Art in the Barn is a twice yearly creative arts week held in the Spring and Autumn, enabling you to choose from a range of workshops, to develop and explore your artistic skills. Our workshops are held in an inspirational setting beneath the South Downs, at Meon Springs Long Barn in Hampshire Art in the Barn is a collaboration between artists Alison Butler (Blooming Designs) and Liz Wellby, who met at Loughborough University whilst studying for degrees in Textiles and Sculpture in the late 1980’s. The Location - a beautiful rural setting in the upper Meon Valley in Hampshire (Meon Springs). The Venue - an inspirational C18th thatched barn, that lends itself to art workshops. It is spacious, with beautiful exposed beams, excellent natural light and superb views over the South Downs. It is a real treat to retreat from day to day life. Our Facilitators - are qualified and experienced artists and teachers, who love what they do. Our Workshops - are suitable for all abilities, be you a beginner or a more experienced artist, allowing you to work together whilst exploring your creativity and developing new skills. Our Spring workshops include a few old favourites, plus some fresh ideas to choose from.

Ideal opportunity for divers qualified from PADI and other organisations to come and join us. If you want to get back in the water with us get in touch soon as we are starting our winter training sessions. Still some summer diving to do yet, then there’s the whole winter season. If you are interested get in touch. BSAC and Club intro for PADI divers (and divers from other organisations) happening now ! These are for divers who are looking to continue diving in Scotland and haven’t found a club to join. Note: If you are a qualified PADI diver then you don’t have to do any BSAC training to dive with us. If this is what you chose to do then all we insist on is a check out dive and up to date rescue skills. Advanced decompression procedures being run in October.

I have been making wire sculptures for over 15 years and recently started working with recycled copper. After leaving school I trained as a marine engineer, so feel confident and at ease working with metals and metalwork tools. I’ve revisited old skills and have been making wire sculptures of birds, animals and people, and selling them for about 15 years. For the past 10 years I have also been teaching small classes of people how to make their own pieces. A few years ago I was given an old copper water cylinder when my son renovated his house and I cut it up to make a large copper flower for my garden. Since then I have been experimenting, designing and making other items and have also been improving my brazing and coppersmithing skills. I particularly like re-using old copper. I am a keen gardener, and often start by having ideas for my own garden, and if they work, I make more to sell. Both galvanised wire and copper are very durable and weatherproof which means they are ideal for garden use, and both weather well over time. I’m very lucky to have a workshop where I can happily while away hours trying out ideas and new projects. Like this:

It’s great fun! Both physically and mentally challenging and a great adrenaline rush. It’s social. Climbers usually work in pairs – one person belaying (holding the rope) which means you are never alone. Climbers love to offer beta (advice) or encouragement. You can rock climb all year. With indoor climbing, it doesn’t matter what the weather’s doing. It is inexpensive. You can hire equipment very cheaply until you know you are hooked and with pay monthly, climbing is great value. There is a brilliant sense of accomplishment every time you climb. There is something incredibly satisfying about physically making your way to the top. Climbing is great exercise, you can burn up to 900 calories per hour! It teaches life skills – teamwork, problem-solving, exercise, courage and conviction. Climbing is never boring. There are so many routes on the walls, with a variety of challenges and these routes are changed regularly. It will make you a better version of yourself, challenge yourself every time you climb and learn important skills. It opens your life to awesome experiences. As you progress you may find the urge to climb outdoors where you can encounter breathtaking scenery and a wilderness adventure most people will never know.

Hello! and a very warm welcome to Carlisle Snow Sports Club’s website. Thank you for dropping by to visit us! We are a small Dendex Dry ski slope situated in the heart of Carlisle. Carlisle Snow sports club can offer skiing lessons for children, adults, groups and private lessons. ABOUT OUR SLOPE! The main slope is designed for day and night skiing, equipped with flood lights, sprinkler system and ski tow. It has slalom markers for all the racers and a small set of bumps for the more adventurous skiers. LOCATION Carlisle Snow sports club is situated in the grounds of Carlisle cricket club, Eden side CA3 9NS. We have our own club house and car park with disabled access. All our instructors for scheduled and or private lessons are fully BASI and or CASI/CSIA qualified to ensure high quality in every lesson taught at our slope. We believe that the best way for snow sports skills to grow and develop are to keep our lessons fun, relaxed and exciting!
