The LAA operates a strict compliance regime when it comes to auditing family controlled work matters, and mistakes can often result in a Contract Notice, corrective action, and further follow-up activity within 6 months. This course will discuss the various aspects of family controlled work billing, with discussions on topics such as how to bill private law, public law, and help with mediation matters; how to evidence whether substantive negotiations and a settlement have taken place in private law matters; how do the LAA audit travel and other disbursement claims; what evidence must be present on files to avoid any issues on audit – including scope, gateway evidence, and forms/evidence of means (rules on evidence of means will be included in brief, however, a separate, more in-depth Civil Means Assessment Guidance Course is available); and the rules on claiming separate matters and escape fees. Key aspects of the Civil Contract and associated LAA Guidance (including the Codes Guidance) will be included, along with a discussion of common errors that are made. Target Audience This online course is aimed at anyone involved in billing Family Controlled Work matters or managing an LAA Family Contract. Resources Course notes will be provided to all delegates which may be useful for ongoing reference or cascade training. Please note a recording of the course will not be made available. Speaker Steve Keeling, Consultant, DG Legal Steve joined DG Legal after leaving the Legal Aid Agency in August 2016. In his 17 years at the LAA, he worked in the audit team as both auditor and manager and was a Contract Manager for several years. Steve is also a certified SQM auditor and undertakes audits on behalf of Recognising Excellence as well as running training sessions for the SQM Audit Team periodically.

Course Description The RQF Level 1 Awareness of Safeguarding course is designed to provide individuals with a basic understanding of safeguarding principles and practices. Understanding the importance of maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information appropriately. Responding to safeguarding concerns in a timely and appropriate manner. Promoting Safeguarding and Preventing Abuse: Strategies for promoting a safe and inclusive environment. Recognizing potential risk factors and implementing preventative measures. Understanding the importance of creating a culture of safeguarding within organizations. Multi-Agency Collaboration: Collaboration between different agencies and organisations involved in safeguarding, such as social services, law enforcement, and healthcare. Sharing information and working together to ensure effective safeguarding practices. Case Studies and Scenarios: Reviewing case studies and scenarios to apply safeguarding principles and practices. Analysing potential safeguarding dilemmas and decision-making processes. Personal Responsibilities: Recognising personal boundaries and limitations when working with vulnerable individuals. Understanding the importance of self-care and managing emotional well-being when dealing with safeguarding issues. It is important to ensure that the course meets local safeguarding guidelines and requirements.

Course Summary Mini Medics - First Aid The Mini Medics courses is a Child friendly introduction to first aid and defibrillation aimed at children between the ages of 8 and 11, but it can suit children of any age from about 5 upwards. The course is kept at a basic level with no use of confusing terminologies. The mini medics course will show complete respect for the child’s ability, make it educational and practical, and instil the importance of helping someone who is poorly or injured. Fully illustrated 24-page ‘First Aid for Children’ book • A unique syringe pen in various colours (or colouring pencils) • A 4-page worksheet There is also the opportunity to purchase t-shirts and hoodies - delivered at a later date Course Contents A range of subjects are covered including: What is First Aid? Safety Communication and contacting the emergency services First Aid kits DR ABC Recovery position Choking Resuscitation (CPR) Defibrillation (AED) Wounds and bleeding Asthma Shock Certification A certificate of attendance is included with the Mini Medic book as a ‘cut-out’ for the child.
