PILS was launched in 2007. Around 17,000 professionals are trained in PILS every year. It is the ideal course for healthcare staff who need to develop their skills further than Basic Life Support, but do not need to train in Paediatric Advanced Life Support.
The PILS course teaches the knowledge and skills to:
understand the structured ABCDE approach that facilitates rapid recognition of seriously ill children;
provide appropriate initial treatment interventions to prevent cardiorespiratory arrest;
treat children in respiratory or cardiorespiratory arrest until the arrival of a resuscitation team or more experienced assistance;
become an effective team member who can respond appropriately in an emergency.
Who is this course suitable for?
The PILS Course is appropriate for a range of Candidates including doctors, nurses, paramedics, ODPs, health visitors, school nurses, midwives, cardiac technicians, resuscitation officers, physiotherapists, dentistry professionals, ambulance technicians and medical and nursing students.
Learning outcomes

A manual will be posted out and access to the online learning will be made available 2 weeks before the course date. If you are booking the course less than 2 weeks in advance please ensure you have enough time to prepare. More than 30 days from the course date we may have incurred costs in registering you and/or sending out manuals. You may move your course to an alternative date subject to paying an administration fee of £150.00.

You must inform us immediately, in writing, if you are unable to attend the training course you are booked on to. We reserve the right to charge a cancellation fee based on the amount of notice given.
More than 6 weeks from the course date a full refund is available OR we can transfer you for free on to an alternative date.
Between 6 weeks and 4 weeks from the course date you can receive a refund of 50% of the course fee.
Between 4 weeks and the course date; we will have incurred costs in registering you and/or sending out manuals.
We will try our best to move your course to an alternative date (if availability allows and at our discretion) subject to paying an administration fee of £150.00 but will not eligible for any refund of course fees.
Within 4 weeks of the course date, no refunds are available.
You may only move your course date once.
The e-ALS course is designed for healthcare professionals who need skills in advanced life support as part of their clinical duties, as well as those who teach these skills on a regular basis. This includes doctors, paramedics and nurses working in acute care areas (e.g. ED, CCU, ICU, HDU, operating theatres, acute medical admissions units) or on resuscitation/ medical emergency/ Critical Care Outreach teams.
All applicants must hold a professional healthcare qualification or be in training for a professional healthcare qualification. Medical students in their final year of training can be accepted as Candidates if this is an established local arrangement.
If you are new to UK Practice we strongly advise booking a 2 day ALS course OR and ALS Preparation Course before attending an e-ALS course.
Before the course, you will be registered on our Learning Management System (LMS). Here, you can access pre-course course modules that will prepare you for your face-to-face session and a pre-course multiple choice question (MCQ) paper.
You will receive your course manual one month before the course. Candidates are expected to read the manual in preparation for the course and submit a completed pre-course MCQ paper before the course begins.
We aim to send out manuals at least 4 weeks before the course date. All manuals are sent via Recorded Delivery from the Royal Mail.
Logins are provided 4 weeks before the course date (or within 48 hours of your booking).
If you haven't received your manual 3 weeks before the course date, please contact us immediately. All deliveries are tracked and we can provide this information on request.
Please note that there is currently Industrial Action within the Royal Mail that is outwith our control.
Our course cost includes your manual and postage to any UK address. We are able to post overseas - please let us know where you live. An additional fee may apply.
