I discovered Pilates in my twenties after being diagnosed with a herniated disc in the lower back. The specialist consultant advised that a program of prescriptive pilates exercises would manage the condition, prevent pain and more importantly avoid future operations. I have been practicing Pilates ever since and I am an advocate of its benefits which include supporting life-long medical conditions, injury prevention and managing stress. I was trained by Cherry Baker, one of the UK’s Leading Pilates practitioners. I hold the highest qualification available in mat based Pilates and have been teaching for over 15 years. Following the success of Poynton Pilates I'm now running new classes at Bramhall Pilates. About Modern Pilates Modern Pilates is a respected and reputable training organisation and is trusted within the industry. Modern Pilates brings Joseph Pilates’ Classical approach into the 21st century by combining his principles with recent research. This clinical approach has been devised by physiotherapists and Modern Pilates was instrumental in the development of Pilates training courses in the UK. Modern Pilates was the first organisation in the UK to gain YMCA Qualifications approval. What is the difference between Classical, Contemporary and Modern Pilates? Classical Pilates follows as closely as possible to Joseph Pilates' original work, his exercises and the order in which they were performed Contemporary Pilates is based partly on Joseph Pilates' work but with modifications to the exercises so that they fit with modern research Modern Pilates is unique as it offers Contemporary Pilates with a clinical approach as the exercises have been designed in conjunction with physiotherapists and recent research. Many of the exercises remain the same but allowances are made for injury rehabilitation and creativity by the teacher.

Amplify is a training and development consultancy led by Tom Burke. Founded in 2003, amplify provides services primarily to the voluntary sector with a focus on children and youth issues both in the UK and in the Global South. Tom has an extensive history of personal, professional and voluntary work with children and young people and the wider voluntary sector. From a child involved in youth work and global child rights advocacy, he developed skills and experience as a practitioner and advocate. He can bring this mix of experiences into work as a trainer, writer and consultant. Most recently, Tom was Deputy Chief Executive at Y Care International, the international development agency of the YMCA movement. He led their International Citizen Service youth volunteering programme, safeguarding & security, global youth work, policy & advocacy and financial management. Working part-time this was balanced with a range of freelance projects. Previously, Tom grew up in the youth and child rights movement. As a young activist, he was a member of the steering group of the Child Rights Caucus at the UN Special Session on Children and director of social enterprise ‘Young People Change the World’. He was engaged in local youth participation initiatives creating platforms for young people to be heard or to access services, including in sexual health and children in care. Tom was Chair of Trustees of youth-focussed international development charity Peace Child International. He was previously Senior Policy and Change Officer at the Children’s Rights Alliance for England, where he specialised in children’s participation rights, undertaking policy analysis, Parliamentary lobbying and campaigning for change. Over the past 15 years, he has undertaken consultancy for a range of clients on projects ranging from safeguarding, inclusion, evaluation and research projects, training and direct delivery.

Over the last 12 years, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed teaching Pilates to many people of all ages and abilities, and with varying muscle and joint problems, back issues and health conditions. I started my complementary healthcare training 19 years ago, qualifying in 2002 with a diploma from the London School of Sports Massage. I returned to my home city of Edinburgh that year, successfully building up a client base and running the complementary healthcare clinic Happy Being for 12 years in the west end, until 2020. Back in 2009, I decided to train as a Pilates teacher and qualified with a certificate in mat Pilates teaching Level 3 CYQ (Central YMCA Qualifications). This came from a desire to help my massage clients develop the tools to care for their own bodies rather than relying on regular massage treatments and doing their own exercises between sessions with varying results. The two disciplines successfully ran side by side, with many people coming to the clinic for both massage treatments and Pilates classes. In 2016 I developed my physiological and anatomical knowledge and practical skills further by achieving an advanced remedial massage diploma from the Scottish School of Sports Massage. I apply the knowledge I gained through this training to my Pilates teaching, drawing on a deeper understanding of the human body and how it works. I am constantly developing ideas, combining my vision with a structured modern approach. I’ve worked with many clients with varying levels of fitness and health conditions, from athletes to those with chronic fatigue syndrome CFS/ ME. I start with the 8 fundamental principles of the Pilates Method and the many Pilates movements to bring about new ideas. These are often from varying disciplines which I’ve studied and practised over the years such as Qigong, Tai Chi and even meditation with breath work. Many of the balance, warm-up stretches and cool-down movements in the classes are Qigong-based.

“FAB FITNESS MUSIC” and “FAB FITNESS PT UK” is an independent fitness brand and company owned by Fitness Instructor, Presenter, Personal Trainer and Music Producer, Alistair McMeechan. A Brief History: 1990: Age 7 – Alistair began learning to play the piano. 2001: Age 18 – he qualified as a Group Exercise Fitness Instructor. 2007: Age 24 – he moved to Manchester to learn how to create electronic dance music. 2009: Age 25 – he had his first record release “The Cyber Scotsman vs Paul F – Sucker for Hardcore” released on Presence Hard. 2015: Age 31 – he became a UK Fitness Presenter and formed www.aliandginapresents.com with his fitness partner, Gina King. 2016: Age 33 – he became an Ambassador for Pure Energy Music. 2018: Age 34 – he and Gina became the first two UK Instructors to complete the “EURO EDUCATION STEP COMPLETE” Master Training Programme in Barcelona. 2019: Age 35 – he became a Personal Trainer and “FAB FITNESS PT UK” was created!!! 2020: Age 36 – “FAB FITNESS MUSIC” was born!!! Alistair has over 20 years’ experience teaching classes all over the UK and Europe. He has presented at numerous fitness events and regularly tours Britain with his fitness partner, Gina King, promoting their Freestyle Step & Aerobics “Ali and Gina Presents” events. He discovered his passion for Step & Aerobics when he was just 15 years old, and started an after-school aerobics class when he was just 16 – with a little help from his P.E. teachers! His natural progression to qualify as an instructor was achieved two days after his 18th birthday in 2001 – and his passion for music and fitness continues to burn bigger and brighter with each passing day! Throughout 2018 and 2019, Alistair and Gina added to their accolades by becoming the first two UK citizens to achieve certification from the European “Euro Education” Step Complete Diploma Training Programme, delivered by European Master Trainer Guillermo Gonzalez Vega. This enabled them to bring the high-class flair and standards of European Freestyle Presentation to their native UK homeland! With his ever-increasing thirst for knowledge to actively improve people’s quality of life through the joy of fitness, Alistair has continued to add to his skill set. 2019 saw him become a certified Level 3 YMCA Personal Trainer, a certified Non-Contact Boxing Tutor, and Advanced Boxing For Fitness Instructor with another specialisation in Exercise for Older Adults. With current studies ongoing for a certification in “Level 3 GP Exercise Referral” and “Level 4 Nutrition and Weight Loss”, Alistair’s mission to provide the highest level of service to all of his members and participants of the “FAB FITNESS” community continues to grow and flourish! Alistair’s lifelong desire to create his own kind of music brought him to Manchester in 2007, where he continues to reside to the present day.
