Successful completion of Dental Nursing Diploma course will enable you to register as a Dental Care Professional with the General Dental Council (GDC) and practice as a qualified Dental Nurse. In addition to our traditional class-based tuition, we also offer Virtual (via Zoom) Learning courses to cater to different learning preferences. Our Virtual Learning courses provide the same high-quality tuition as our classroom-based sessions. To participate, you will need a laptop, PC, smart phone or tablet with a built-in or external camera and microphone. From the comfort of your own home, you will have the opportunity to communicate with your tutor and classmates through video chat, using your phone or computer camera. This allows for seamless interaction, discussions, and collaborative learning. Quarterly meetings at the Academy To ensure a well-rounded learning experience, you will be required to attend face-to-face lessons at the Academy on a quarterly basis, which means every three months. These sessions serve several important purposes: Practical Units: Some aspects of the course require hands-on practical training. The face-to-face lessons will cover these practical units, allowing you to gain valuable experience and apply the knowledge you have acquired during the virtual learning sessions. Tests and Mock Exams: These assessments are important for evaluating your progress, identifying areas for improvement, and preparing you for the final exams. The Academy will provide a controlled and supervised environment to ensure the integrity and fairness of these assessments. Attending quarterly face-to-face lessons provides a balanced approach to your learning journey. It combines the convenience and flexibility of virtual learning with the benefits of in-person interactions, practical training, and assessments. No previous experience required – we will teach you from A to Z. Do you need a job? Yes, you will have 3 months’ time from the start of your course to find a placement. The Academy provides a list of Private and NHS Dental Surgeries, who are regularly contacting us when looking for more Trainee Dental Nurses, so you can contact them directly as a registered student at the Academy. This is a paid job, unless you would like to work voluntary for personal reasons. We also provide a reference letter to the employee in case you need it. It sets out the knowledge, skills and behavioural requirements that should be developed and demonstrated. These are set out in terms of professional competencies, with the assessment method clearly outlined (e.g. how the skills and knowledge will be assessed in the final examinations – via written questions such as multiple choice (MCQ) or extended matching questions (EMQ) or via Objective Structured Clinical Examinations – OSCEs). This is great for those looking on a the long-term plan for their career and those who wish to work their way up the ladder through continued learning, experience & hard work. Trainee Dental Nurse salary for standard working week will be around £23,000 per annum. Average wage for a qualified Dental Nurses between £40,417 to £42,350 p.a. When are the exams? There are two exams: 1. Multiple choice theory exam. November and March. 2. Practical exam. January and June. Record of Experience (eROE) To be eligible to sit your first exam, you have to complete your electronic Record of Experience (eROE). The eROE has to be submitted to your tutor by 31st Jan for March exam, and 31st August for November exam. NATIONALLY RECOGNISED AND ACCREDITED FORENSIC SCIENCE COURSE Level Three (advanced), awarding 3 credits.   DUAL ACCREDITATION: Awarding Body: Open College Network (OCN Credit4Learning) Awarding Body: CPD (21 CPD Points)   A modular "hybrid" forensic science course - eLearning (online) theory and one full day classroom based practical training (Crime Scene Investigations). The practical day covers a wide range of CSI techniques with "hands-on" practical training. On completion awards an OCN Nationally Recognised and Accredited Certificate in Forensic Science. This course is additionally CPD Accredited and also awards 21 CPD points on completion.   PART 1 - THEORY Complete this part of your course online (eLearning Course) in the comfort of your own home or workplace. Please allow approx. 6-8 hours to complete the elearning modules. You do not need to complete Part 1 in one single "sitting” and can log on/off as many times as you wish and when convenient to you. You must complete both parts 1 and 2 to successfully pass this course.   PART 2 - CLASSROOM Attend your forensic science practical day in the classroom, covering a number of key CSI investigative processes and procedures. You will develop your crime scene investigator skills with "hands-on" training in a classroom environment at the training location you have selected. Please note that we will provide protective clothing (disposable aprons), goggles and gloves. Understanding the services of Forensic Labs and the major disciplines.   M02 - Observational Skills Crime Scene Investigation & Recording Examination of the crime scene, photography, videography, sketch recording principles, using a CAD package.   M03 - Forensic Pathology Understanding the job role, working within hospitals, mortuaries, the pathological processes and manner of death.   M04 - Forensic Anthropology How does forensic anthropology help forensic scientists? Using physical markers present on a skeleton to determine age, sex, stature, and race. Bone anatomy and stages of development from foetal to elderly individual. Differentiating male and female: skull, pelvis, femur and humerus.   M05 - Forensic Entomology How entomologists determine time of death as well as advanced investigations involving abuse and neglect. The life cycle of the blowfly and environmental influences. Using insect gut DNA to help solve crimes.   CS01 - Case Study - Forensic Entomology - The Jigsaw Murders   M06 - Forensic Serology Understanding presumptive tests and confirmatory tests. Tests in detail - processes and methods with options for: Blood, Saliva, Semen, Urine.   M07 - Using the Microscope Correct procedures for using the light microscope. RYA Competent Crew or Day Skipper - £770 A five day practical course which can accommodate both Day Skipper and Competent Crew candidates, depending on ability and course requirements. We familiarise you with the yacht and spend the week port hopping whilst you gain experience and work towards your qualification. Competent Crew - An ideal way to develop your skills and to start to become an active crew member capable of contributing to the running of a boat. Course content includes learning how to steer the boat, what the sails do, knot-tying, basic seamanship principles and safety procedures. Day Skipper - Putting Day Skipper level theory into practice and taking command of both the boat and crew, you will also learn learn basic engine checks. This includes building on previous experience and developing new skills for close quarter manouevring, handling under power and sail, day navigation, with some night hours.   RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster™ Preparation - £770 A five day practical course for Coastal Skipper or preperation Yachtmaster™ candidates, this course will build and refine your skills and knowledge, including your planning and skippering for passages with pilotage at day and night, boat handling and safety and emergency procedures. If you are looking to gain the Yachtmaster™ Offshore or Coastal Certificate, please let us know and we will arrange an examiner for you. We cannot over emphasise the need for personal preparation for this exam; your theory knowledge should be instinctive and you should exercise safe practices and judgment without being too overcautious. Primarily you will be examined on your ability to be a good skipper. Our emphasis during this course is consolidate all that you have already learned and fine tune any areas that need improvement. You will be expected to be fully skilled in the following areas: communication with crew members, confident and competent boat handling, high standard chart work and navigation, safety briefings and procedures, radio communication, meteorology skills. Our current school boat is the modern 2017 Dufour 382, a fantastic boat to learn and develop your knowledge on; with her spacious deck layout,dual helm and on-deck plotter, she is easy to handle in close and open quarters. We pride ourselves on providing a comfortable, enjoyable sailing experience and guarantee all students their own cabin.   Facilities on-board include: • Dual helm • Heating • Fridge • Two toilets each with hot water and showers • Three cabins • Television and radio • Charging points for mobiles • On-deck chart plotter and radar   We carry out a deep clean before every course and provide fresh linen and towels. Operating along the picturesque South Devon coast, we venture to prime local cruising locations such as Torbay, Dartmouth, Salcombe and Plymouth. Marinas feature as a daily stop, providing time to reflect and partake in shore-side activities. Our aim is to provide safe fun on the water, allowing you to develop your skills and knowledge in a safe and friendly environment. We use a 3:1 students to instructor raitio, which allows our experienced RYA instructors to tailor courses to the various levels and needs on board, and deliver at a managable pace. Navigation is taught using traditional charting techniques along with electronic methods using E-Series Raymarine chart plotters and Radar.
