On the day, you now need our own skates!
It's been confirmed, our more "grown up" session is staying at The Grand Pavilion Grand Hall, Matlock Bath including Halloween and for this Halloween session we will be shifting the focus towards the dressing up end of things :
This evening will mark the continuation of our residency in the amazing surroundings of the Grand Hall. 114 years ago the Grand Pavilion was built with a theatre space and ballroom. Pretty soon the ballroom was also hosting roller discos!
Skate121 are absolutely delighted to keep roller discos in "The Pav".
Two and a half hours of skating, not in the old ballroom (that is now the museum) downstairs but upstairs in the theatre. There is not enough of a seating area for spectators so this is another session for skaters who are able to come and skate independently. Skate the room, slalom, throw in some moves, have a chat, and then dance some more... Just skate :-)
The floor sounds amazing to roll over as you feel and hear the history of the place. Old polished floorboards that have stood the test of time provide a unique skating experience. Imagine a pirate ship made ready to skate!
The whole building is a work in progress as the current custodians bring the whole building back to life in the most efficient way possible but we can start to enjoy skating the space (and bringing back old memories of how it used to be) now!
The small bar will be available for (non alcoholic) hot and cold drinks and snacks (nuts and crisps). We will however be retiring across the road to The Fishpond to chill, have a drink and swap stories. It's been a great way to wind the evening up, so it's staying :-)
There is a pay and display car park that is a very short walk from the pavilion. Here is the location of the nearest car park that isn't at the pavilion (2 minute walk). The onsite car park is pretty small and doesn't always have spaces.

Parking on the road is free from 6.00pm onwards :-)
The Matlock Bath railway station is a 9 minute walk away and you can find train timetables here.

The Grand Pavilion is a unique skating venue. We have a beautiful old wooden floor consisting of floorboards that have been polished and sanded over the years and have some of that character. We also don't have a sizeable seating area, so we are after skaters. Skaters who can skate already and don't require supervision, and aren't looking to be playing tig or chasing each other around in an unruly manner. Skaters who just want to skate, slalom, dance, cruise, learn something new, but fundamentally, just skate to and with the music :-)
There is a small bar serving soft drinks (hot and cold) and nibbles (peanuts, crisps and the like). They do carry alcoholic drinks but we would ask people to stay on the soft stuff until they have finished skating. We will of course be retiring to The Fishpond over the road for a drink afterwards as well :-)
Skate121 have provided mobile roller skating services in and around the Chesterfield area of Derbyshire for over 10 years. Alongside the regular roller disco evenings that we...
