Come and spend some time in the Form & Fire studio and give pottery wheel throwing a go! In this 2 hour workshop you'll get hands-on tuition and learn the basics of throwing on the pottery wheel. The session is led by experienced potter, Ruth, who will give you her advice and knowledge to help you get to grips with this fun and creative skill. During the session, you will see a throwing demonstration from Ruth and then you will be free to throw as many pots as you like in the remaining time. Usually, participants throw 2-3 pots during the workshop. From the pieces you have made you will then pick your favourite one and Ruth will trim, glaze and finish your pot in the following weeks. There are 3 studio glazes available to choose from to complete your masterpiece! What can I expect from this experience? An introduction to wheel throwing Hands-on tuition from an expert potter All materials and tools provided Access to your own wheel for the entire session Post-workshop firing, processing and handling for 1 piece each Any extra pieces can be processed for £10 each Drinks are provided Suitable for all people and all abilities Aged 14+ Under 18s must be accompanied by a participating adult Wheel throwing is a messy and wonderful way to unwind and let go! This workshop is open to anyone and everyone who wants to give it a try. This session is taught in an intimate group of 3 and makes a fun activity to come along and try with a friend or solo. Please note: This class will be in our first-floor studio space, unfortunately this space is only accessible via stairs. Please get in touch to discuss any access needs. For this session to go ahead there needs to be a minimum of 2 participants attending. If we need to reschedule for another session we aim to give a minimum of 7 days notice. Once the session has finished your pieces will need to be left to dry out before going through two separate kiln firings and a layer of shiny glaze. All of this processing will be done by Ruth and will take approx 6 weeks to complete. You will be contacted once your pieces are ready to collect. Suitable for participants aged 14+. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult who will also participate in the workshop.

Learn the core moves of Egyptian Bellydance, and put it together with a fun choreography to Egyptian pop. We will learn: Correct posture and alignment. Hip movements (figures of eight/mayas (vertical and horizontal), circles and omis, different types of shimmies, drops and accents, locks, twists etc) Undulations and belly accents. Arm and hand positions, paths and movements. Common turns and stepping patterns used in bellydance e.g. pas de bourre. No belly dance experience required, if you are an improver you can refine and "troubleshoot" your base technique here to improve your movement quality. Variations will be offered in class depending on your level. There is also the opportunity to perform the choreography in the group at an end-of-term show (£10 ticket fee)! All classes are streamed and recorded on zoom so you can catch up if you miss a class. Jessica has won Bellydance competitions in Italy and Switzerland, and travels to Cairo and festivals across the world to continue her dance training.
