People seek counselling to aid them through difficult periods of their lives. They may face difficulties in their relationships, or feel isolated or alone. Some people may have deep rooted psychological issues or be struggling with bereavement.
Counselling involves a series of sessions with a qualified therapist, where the client has a safe space to talk openly about their experiences and the therapist will listen, empathise and encourage the client.
This qualification is recognised by BACP https://www.bacp.co.uk/ and NCS https://nationalcounsellingsociety.org/.
A Certificate in Counselling Skills will give you the basics you will need to understand the role of a therapist. It will teach you the theory behind counselling and will be the first step to persuing a career in counselling.
The course includes 3 mandatory units covering all main areas relevant to the study of initial counselling skills:

Our course will provide you with an introduction to counselling skills. You will learn about the counselling profession, the basic theories underpinning counselling skills as well as developing your practical counselling skills.
This course will be assessed both internally and externally. There are 4 internal assessments marked by your tutor consisting of a written assignment of 1500 words, a role-play in which you will be assessed in three roles: counsellor, client & observer, and a professional discussion to demonstrate your understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding.
You will also be required to keep a weekly journal to develop your reflective practice skills. An external examination will take place in January or June. We further recommend that you undertake at least 5 hours of personal counselling.
