It would be easy to think that self-kindness should, surely, come naturally. That we would all know how to think kindly of ourselves, cut ourselves some slack, offer ourselves the same empathy and compassion that we like to offer those around us. But, in my experience as a counsellor and facilitator, this is not the case.
We are very often harder on ourselves than others, we often hold ourselves to higher standards than for others in our lives and we can - and often do - punish and berate ourselves when we don't manage to live up to the image of perfection that we think we should be.
Now, none of this would be a problem if it helped. If it made us feel good. If it brought happiness and a sense of achievement. The sad thing is that it often doesn't. Instead it leaves us exhausted, lacking in confidence, plagued by negative thinking and doubts about our worth. It's a cruel thing indeed that we can end up tormenting ourselves through a simple lack of self-kindness.
Fortunately, there is another way. There is a world in which we can treat ourselves with kindness AND grow, learn, develop and achieve. What's more, in this snappy little workshop I'll be sharing how you can get started and why acceptance isn't about rolling over and giving up and is - instead - the place from which to get started.
I can't wait to share it all with you!
