Description

The QNUK 5-Day, Level 3 Award for Physical Intervention Trainers in the Private Security Industry (RQF) is intended for trainers who wish to offer physical intervention skills training to individuals within the Door Supervisor (DS) or part of the Close Protection (CP) sectors, for the Level 2 part of any Full or Top-up course.

From the Security Industry Skills and Qualifications Review (SISQR) in 2018/2019 and the subsequent physical Intervention consultations, it was agreed that a new requirement for Door Supervisors & Close Protection operatives to undertake physical intervention skills training. Since June 2010 physical intervention skills have been part of the door supervisor linked qualifications and trainers offering the Level 2 qualification must have completed this trainers qualification (approved model).

On successful completion of the course new trainers will be given everything to deliver the Level 2 Application of Physical Intervention for Door Supervisors or the add Level 2 for Close Protection (With our Crossover Conversion Course) through any of the SIA recognised Awarding Organisations (AO)

  • AIM OF THE DS PI COURSE

    To achieve the qualification learners must achieve 2 mandatory Units:

    • Unit 1: Application of Physical Intervention Skills in the Private Security Industry  | Completion via Classroom Training with an MCQ test, Verbal Questioning & Practical Application | 13hrs of Guided Learning
    • Unit 2: Delivering Physical Intervention Training | Completion via Classroom Training with a Workbook Portfolio of Evidence and Practical Delivery Teaching session | 27hrs of Guided Learning

    To complete the full qualification, you will be required to undertake both units and the practical scenario based physical intervention assessments at our training centre.

  • DS PI COURSE REQUIREMENTS

    To participate and complete this qualification all candidates must: 

    • Be a minimum of 18 years of age 
    • Have a good comprehension of the english language
    • Hold a suitable teaching / training qualification (or recognised equivalent):
      • Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) (RQF)
      • Level 3 or 4 Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTTLS / DTTLS).
    • Hold a suitable Level 3 First Aid Certificate (the cerificate must have at least 12 months remaining)

    If you can show that you are working towards or nearing the completion of your teaching award, this will be accepted (the certificate will not be issued until proof of teaching qualifiation).

  • 5-DAY DS PI COURSE CONTENTS

    The qualification course contents covers the indicative content within the first unit (which is a taught L2 unit covered by all Awarding Organisations) and the second unit covers how to safely and effectivley deliver a scenario based physical intervention session. The main content is as follows:

    Unit 1 - Application of Physical Intervention Skills in the Private Security Industry (2 Days)

    • Physical intervention and the implications of their use
    • Understand the risks associated with using physical intervention
    • How to reduce the risk of harm when physical intervention skills are used
    • Use non-aggressive physical intervention skills to protect yourself and others
    • Be able to use fluent, holistic and modern non-pain compliant standing, holding and escorting techniques

    Unit 2 - Delivering Physical Intervention Training (3 Days)

    • Good practice to follow physical interventions
    • Assess the training environment to reduce risks in preparation for physical intervention training
    • Be able to safely and effectively manage the learning environment for physical intervention skills
    • Be able to deliver instruction in physical intervention skills with our unique delivery model
    • Be able to support and assess physical intervention skills through our stepwise approach method
