I set up Albany Pet Services with the support of the Princes Trust Charity. After university I took some routes down the corporate route. I had visions that lunches in London and walking past the Heron tower and the Gherkin would carrying my Kate Spade handbag would fulfil me but it didn’t! In search of more meaning in my work, I joined a charity and learnt about the power of how dogs learn. It fascinated me how much trust a person could place in their dogs and how clever dogs were. From here, after my contract ended, I started Albany Pet Services. I’m fascinated by neuroscience and how it can help to build habits and reach goals. I look at a pets behaviour from a holistic approach. It’s important for me to understand a pet’s behaviour from their early life experiences and previous reinforcement that makes them behave this way. Sometimes the need the pet is desiring is not always food so it’s important for me to look at a behaviour from a motivation perspective. I believe training can help a pet be safe in our busy world, and when done correctly can be an excellent preventative strategy for behavioural challenges. Consent is key, for human and non human learners. My training service can help you to feel more confident with your dog and help you to stress less. I have spent hundreds of hours studying, reading, writing reports and training and I would love to share what I have learnt to overcome the particular challenge you’re experiencing. I volunteer for the Blue Cross providing talks for children in schools about canine choice, pet care and staying safe around dogs. This is really important to me as many dog bites can be preventable. When I am not working with people and their pets, I enjoy watching and participating in my local theatre and running group. I also love singing and dancing ( I’m yet to master them but I enjoy them nevertheless!). Flying a plane is the next goal!

Gawthorpe Textiles Collection (GTC) is the operating name of independent museum and registered charity The Rachel Kay-Shuttleworth Textile Collections. Since its establishment in 1959, the charity has existed to deliver its powerful founding vision focused on education, public access to the collection for all and the promotion of wellbeing. The aims and purposes of the charity have never been more relevant as the country faces the challenges created by the Covid-19 pandemic. GTC operates from the Gawthorpe Hall estate in Padiham, Lancashire; family home to founder Rachel Kay-Shuttleworth MBE (1886- 1967), a life long collector of global textile and craft items. Rachel was a prolific lace maker and embroiderer. She was also a philanthropist who devoted her life to actively improving the social welfare of the communities on her doorstep. The charity’s long term ambition is to work in partnership to realise Rachel's vision of creating a craft house, a centre of excellence for learning in textiles. As the only dedicated textile collection of its size and variety in Lancashire, the collection which stands at over 30,000 pieces of global provenance, is a truly remarkable resource. It is one of the most diverse, interesting and encyclopaedic textile collections in the UK and is known to specialists worldwide. In a digital age which is seeing a strong resurgence in the value of hand crafts, GTC champions traditional craft skills, celebrates creativity and delivers programmes of activity which have profound and positive life changing effects on individuals’ mental wellbeing and life skills, promoting a sense of community - all through participation in craft. Key activities undertaken by the charity fall into two strands; management and care of the collection including research, documentation, acquisition, interpretation and conservation. Secondly, sharing the collection with the public; catering to a broad range of ages, cultural backgrounds and skill levels. This includes delivering historic and contemporary exhibitions, artist collaborations, workshops, talks, tours, research and study visits, as well as outreach in the local community through Valley Street Textiles Studio (a joint initiative with Calico Homes).

I began my own Yoga journey in 2002, having suffered from excruciating cluster headaches for some months I decided to see if Yoga could help. Not only did it cure my headaches it also began to take away the aches and pains I had for years in my knees. Although I “found” yoga looking for help for physical ailments, I quickly came to realise the huge benefits to my emotional and mental well being too. Having attended classes with Sam Rao for 16 years, through 2 pregnancies, work challenges, losing family and a close friend I found that Yoga really was the one thing I could turn to for help physically and mentally. In 2018 I took the leap to begin the next part of my Yoga journey and began my training with Sam Rao Yoga School. I began teaching in January 2019. Since graduating I have attended numerous courses and workshops including Teen Yoga, "The Alchemy of Touch", Introduction to teaching pregnancy Yoga, principles of Yin and Restorative Yoga and Thai Massage, and Philosophy in Movement to extend my learning and be able to offer more classes to my yogis. My personal practice remains incredibly important to me. As well as practice at home I attend a regular weekly class, as well as visiting other teachers and attending day and weekend retreats. These are amazing opportunities to self nurture and also improve my own teaching. My wish is to share Yoga with my local community and encourage you to attend a class where you listen to your body, not just my guidance, finding a Yoga practice you can share in class and also take away into your every day life. Recognising that Yoga isn't just about moving but about breath, stillness, connection, how we live our lives, kindness, compassion and nurturing. Progressions Tutoring was set up in 2014 by Sarah Lee, a primary school teacher and mum to 4 children. Sarah has a BA (Hons) Degree in Primary Education and is Paediatric First Aid trained. As well as being a member of The Tutors Association, Sarah has also maintained registration with Ofsted over the last few years to give parents the opportunity to pay via childcare voucher accounts. Children’s access to high quality teaching and learning is the team’s absolute focus. 8 years on and Sarah now works alongside a small team of qualified teachers who deliver high quality teaching to more than 40 children weekly. Whether they are working on their phonic knowledge in Year 1 or calculating algebraic expressions in Year 5 and 6, each child is delivered a personalised learning program and given the time and attention they need in every session. “When I first began tutoring, my aim was to give every child who walked through my doors, the very best opportunity in being able to learn and reach their full potential through fun, engaging but most importantly, nurturing sessions. Every child was and still is, treated as if they are my own. I knew what I wanted to get from the education system for my own children but being a teacher realised that this wasn’t always achievable for each and every child from a class of 30. I felt that through my tuition, I could change that scenario some-what, I could possibly be the difference that allowed a child to become more confident and ready for new challenges”. Only by understanding these things can we help children develop an organised, efficient and effective learning mentality. Mentoring & advice We understand that making decisions about education and careers can be difficult and stressful. That’s why we’re always happy to offer students advice– especially those studying GCSE and A-Levels — to help them navigate subject and career options. Bespoke syllabus Like private schools, we have dedicated Subject Coordinators building our bespoke syllabus (fully aligned to the National Curriculum and major exam boards like AQA, OCR and Edexcel). This central control allows us to plan lessons for the entire year and cover everything students need to learn for exams. Assessment every 6 weeks After 5 weeks of learning a particular set of topics, students are tested on week 6 to assess how much they’ve learnt. The results show us where the student is successful, but also gives us an idea of where there is room for improvement so that we can reinforce those topics. Homework for every lesson Every student receives approximately 30 minutes worth of homework for each hour of tuition. We find it’s a good amount of work that will keep their brains stimulated outside of school & tuition, without being too stressful. Parent conferences Want regular updates about how your child is progressing? Every 12 weeks we organise a parent conference, allowing parents to catch up with tutors and ask any questions. Qualified & experienced tutors We only use UK qualified and experienced tutors that are either active/experienced school teachers, or industry professionals like trainee doctors, dentists and engineers that are currently working in their respective fields. Small classes Schools can overcrowd classrooms with 25-30 children at one go, making it difficult to give them individual attention. Our centre maintains an average of 6-8 students per class so that everyone gets the support they need to succeed.
