About this Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT)  A decision to drill an exploration well with the objective to find a new oil or gas field must be based on sound assessment of the prospect risk and of the volumes. What is the chance that a well will find hydrocarbons, and how much could it be? Risk and volume assessments form the basis for decisions to drill a well or not, and as such form the link between subsurface evaluation and the business aspects of the petroleum industry. This Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) course explains how risks and volumes can be assessed in a realistic manner, based on a sound understanding of the geological details of the prospect as well as its regional geological setting and current play understanding. Participants of this VILT course will receive a softcopy of Risk and Volume Assessment Handbook which explains the concepts that are associated with probabilistic Risk & Volume (R & V) Assessment and contains many practical recommendations on how to translate geological understanding into meaningful inputs for probabilistic R &V assessments. The book is fully compatible with any probabilistic R & V tool in the industry. Training Objectives By the end of this VILT course, participants will be able to understand: The fundamentals of risk and volumes assessment; translating geological understanding into reasonable numbers and ranges. The difference between risk and uncertainty. Fundamentals of statistics; including explanation of distribution curves, understanding of expectation curves, do's and don'ts for adding risked volumes, and Bayes theorem. Uncertainty of trap, reservoir, seal and charge, illustrated by examples. Guidelines and exercises for estimating risks realistically and consistently. Calculating volume ranges for prospects and for portfolios of prospects; how to add prospect volumes for a correct representation of prospect portfolios. Incorporation of geophysical evidence (DHIs) in a realistic risk assessment. Target Audience This VILT course has been designed in the first place for geoscientists working in exploration, for prospect portfolio analysts and for their direct supervisors. It will also benefit staff from disciplines working closely with exploration staff, such as reservoir engineers, petrophysicists and geophysicists. Course Level Intermediate Training Methods Learning, methods and tools The VILT course will be delivered online in 5 half-day sessions comprising 4 hours per day, with 2 breaks of 10 minutes per day. It is the intention to have at least 2 smaller exercises per day. Time will be reserved for recapitulation, questions and discussions. VILT will be conducted either via Zoom or Microsoft Teams. Presenting materials can easily be done on this platform. When participants need to ask a question, they can raise their hand, write notes or interrupt the Instructor by using their microphone. The presenter can switch to a screen where he/she can see all participants (also when each participant is sitting in another location e.g. at home). There is also a whiteboard functionality that can be used as one would use a flip chart. Exercises will be done on an online platform which provides each participant with a private work area that can be accessed by the Instructor to discuss the exercise in a similar manner as in a classroom course. Each topic is introduced by a lecture, and learning is re-enforced by practical exercises and discussions. Handout material in electronic format will be provided. Trainer Dr. Jan de Jager has a PhD in Geology from the University of Utrecht. He joined Shell in 1979 as an exploration geologist, and worked in several locations around the world such as Netherlands, Gabon, USA, Australia, Argentina, and Malaysia in technical and management positions. During the last 10 years of his career, he was responsible for the quality assurance of Shell's exploration prospects in many parts of the world and for upgrading and replenishing Shell's global exploration portfolio. During this period, he had also developed extensive expertise in Prospect Risk and Volume assessments for which he ran successful internal training programmes. Following his retirement from Shell in 2010, Dr Jan de Jager took on a position as part-time professor at the University of Amsterdam and also serves as a consultant exploration advisor for various E&P companies. Learn how to make classic and contemporary mosaics on this six-day residential mosaic workshop in Greece using local stone and marble. The Lagou Raxi Hotel in the mountains of Pelion provides a wonderful backdrop for this relaxing, informative holiday in an unspoilt area of Greece. June 25 – July 2, 2022 Saturday Arrival of participants. Experienced students will meet in the studio to prepare their materials and substrates and to finalise their designs. Meet & Greet for the whole group. Short Introduction to the history of Ancient Greek and Roman mosaics and an overview of contemporary mosaics. Welcome Dinner at the hotel. Sunday Getting started. Discussion of the commonly used approaches to mosaic making with an overview of mosaic tools, materials and techniques. A look at the ‘classic’ mosaic rules and the fundamental skills needed to make a direct method mosaic including how to cut and lay the tesserae and design principles. Students work on a practice coaster. All students finalise their main design and prepare their substrates. Students start work on a 30cm by 30cm mosaic on Jackoboard which is suitable for indoor or outdoor hanging. Afternoon: visit to one of Pelion’s remote and beautiful beaches and Byzantine mosaic relics. Monday Students continue with their own pieces with Helen’s support and direction. Tuesday Students continue with their own pieces with Helen’s support and direction. Afternoon: As before and a PowerPoint presentation on the art of Andamento – the visual flow of the mosaic. Wednesday Students work at different paces so those who are ready may already have started on their second or even third piece. The other techniques covered during the week are mosaics on mesh and using found materials such as pebbles and shells with tile adhesive. Afternoon: As before and a PowerPoint presentation on Contemporary Mosaics. Thursday Students continue with their own pieces. Those who are ready will seal and grout their main mosaics. Demonstration of how to grout. Demonstration of how to apply a mesh mosaic to a fixed surface using tile adhesive. Afternoon: Excursion to visit some Pelion monasteries or other sites of interest. Friday All students finish their main piece and/or their extra mosaics and prepare for an informal exhibition of the week’s work in the studio. Exhibition, group photo and farewell dinner. Saturday Departure of participants, or a rest over the weekend*. * There is a possibility to continue using the studio, tools and materials unsupervised over the weekend for a small extra charge. She was previously an agent at The Good Literary Agency, where she began building her list of authors. Recent successes include a ‘significant’ 6-figure pre-empt for Busayo Matuluko’s YA debut ‘Til Death, a 5-way auction for Quiet Storm by Kimberly Whittam and the shortlisting of Ebinehita Iyere’s Girlhood, Unfiltered at the 2023 British Book Awards. At ANA, Gyamfia is focusing on on developing the agency’s list of children’s authors, while also representing a bespoke list of commercial adult fiction and narrative non-fiction. In the Children’s space, Gyamfia would love to find contemporary stories that are full of heart and joy-driven books across all genres (think Clare Weze, Kimberly Whittam and Elle McNicoll). Funny middle-grade and YA horror are currently at the top of her list and she is also keen to read more teen projects (think Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging and Glow Up Lara Bloom) this year. She is very interested in finding a graphic novel or illustrated project for either MG or YA readers. In the older fiction space, Gyamfia enjoys well-plotted, fast-paced narratives with authentic characters who lodge themselves in her mind long after she’s finished reading (think Sadie, Verity and Girl A). She’s open to a broad range of genres, but would be particularly keen to see romantasy, cosy crime, contemporary romance and tightly plotted domestic noir. Please note that Gyamfia doesn’t consider literary fiction and, in the commercial space, she is not hugely interested in very high fantasy, trauma-focused stories or particularly gruesome horror.In the non-fiction space, she would be happy to consider commercial narrative non-fiction and cultural history projects (think Brit(ish), It’s Not That Radical and Everything I Know About Love). She is very open when it comes to Children’s non-fiction but would be particularly interested to consider unique cookbooks aimed at young chefs, books exploring mental health/wellness and projects that bring the experiences of marginalised children to the forefront. Gyamfia would like you to submit a covering letter, 1 page synopsis and the opening three chapters (max 5,000 words). For picture books please send two texts and a covering letter. For non-fiction please supply a cover letter and proposal with up to 5,000 words of your sample text. Please send EITHER picture books OR another genre, not both in one submission. Please wear suitable cloths or bring aprons / overalls - Its often your feet that get caught out . . . gloves will be provided (latex free).  You are welcome to bring your own paints, however I recommend only Amsterdam or Pebeo brands for this style of art.  The studio can be chilly, so layers are recommended!
