This one-day course introduces the field of user experience and provides an excellent entry point to our other specialised training courses. UX processes and practices have become a central component of product design, service design and web design.

Universal Design for Learning and Accessibility

An introduction to gel printing with photographs using an image transfer process with local artist Morven Ferguson. This workshop will explore how to transfer a photograph onto a gel plate to make a series of unique prints. You will learn how to pull a print, and layer colours. Inspiration for this workshop will come from a range of images of Scottish landscapes and natural forms which will be provided for you to use. You will have the opportunity to make a series of up to three prints on paper, to display as a triptych which can be mounted at the end of the workshop. There will also be the option to purchase a frame for your work. More information The Arienas Collective workshops, courses and events are run from a welcoming and supportive environment within a Georgian mews home in Edinburgh’s City Centre New Town. We invite you to join us, leave any day-to-day worries behind and immerse yourself in being creative. Spaces on our workshops and courses are limited so that our creative team of artists and makers can offer you the hands-on help and support you need to make the most of your time with us. Our taster and introductory workshops focus on teaching creative skills and methods you can continue practising at home, using affordable materials and equipment. Where more expensive equipment is required we will mention this in the workshop description. All the equipment and materials you need are included in the price, unless stated otherwise. Light refreshments from local suppliers are provided. On full day workshops you are welcome to bring your own lunch to eat inside or out. There is also a wide range of independent sit-in or takeaway delis, cafés, and restaurants, plus a range of supermarkets all within a 5-10 minute walk. Accessibility The workshop space is on the first-floor of our Georgian mews home and unfortunately we do not have lift access. Blue badge holders can park outside our front door on the single yellow line by arrangement. Allergies The workshop space is in our open plan living space and is not nut free. Please let us know about any skin or food allergies before booking. We offer a dairy-free milk and gluten free snack alternative. Minimum number no refund policy To ensure we can always pay our creatives a fair fee, we require a minimum number of bookings for each workshop and for this reason bookings are non-refundable. Should we have to cancel due to low numbers, we will offer you the option to swap to an alternative date or workshop, or to request a refund. We do our very best to avoid cancellations. Since we often get late bookings, we keep our workshops on sale for as long as possible. We realise that some of you travel from afar, so if you book a space and have not yet received an email confirming your workshop is going ahead and need to make plans for your trip, please get in touch before booking any travel or accommodation so we can update you on booking numbers. The course covers research design principles and all main quantitative evaluation methods: randomised experiments, instrumental variables, sharp and fuzzy regression discontinuity designs, regression methods, matching methods and longitudinal methods (before-after, difference-in-differences and synthetic controls).

Duration 0.75 Days 4.5 CPD hours This course is intended for Making Microsoft Word documents accessible. Overview Please refer to Overview. During this course students will interact with a variety of Word documents and review components that would render the document inaccessible. Students will enable the Accessibility Checker and the Speak feature and progress through the processes and procedures to meet the AODA mandate. Students will ultimately create an accessible set of styles and use those styles within the document. Adding the Accessibility Checker and the Speak feature Discussions will follow as to the limitations of the checker When the checker won?t run Document Metadata Students will review where and why to add metadata to a Word Document Setting the application language and setting the document language Setting the document title Adding the Author and subject metadata fields Creating Accessible Paragraphs and Columns Students will see the perils of incorrect use of hard returns and text boxes within a document Exercises will have students work with paragraph formatting and column formatting for accessibility Creating Accessible Tables Students will interact with tables that are poorly designed and restricted them to still maintain content but that are now accessible Discussions will surround, changes to how tables are handled when sending to PDF Accessible Imagery Students will discuss the need to images with a document The Alternate text feature will be used and the rationale for adding specific types of descriptions Students will see and understand the rationale for ?in-line- imagery Styles for Navigation Students will use and modify the built-in styles feature of Microsoft Word and create a table of contents Students will see with the use of the navigation pane, how styles impact accessibility Students will also understand the importance of proper styles nesting Headers, Footers and Footnotes Students will discuss and then implement accessible headers and footers Students will discuss footnotes and alternative methods to provide footnotes Verifying Reading Order Students will ?listen? to their documents using the Speak feature Students will enable the selection pane as an accessibility tools and discuss its limitations Creating an Accessible Style Template Students will create several accessible styles including headings and paragraphs Students will save the style within a template Additional course details: Nexus Humans Accessible Documents training program is a workshop that presents an invigorating mix of sessions, lessons, and masterclasses meticulously crafted to propel your learning expedition forward.
