We are a global testing, inspection and certification company that delivers critical services in materials testing, product qualification testing, inspection and certification to the Fire and Building Products marketplace, where failure in service is simply not an option. In 1934, a forerunner of what later became the Timber Research and Development Association (TRADA) was set up, its mission, to promote the use of wood in construction in the face of a growth in the use of alternative materials. 60 years later in the mid 1990s and following a management buyout of TRADA’s operating companies, the testing, inspection and certification services were grouped together under the three brands, BM TRADA Certification, Chiltern International Fire and TRADA Technology.

I am fortunate enough to be the Principal of Homefield College and am delighted that you have found your way to our website to explore the many opportunities that the College provides to support people with learning difficulties and / or disabilities to lead fulfilling lives. Homefield College was founded in 1987 as a long-term residential provision for people with learning and communication difficulties. We have since expanded our offering with specialist further education and training, supporting both part-time and full-time day and residential students. The College now offers a range of individualised vocational education programmes based within local communities. All programmes are tailored to the needs of each individual with the starting point being that they feel safe in the environment that they are in. Once this is achieved it allows our staff to work with them to develop and improve their skills to enable them to live more independently once they leave the College. You will see on the website details of the activities that we provide which put together make up a study programme. Our education provision is based upon our belief that young people achieve through experience and this is reflected in the activities provided in our programmes. Students will undertake work experience and we hope that for some of them this will lead to a supported internship. Beyond the education provision, we also offer residential experiences for those who would like to further develop their independent living skills and this can often provide a period of respite for the student’s family. Homefield also provides a range of services for those who remain as part of our lifelong learning provision. These include: long-term residential care, supported work experiences, day services and community enterprises. I enjoyed a very broad experience with Shell UK, spanning logistics and distribution, business-to-business marketing, retail sales, marketing communications and the exploitation of motor sport sponsorships, customer service, operations and career transition. During this time I was also invited to tutor with The Leadership Trust on their Leadership in Management programme. This increased my desire to transform the performance of both executives and senior managers; and by that, to improve organisational performance too. This interest led me to the world of HR and in particular, guiding organisations through down-sizing processes; and supporting people through the redundancy experience – empowering them to become more self-aware and articulate their value to new potential employers. Specialising at executive and senior manager levels, means I make a real difference to them as individuals, drawing out their real values that positively impact on performance, profitability and stakeholder esteem; and therefore benefit new roles or organisations. For over 25 years, I have provided specialist and focused support to executives and senior managers spanning all key disciplines and the entire spectrum of industry, public sector and 3rd sector organisations. My interest is always in finding a better way to help smooth the process; guiding clients in a more professional way through each stage of their career transition – always with high quality and unlimited 1:1 support – and a unique approach supported by technical reasoning and psychological evidence. A qualified, experienced Mountain Leader and Rock Climbing Instructor, I was born and grew up in Hayfield at the foot of Kinder Scout where the mass trespass paved the way for hillwalking as we know it. My grandfather raced at Le Mans with Rob Lawrie, a boot maker who supplied the Alpine Club expeditions and made boots for Hillary’s ascent of Everest. Given this background, it was inevitable I’d be involved in the outdoors. I love this history but am equally excited about helping future generations and those new to the mountains. I’ve worked in the outdoors since 2006. I believe education and learning is vital and that mountaineering can be a powerful tool to develop people – whether this is a long, life changing journey or simply climbing a single peak as one-off challenge. In addition to working as a Mountain Leader and Instructor my expertise in logistics, planning & project management means I have the capability to deliver highly successful events across a broad range of sectors. I provide logistical & event support services for adventurous activities & challenges to a range of customers including charities, schools, private companies & high net worth individuals. I enjoy a range of outdoor, active sports; hillwalking, skiing, climbing, sailing, cycling (on the road) and swimming in open water. I enjoy introducing the next generation to the outdoors – through the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and supporting primary schools. I’m based in Manchester and work predominantly in the Peak District, Lake District, Yorkshire Dales & Snowdonia, but I am UK mobile.
