafted flamboyant accessories it's easy to get the creative juices flowing. 
The class starts with some quick and fun drawing exercises to get you warmed up. Then goes into longer drawing times with more exciting life images, experimenting with colour, light, and texture.
Art supplies are provided however please feel free to bring your own. With essentials such as pencil, paper and drawing boards but also you can use fluorescent glowing neon pastels and highlighters to make your art pop!
No experience needed. Help is always available if you get a challenging pose.

Lucy Brownridge is Editorial Director at Wide Eyed Editions and Frances Lincoln Children’s Books, and formerly Thames & Hudson where she helped to establish the Children’s list. She has developed and edited books for children with Alan Ahlberg, Quentin Blake, Mariajo Ilustrajo, Kristjana S Williams, Bob & Roberta Smith, Yuval Zommer and Joe Coelho among others. She is the author of The Cat Family series, and many non-fiction titles for children.

She is interested in the history of picture books and is always looking for innovative ways to use the book format. Her favourite books are funny, deceptively simple, thoughtfully written, distinctively illustrated and encourage a love for reading both words and pictures.

Lucy would like you to submit the following depending on whether you are a picture book writer / illustrator or both.

Each week on Zoom, you will meet with others who are dating and share the same desire to date in a healthy, informed way. Rachel will give a short talk, lead you in some reflective activities to improve your dating life, and answer your burning questions about dating. As you get to know each other, you'll learn from and support each other too. The course aims to enable you to enjoy healthier, intentional and more empowered dating experiences.

As symbolic, psychopathology is neither about facts nor ideas but about images, alchemical vessels that not only hold and contain psyche’s sufferings, but also cooks them. As embodied, psyche’s sufferings are inscribed in the flesh, etched as lines of character. To practice psychotherapy as an existential therapist situates therapist and patient in a dialogical field that is complex, symptomatic, symbolic, and embodied as a gestural field between them.”

Prof. Robert D. Romanyshyn, an Affiliate Member of The Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts, a Fellow of the Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture, and a Professor Emeritus of Clinical Psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute, was recently awarded the Distinguished Lifetime Contributions to Humanistic Psychology Award from the Society for Humanistic Psychology APA Division 32.
He has published eight books and numerous articles in psychology, philosophy, education, and literary journals. He is also a published poet and has written a one-act play about Frankenstein. In 2009 he created a multi-media DVD entitled Antarctica: Inner journeys in the Outer World, which offers a psychological reflection on the melting polar ice. In addition to online seminars and interviews, he has given lectures and workshops at universities and professional societies in the U.S., Europe, Australia, South Africa, Canada, and New Zealand.
Prof. Ernesto Spinelli was Chair of the Society for Existential Analysis between 1993 and 1999 and is a Life Member of the Society. His writings, lectures and seminars focus on the application of existential phenomenology to the arenas of therapy, supervision, psychology, and executive coaching. He is a Fellow of the British Psychological Society (BPS) as well as an APECS accredited executive coach and coaching supervisor. In 2000, he was the Recipient of BPS Division of Counselling Psychology Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Profession. And in 2019, Ernesto received the BPS Award for Distinguished Contribution to Practice. His most recent book, Practising Existential Therapy: The Relational World 2nd edition (Sage, 2015) has been widely praised as a major contribution to the advancement of existential theory and practice. Living up to the existential dictum that life is absurd, Ernesto is also the author of an on-going series of Private Eye novels.
