Headteachers, SLTs and other school leaders who are involved in whole school management.
Background
As school leaders you can get so busy running the day to day that there is no time to focus on strategic issues such as school improvement. In such situations, leaders tend to think of improvement when things go wrong - after inspection. When school improvement is only considered after a poor inspection outcome, all efforts are about addressing the issues identified during the inspection, and not about doing things better to benefit pupils. As a result, actions taken are usually short-term fixes that are driven by the short timeframe in which schools have to demonstrate that they have addressed issues identified during the inspection.
In order for meaningful improvement to take place, improvement should not only be planned when things go wrong. Plans must also be effective in order for them to have a chance being implemented otherwise they will end up getting dusty in some office cabinet.
