❓ CAN MOTORCYCLE TRAINING TRANSFER TO DISTANCE LEARNING?
Since motorcycling is a very practical activity, I've been asked questions about how realistic it is to deliver a course of online learning and whether it can work. It's good to ask that question. But the answer is ABSOLUTELY YES! 
E-learning is an accepted way of delivering skills in many fields, and has been for many years. It should be obvious that any theory content CAN be delivered remotely but because motorcycling is seen as a 'hands-on' skill, it's easy to under-estimate just how much of what we learn about riding when we're not actually ON the bike. If you have ever read an article on better riding in a book or a magazine, watched a YouTube video or a DVD, or even followed my Facebook page online then you have taken advantage of distance learning. If you have ever thought: "that's a good idea, I'll use that in my riding", then you have learned from it too!

What may not be so obvious is that we CAN learn practical skills too so each section of the course has some simple-to-try practical exercises which allow you to go out and directly try out the theory, just like my paperback DIY guide to better riding 'Survival SKILLS'. And that's had a lot of positive feedback. And if that's not enough, I'll let one of the people who took the earlier version of this course whilst recovering from a crash tell you what they found:

After the free Introduction Session, the course is in 8 modules. You'll need to set aside approximately 4 to 5 hours per module to complete the assignments. 
Each new module will be delivered to you on completion of the previous module. Ideally, you'll complete one module per week. If you can't finish the assignments to complete the module in time, don't worry - the next module will simply be held over to the following week.

Using the Monovette system in aspiration mode - correct use and applications.
Using the Monovette system in evacuated mode - correct use and applications.
4 - IR Vein Detector:
Demonstration of the IR vein detector for assisting in detection of difficult veins.
5 - Veins in back of hand:
Detecting suitable veins in the back of the hand.
6 - POC testing:
Point of Care Testing - use of glucose meter to demonstrate a typical POC test procedure. Correct use and overview of other POC test devices.
7 - Using lancets (finger collection)
We look at the correct use of lancets for POC testing and whole blood micro-collection.
8 - Using lancets (heel collection)
We look at the correct use of lancets for neonatal blood spot tests (Guthrie Test).
9 - Capillary collection
Using glass capillary tubes for micro-collection. Correct use and handling.

To give a clear understanding of health, safety, welfare, and environmental legislation that affects your supervisory role. To help you fulfil your responsibilities regarding health, safety, welfare, and the environment. To help you implement new guidance and industry best practice affected by changes.
Course Content
• Health and safety law and how it will apply to supervisors.
• Your supervisory responsibilities in controlling site safety.
• Risk assessments and the need for method statements.
• Effective site inductions, toolbox talks and method statement briefings.
• Monitoring site activities effectively.
• Timely intervention when bad practice is identified.
Prerequisites
This course is for you if you are considering, or already have, supervisory responsibilities.
Assessment
At the end of this course, all delegates will have a clear understanding of controlling health and safety on site from a supervisor’s role.
Certificate
This certification for this course is valid for 5 years and is endorsed by Build UK as a standard training for all supervisors.
To remain certified in this area, you will need to take a refresher course before the expiry date on your certificate, otherwise the full course will need to be retaken.
Instructions
Please note all Site Supervisor Training courses with the venue “Remote Learning” will be delivered by a tutor over a video call.
This training will be delivered and assessed in English language; therefore, a good standard is required to complete the course.
