A high-impact programme designed to be fun and to get people fully involved. The first-class, jargon-free content is based on what people need to know in practice, not off-putting legal language. This introductory course covers: Introducing Working Safely: Accidents can happen to anyone. The realities of the human suffering behind the statistics. The importance of personal responsibility. Defining hazard and risk: Focusing on the six broad hazard groups, participants are asked to think about the hazards and risks they come across in their own work. 'Risk assessment' demystified. Identifying common hazards: All the main issues - aggression and violence, asbestos, bullying, chemicals and harmful substances, computer workstations, confined spaces, drugs and alcohol, electricity, fire, getting in and out, height, housekeeping, lighting, manual handling, noise, personal hygiene, plant and machinery, slips and trips, stress, temperature, vehicles and transport, and welfare facilities. Improving safety performance: Bridging the gap between management and workforce, encouraging participants to play their part. Also covered: contract work, inspections, safe systems and permits, protective equipment, signage, emergency procedures, reporting and health checks.

This course is suitable for everybody although it has been specifically designed to help employers to provide a positive mental health culture within their organisation. Learners will gain a comprehensive knowledge of a range of the most common mental health conditions and the skills of how to act.

Developing a network of MHFA Champions is a key step in creating a mentally healthy workplace. The MHFA Champion one-day course will give you all the skills you need to be an MHFA Champion. This course includes all the content of the 1 day First Aid for Mental Health, and in addition provides insight into a wider range of mental health conditions. It explores the range of therapies and professional support an individual may be offered. The course is suitable for all within a workplace although is aimed at those who hold a supervisory/managerial level position and/or are responsible for implementing a positive mental health culture for First Aid for Mental Health within an organisation.

Supervising first aid for mental health: What will you learn? You’ll be surprised by how much you enjoy this 2-day course. I always make sure the learning process is engaging, interactive and stimulating — so you won’t be bored. Most importantly, the training course gives you a fascinating insight into a subject that’s often brushed under the carpet. This is a safe space to speak. Here’s the course content Defining mental health, and understanding the stigma surrounding it Factors which affect mental health Roles and responsibilities of a first aider Outline of advice — What to say to someone with a suspected mental health condition Listening without judgement Knowing when to contact the emergency services Identifying signs of stress, and how stress can be managed Alcohol and drug abuse — Its effects, and the consequences for someone’s work and personal life Applying a first aid action plan How to implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace Identifying signs and symptoms of depression, suicide, psychosis, anxiety, self-harm, eating disorders, PTSD, personality disorders, bipolar and schizophrenia Do bear in mind, this course can’t teach you how to diagnose and treat a mental health condition. That’s the responsibility of a healthcare professional. However, you’ll know where to signpost an individual who needs professional help. You’ll leave with the knowledge and confidence to approach, reassure and support someone when they need it most. Group sessions (min 6 people, max 16): £245 per person

This 6-hour qualification provides learners with the knowledge to recognise a range of mental health conditions, how to start a supportive conversation and when and how to signpost a person to seek appropriate professional help.

Or do you just think it's time to change? This session will challenge the way you think about drink. It's not about what someone else thinks you ought to drink - it's about your own attitude to it. Take away a completely fresh way of thinking about drinking. Get some insights into 'how come' you drink what you do. Find out what you can easily do to drink less. During the session you will have the opportunity to take a fresh look at: Your drinking habits - casual/social drinking, habitual drinking, binge drinking 'How come I do this'? How we think about habits 'How could I change my drinking'?
