Train Anyone, Anywhere, Anytime with NASM’s World-Renowned OPT™ Model
The foundation of NASM’s certification is the exclusive Optimum Performance Training® Model. It’s your blueprint for success. It’s a flexible and comprehensive system that allows you to create individualized training plans for any client, any time.

The NASM Certified Personal Trainer certification must be recertified every two years in order to ensure that NASM-CPTs stay up-to-date with current best-practice guidelines and skills. To recertify, you will be required to earn 2.0 NASM-approved CEUs (20 contact hours) every two year certification period. This includes 0.1 CEUs from the mandatory CPR/AED certification.
There are a total of 120 test questions. Of those, 20 are research questions that do not count toward or against your final score. You must pass with a scaled score of 70% or better. You will have 2 hours to complete the exam.
If you do not pass your exam, a retest can be purchased.
You must have a high school degree or GED. You’re also required to have a current CPR and AED certification before you take the NASM-CPT exam (which you can bolt on to your NASM CPT).
This online program makes getting CPR/AED Certified easy and convenient. By completing the self-guided study materials at your own pace, you can get CPR/AED Certified in as little as 1 day.
To become CPR/AED Certified, you simply have to:
1) Register in the CPR/AED program.
2) Complete the self-guided online study materials in your own time from the comfort of home.
3) Pass the certification exam.
After completing the study materials, you’ll take an online exam to become CPR/AED Certified. This exam features 25 questions, and you have unlimited exam attempts.
The exam is taken through a live proctor, which can be online
Start to finish, expect to invest at least 15 weeks to complete the NASM personal training certification (NASM-CPT). In addition to its interactive multimedia-rich content, included learning tools, resources, and comprehensive study-planning guide, candidates can also receive assistance from NASM experts when questions arise. Need more than 15 weeks? That’s okay—candidates have up to 180 days to finish the online course and attempt and pass the exam.
