The Malham Smithy is the workshop of female blacksmith Annabelle Bradley, where she runs blacksmith experience days and designs and hand forges sculptural and functional wrought ironwork. Annabelle uses traditional blacksmithing techniques combined with contemporary design in producing decorative items for the home and garden. The Malham Smithy is situated in the heart of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales village of Malham and has a gallery area displaying wrought ironwork as well as a viewing area to be able to watch Annabelle at work on the traditional coke forge, if you are looking for things to do in Malham or the Yorkshire Dales, come and visit the historic Malham Smithy, suitable leisure entertainment for families, old and young. A small selection of hand forged items such as candle sconces, companion sets and hooks etc. are available to purchase from the gallery, you can also take the opportunity to discuss commissions for bespoke designs, or book a session to forge your own piece of hand crafted art. The Malham Smithy was bequeathed to the Parish Church by Artist Blacksmith Bill Wild in the early 1980's, and has ever since been leased out by the Church as a traditional blacksmiths workshop. In February 2007, Annabelle Bradley was given the opportunity to work from the Malham Smithy and continues to this day keeping this beautiful Yorkshire Dales village heritage alive. Annabelle has featured on Countryfile with Anita Rani, Julia Bradbury's Unforgettable Walks, The Dales with Adrian Edmondson, Back to the Land with Kate Humble, The One Show with Alex Jones, Escape to the Country, Craig and Bruno's Great British Roads Trips, Channel 5 at the Great Yorkshire Show with Julian Norton and Jules Hudson, The Dales and the Lakes, and featured in books about the Dales and magazine articles including Period Living. Both courses are designed for students with some previous experience in stained glass or have already either completed a beginners course or attended a workshop. The course will focus on developing ideas and extending technical and artistic skills in design and stained glass execution. Students will be encouraged to experiment and learn how different colours and glass types work together and how to enhance your designs. Tools are included in the cost but materials will be an extra charge for materials. NEW - Beginners Stained Glass Leading – Evening (Mondays) 19th September (6 weeks) to 31st October, 6.30pm - 9pm | £210 materials and tools included NEW - Beginners Stained Glass Leading (Wednesdays) 28th September (5 weeks) to 2nd November, 2pm - 5pm | £210 materials and tools included This Short 5-week (6-week evening) course is designed for newcomers and beginners. Whether you are a complete novice or would like to practice your skills, you will be guided through the steps and skills needed to create a simple stained glass panel using traditional leading techniques. You will be encouraged to experiment and learn how different colours and glass types work together. You will produce a final leaded panel approximately 25cm x 25cm using coloured glass. The course will cover basic panel design, creating cutting template, selecting and cutting from a beautiful range of coloured glass, leading, soldering cementing and finishing techniques. One-Day Workshops An Introduction To The Colourful World Of Traditional Stained Glass One Day Workshop 9.30am – 5pm | Saturday 24th September | £145 This one-day taster course allows you to experience making a piece of traditional stained glass as a 20cm square panel to take home. This is a practical course, you will learn the basic construction process: cutting glass, putting a panel together with a lead, soldering, cementing and finishing. A choice of simple abstract designs will be available, as well as all the materials needed to create your stained glass piece.
