Manual Handling covers more than simply lifting or carrying something. The term is used to describe activities such as lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling, carrying, moving, holding or restraining an object or person. It also covers activities that require the use of force or effort such as pulling a lever or operating power tools.
The aim of the course is to provide a theoretical knowledge and the practical skills to recognise the risk of unsafe practices.
This course makes good business sense because it:
reduces your lost days from sickness and absenteeism
improves your workforce productivity
lowers your healthcare costs, insurance premiums and compensation claims
delivers legal compliance for the Manual Handling Regulations 1992
Over 30 per cent of all accidents reported to the Health and Safety Executive are connected with Manual Handling.
Injuries can affect not only the back, but also limbs, muscles, tendons and the heart. As these injuries take longer to heal, they can impact longer term health.
Aspects covered include:
overview of all legal requirements
best practice Manual Handling techniques
types of injuries that can occur
The course duration is one day and includes both theory and practical elements.
On successful completion a certificate is issued.
