What/Who is this Training Room for?
This online Training Room is aimed at Textile and Art teachers who are either new to teaching GCSE/A Level or those who want to add to their resources, learning easy to teach textiles skills and techniques and create a sketchbook resource that can be used in the classroom by students. The techniques will be linked to relevant artists and designers and we will show a creative process from developed to refined ideas.
This Training Room is the 1st in a series for Fabric Manipulation Skills and covers Tucks, English & American Smocking techniques, as examples to show design development to final outcome. Each Course takes you through selecting a theme; How to then source primary and gives suggestions for relevant artist/designers to base the techniques on. It then takes you through developing initial ideas and learning first how to do and then further refine the techniques.

Your curator is NICKY SIMPSON, a contemporary textiles artist, who has 12 years teaching experience, heading up Fashion & Textiles at Hillview School in Kent and a previous 22 year career as a print designer in the heart of London. She has also mentored many graduate trainees, taken workshops at the Knitting & Stitching show, volunteers as an art therapist and for the past 5 years, has been a workshop developer and leader for Textile and Art teachers on behalf of the Textile Skills Academy.

WHAT THE COURSE IS ABOUT:
This is a comprehensive course on mark making for Textiles developed by textile artist NICKY SIMPSON. This course works through a series of themes, and links the mark making techniques to these themes as well as how to create and use primary. 
There are several video tutorials for each theme as well as step-by-step guides, exemplar student sketchbooks and artists that aid in the mark making process. Nicky’s aim is show how easily accessible mark making can be for every level of student and how it can be delivered in a fun and engaging way, creating independent learners.




WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR:
This course is aimed at anyone interested in learning a large variety of exciting and fun textile mark making skills. These are methods that can be easily accessed by all students.

YOUR COURSE DEVELOPER: 
This course has been developed by NICKY SIMPSON who has developed many face-to-face and online courses, as well as delivering TSC workshops in schools.

NICKY SIMPSON  BA(Hons) Textiles Design: Specialising in print.

Nicky is a contemporary textiles artist, who has 12 years teaching experience, heading up Fashion & Textiles at a School in Kent. She has taught many different specifications from Art & Design Textiles at GCSE and A Level, Design and Technology at GCSE and A Level and BTEC Level 3 Fashion. Her last set of grades were: A Level 100% A-A*; GCSE 70% A-A* (100% A*-B). She has also taught Graphics, Food and Art at KS3.
Nicky previously enjoyed a successful career as a senior director of a fashion print agency in the heart of London. She designed original prints as well as creating and selling seasonal fashion print collections for the international market. 
Since 2016 Nicky has been a textile consultant, focusing on developing and leading the delivery of both online and face-to-face workshops for the Textile Skills Centre, including pattern development. Nicky has mentored many graduate trainees and is a volunteer mentor through the TSC mentorship programme.
She has delivered workshops at the Festival of Quilts, Knitting & Stitching show, The Stitch Festival and National trust. Nicky volunteers as an art therapist in her spare time. Her own work is creating arts and craft mostly with a heat press, featuring both machine and hand embroidery. Much of her work incorporates the flora found naturally in our beautiful English countryside.

After a music degree and time as an army musician, Liv worked &nbsp;for various charities, including the Alzheimer&rsquo;s Society, developing &nbsp;projects mainly based around peer support and groupwork. &nbsp;Liv then completed the renowned Certificate in Music Workshop Skills at &nbsp;Goldsmith&rsquo;s College, and has been self-employed as a community musician, &nbsp;working with different groups. The main areas she specialises in are &nbsp;Early Years, Community Choirs and people with dementia. She works with &nbsp;various organisations, including Westminster Arts, Age Exchange and &nbsp;Alzheimer&rsquo;s Society delivering music, movement, reminiscence and &nbsp;cross-arts projects. She is also a trainer in these areas and has run &nbsp;training sessions for community musicians and care workers in how to &nbsp;incorporate these techniques into their work. Liv plays the cello, &nbsp;highland bagpipes and saxophone, and dabbles in ukulele and kantele! In &nbsp;her spare time, she enjoys Circle Dancing and learning Appalachian Clog &nbsp;Dancing. Circle dancing developed from traditional folk dance from around the world. Music and dances from the circle dance repertoire have been simplified and adapted for both seated and standing dance. The touch, holding, swaying, and simple repetitive movements allow the participant to feel safe within the circle and provides an opportunity for expression and creativity. The dance also provides an enjoyable form of exercise and movement.
The aim and scope of the Circle Dance
Circle Dance training aims to enable and skill up staff to provide their own movement and music sessions with their service users. Staff have welcomed an activity in which people with moderate/medium stage dementia can engage. It offers the opportunity for a shared activity with partners, relatives and carers. It can be used in residential and day settings, assessment units, NHS and voluntary organisation groups with older people, people with learning disability, mental health conditions, and physical disabilities. It can be offered at care home social events, and Alzheimer's Cafes.
How has Circle Dancing been adapted for people with dementia?
(including learning disability, older people with physical disabilities & mental health conditions)
Dance and movement have been successfully included in care provision activities since the 1940s. There is a body of research evidencing the promotion of well-being through making use of rhythm, touch and movement; moreover several practitioners/researchers have evidenced the benefits of using folk music with older people and people with dementia.
From 1996-2002, Dorothy Jerrome provided regular sessions in Brighton, which were evaluated and written up in dementia journals, and in a book on therapeutic dance. Building on Dorothy’s work, Cynthia Heymanson and Kath Kershaw developed and adapted Circle Dance for people living with dementia and other health issues by training staff in care settings. Cynthia and Kath worked closely together to provide training across the UK to empower staff so they can feel confident to provide simple seated and standing dance and enjoy music and song.
The management and delivery of Circle Dance, established by Kath and Cynthia, was transfer to Dementia Pathfinders in October 2013 and we have delivered many successful training sessions since then.

This one-day course will introduce participants to the use of Circle Dance and provide them with the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver circle dance sessions in their own settings.
The course is suitable for practitioners who work with people with dementia in group settings, such as care staff, activity coordinators, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, community dance practitioners, community musicians, exercise instructors, day centre workers and volunteers who are based in settings with people with dementia.

Training Facilitator: Liv McLennan
Liv has had a passion for working for people with dementia since her teens, when her grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s-type dementia. After a music degree and time as an army musician, Liv worked for various charities, including the Alzheimer’s Society, developing projects mainly based around peer support and groupwork. Liv then completed the renowned Certificate in Music Workshop Skills at Goldsmith’s College, and has been self-employed as a community musician, working with different groups. The main areas she specialises in are Early Years, Community Choirs and people with dementia. She works with various organisations, including Westminster Arts, Age Exchange and Alzheimer’s Society delivering music, movement, reminiscence and cross-arts projects. She is also a trainer in these areas and has run training sessions for community musicians and care workers in how to incorporate these techniques into their work. Liv plays the cello, highland bagpipes and saxophone, and dabbles in ukulele and kantele! In her spare time, she enjoys Circle Dancing and learning Appalachian Clog Dancing. She is also on the board of trustees for Sound Sense, the Professional Association for Community Musicians.

She has also mentored many graduate trainees, taken workshops at the Knitting & Stitching show, volunteers as an art therapist and for the past 5 years, has been a workshop developer and leader for Textile and Art teachers on behalf of the Textile Skills Academy.

Your curator is NICKY SIMPSON, a contemporary textiles artist, who has 12 years teaching experience, heading up Fashion & Textiles at Hillview School in Kent and a previous 22 year career as a print designer in the heart of London. She has also mentored many graduate trainees, taken workshops at the Knitting & Stitching show, volunteers as an art therapist and for the past 5 years, has been a workshop developer and leader for Textile and Art teachers on behalf of the Textile Skills Academy.

What/Who is this Training Room for?
This online Training Room is aimed at Textile and Art teachers who are either new to teaching GCSE/A Level or those who want to add to their resources, learning easy to teach textiles skills and techniques and create a sketchbook resource that can be used in the classroom by students. The techniques will be linked to relevant artists and designers and we will show a creative process from developed to refined ideas.
This Training Room is the 5th in a series for Constructed Textiles Skills and covers shadowfolds, 
Paper & Fabric Manipulation techniques, as examples to show design development to final outcome.  
Each Course takes you through selecting a theme; How to then source primary and gives suggestions for relevant artist/designers to base the techniques on. It then takes you through developing initial ideas and learning first how to do and then further refine the techniques.

Our CITB Online - Site Supervisors’ Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) Refresher course is designed to give attendees a broad reminder of their responsibilities for health and safety on construction sites. Approved and endorsed by the United Kingdom Contractors Group, the SSSTS refresher course is a must for anyone who occupies a supervisory role on UKCG sites and wants to brush up on their knowledge of their legal responsibilities and the latest construction industry regulations.
The SSSTS Refresher course has been created to provide existing supervisors, or those who are just entering into a supervisory role, with in-depth knowledge of health and safety legislation and procedures. If a candidate completed a full SSSTS training course up to 5 years ago, they will be required to attend a refresher programme.
Prerequisites
SSSTS certificates are of course valid for up to 5 years, but due to the ever-changing nature of the industry, it is recommended that staff stay up to date by enrolling on a refresher course long before the qualification expires.

Site Supervisor Training Scheme (SSSTS) Refresher

This one-day course is a must for anyone considering or already working within a construction or civil engineering environment. This course provides Health and Safety awareness and is endorsed by Build UK as a standard training for all operatives on site.
Aims
To give a clear understanding of Regulations & Legislation that applies to construction work and is an ideal refresher for any operative that has previously completed training in Health & Safety.

LOOKING FOR: ADULT FICTION, NON-FICTION

Rachel Neely began her publishing career in 2016 at HarperCollins, before moving to Hachette where she worked as an editor for the next six years, specialising in crime and thrillers along with book club novels and contemporary fiction, most recently as a Commissioning Editor at Orion. 

Rachel joined Mushens Entertainment at the start of 2022 as an Associate Agent, assisting Juliet Mushens with her client list, including multiple Sunday Times and New York Times bestselling authors. Simultaneously she began signing her own clients. In August 2023 she was promoted to Literary Agent and in 2024 achieved Bookseller Rising Star status.

She would love to see a commercial locked-room thriller in the vein of The Midnight Feast, The White Lotus or with shades of Succession; novels about cults such as The Girls; a voice-led serial-killer thriller reminiscent of How to Kill Your Family; compelling dark academia to rival The Secret History; a high-concept but tragic love story that will make her ugly cry in the vein of The Time Traveller’s Wife or One Day; and anything that has an outsider trying to break into the world of the privileged and morally bankrupt.
Besides those above, her favourite novels include The List, The Talented Mr Ripley, The Lovely Bones, Other People’s Clothes, The It Girl, The Girl Before, Notes on an Execution, My Dark Vanessa and My Sister the Serial Killer.

Medication Awareness training is mandatory for all staff who are prompting or assisting clients to take their medications.
About this event
Medication Awareness training is for staff who have had never taken part in Medication training before or staff returning to the profession.
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
Understand medication types and uses
Learn legal and ethical responsibilities
Master medication administration procedures
Know proper storage and disposal methods
Recognize and respond to adverse effects
Develop communication and record-keeping skills
Apply person-centred approaches
Conduct risk assessments.

Before you book:
Please do not send along staff who have just worked a nightshift or who will be visiting clients immediately before or immediately after a training session. People arriving tired, stressed or late cannot gain the most benefit from a training course. We reserve the right to turn away individuals too exhausted to focus on the training or staff who turn up late for a course and disturb the flow of the proceedings.
All CH Care Training courses are fully inclusive, but if you have any concerns about a member of staff's ability to participate because of physical, sensory or learning differences then please let us know in confidence in advance, so that we may make the appropriate adjustments.

Cancellations
CH Care Training operates a sliding scale of cancellation; If you cancel more than two weeks before the start date of a course, you can ask for a full refund, to change the names of the delegates being sent along, or to transfer a delegate to another training date. If you give less than two weeks but more than one week's notice of cancellation, 50 percent of the booking can be refunded. If you cancel less than a week from the training delivery date we wont be able to refund. There are no refunds for staff who do not turn up on the day of the training course.
If CH Care Training needs to change the date or cancel a course for any reason we will give you the maximum notice we can. In exceptional circumstances we may cancel a course due to extreme weather or circumstances at the training venue. You will be offered a full refund or the opportunity to transfer your booking to an alternative date.

Arriving at the Venue
The course will start promptly so please arrive at least 15 minutes before the start time of the training to allow plenty of time to use the toilet, and be seated ready for the start of the course.
You can call Training direct on 0798 999 5180 if you are struggling to arrive on time. Please note that the meeting will be locked to late arrivals 10 minutes after the actual course starts.
When you arrive please come into Reception and a member of staff will come to book you in prior to directing you to the training room. This room is located on the ground floor and is wheelchair accessible.

As this is a working environment please ensure you allow the necessary time and focus to get the best from the material being presented. Please bring pen and paper to make notes during the course. Our training sessions are fun and very interactive. We will encourage plenty of comments, points of view and the sharing of lived experiences. Delegates should not share any sensitive information about a client or organisation. Our session agreement asks delegates to maintain confidentiality about individuals and organisations and to respect the views of others on the course.
All CH Care Training courses are inclusive, but if you have any concerns about your ability to participate, such as sensory or learning differences then please let the Trainer know in confidence before the start of a course, so that they may make the appropriate adjustments.
If the course contains practical elements such as Moving & Handling or First Aid, then please wear appropriate clothing to take part in these activities. Gyamfia Osei joined ANA in 2023 as a Literary Agent in the UK department. She was previously an agent at The Good Literary Agency, where she began building her list of authors. Recent successes include a ‘significant’ 6-figure pre-empt for Busayo Matuluko’s YA debut ‘Til Death, a 5-way auction for Quiet Storm by Kimberly Whittam and the shortlisting of Ebinehita Iyere’s Girlhood, Unfiltered at the 2023 British Book Awards. The centrifuge - overview. Safe operation and use. Managing a centrifuge breakage or spillage.

Equipment preparation for blood samples that are collected at
0 degrees, 37 degrees C and other non-standard conditions.

2 - Syringe and Needle (open system): Correct use and applications.
3 - Monovette (open and closed systems):
Using the Monovette system in aspiration mode - correct use and applications.
Using the Monovette system in evacuated mode - correct use and applications.
4 - IR Vein Detector:
Demonstration of the IR vein detector for assisting in detection of difficult veins.
5 - Veins in back of hand:
Detecting suitable veins in the back of the hand.
6 - POC testing:
Point of Care Testing - use of glucose meter to demonstrate a typical POC test procedure. Correct use and overview of other POC test devices.
7 - Using lancets (finger collection)
We look at the correct use of lancets for POC testing and whole blood micro-collection.
8 - Using lancets (heel collection)
We look at the correct use of lancets for neonatal blood spot tests (Guthrie Test).
9 - Capillary collection
Using glass capillary tubes for micro-collection. Correct use and handling.
10 - Microtube collection
Correct use of BD Microtainers (and similar micro-collection bottles) - collection and handling.
