Emma Scott born in Cornwall Emma enjoing a woodland eventThe beautiful surroundings that I was lucky enough to grow up in remain a constant source of creative inspiration for me, whether that’s the solitude and tranquillity of the woods or the open and beautiful seascapes. After achieving an art degree in fine arts and textiles finishing with a BA in fine art my creative processes initially had a textile based influence but rural and traditional crafts have always been a source of interest to me and I predominantly work in willow these days. I got involved with the restoration project of Mellingey Mill Willow Craft Centre in 2012 this is now where I am based and have an open studio/shop and where I run workshops. Although a lot of the work I do is still based out in the field you can find me in the shop a couple of days a week making and selling my work. Much of the willow I use for my work is grown here at Mellingey and after 5 years of management replanting my hard work is beginning to pay off and last year saw the first crop to be viable and large on a small scale to use in making most of my own products and in workshops. I find willow a great resource to work with and grow enough varieties to cover its wide ranging uses, from really fine basket willow to larger varieties that are perfect to harvest for hedges and fedges.

I have always had a big passion for art and design and always tend to apply that all important ‘creative flare’ in everything I do. My educational background includes studying Art and Design at College and subsequently, a degree in Multimedia Systems at University. As a professional Henna Artist I have been applying henna onto skin, in the form of body art, for several years. However, recently I decided to experiment with different types of material such as paper, glass and canvas. I was pleasantly surprised by the results, as the dark stain of the henna paste complimented the lighter backgrounds perfectly. The other advantage of this was that the designs wouldn’t fade overtime as they normally would when applied to the body. This is how I started out in my current venture and have gained a lot of interest and positive feedback from the people I’ve shown my work to. All my designs are totally unique and adaptable, and can be viewed at any angle, the owner can decide. So far, I have produced a range of work that is either framed or created directly on canvas. My aim is to create modern, affordable art with a traditional feel that appeals to a wide range of buyers from the general public to specialist collectors.

Catherine Annis is well known for her imaginative and practical approach to yoga. A Level Results Day 2024 saw significant improvement with the proportion of students securing top grades (A* to B) rising by 6% to 58%. 83% of all grades were A* to C (up 8%) providing a strong foundation as students go on to higher education and the world of work. Infrared Thermography is the technique that uses an infrared imaging and measurement camera to “see” and “measure” invisible infrared energy being emitted from an object. Thermal, or infrared energy, is energy is not visible because its wavelength is too long for the sensors in our eyes to detect at temperatures below 525 degree Celsius. It is the part of the electromagnetic spectrum that we perceive as heat. Unlike visible light, in the infrared spectrum everything with a temperature above absolute zero emits infrared electromagnetic energy. Even cold objects such as ice cubes emit infrared radiation. The higher the temperature of the object, the greater the infrared radiation emitted. The Infrared camera converts the radiation into an electrical output to form a two dimensional image and allows us to see levels of energy that our eyes cannot discern! In the industrial/commercial environment, almost everything gets hotter or cooler before it fails, making infrared cameras extremely valuable diagnostic tools with many diverse applications. As industry strives to improve manufacturing efficiencies, manage energy, improve product quality, and enhance worker safety, new applications for infrared cameras continually emerge. Energy loss, especially form structure, has been highlighted in the latest building codes and faulty refractory or insulation in industry adds to the outlay for energy, increasing consumption and raising the cost of products. There is no better inspection techniques that Infrared Thermography to find these thermal anomalies. Thermography is used in so many industries for such a variety of application, it is no wonder that most companies have looked into using this technology in some form. We began our journey from a point of adversity. In 2013, after witnessing a family member suffer significant trauma, we decided to look at ways in which we could use our experience, to help young people in difficult and challenging situations. We began by volunteering, I (Simon) volunteered for the youth service where I worked with young people on referrals from Childrens Services for a year. Louise began by training to be a breastfeeding peer support worker and through this met inspirational healthcare professionals, who signposted her to further training. Now a qualified R.N. and holding a BSc Honours degree she has fulfilled her ambition. As modern nursing adopts a more holistic approach, we began to draw on this knowledge to provide a more valuable service to the young people we work with. We began to study experts in neuroscience who had a particular interest in music like Dr Wendy Mcghee, and Dr Ani Patel, as well as studying the strengths and weaknesses of using technology to support our sessions. We found that Music in general is a powerful and versatile way of supporting young people with not only their development of essential skills, like listening and team work, but over the years, we have recognised a particular advantage when supporting young people who may have become disengaged with education, or have Specific Learning Difficulties. We have a strong philosophy that health and education go hand in hand and we are proud to harness music and technology to share that message, something which is unique to us, that could not have happened without facing our challenges and informing our own personal development.
