Council Of Validating Universities

council of validating universities

London

About CVU The Council of Validating Universities is the only body in the UK specialising exclusively in good practice and standards for that aspect of higher education which concerns the validation of programmes of study by universities and colleges (‘awarding institutions’) for delivery by other colleges or organisations (‘partner institutions’). The term ‘collaborative provision’ is often used to describe this form of partnership. Foundation and Remit The CVU was formed in 1982 and registered as a charity in 1996. It became incorporated as a Company Limited by Guarantee on 28th October 2004 (Company Number: 05272761). It is a non-statutory body comprising representatives from higher education institutions and other related organisations in the United Kingdom. Objectives: To advance education, including training and research, in particular by: keeping under review the concerns of degree-awarding institutions within the United Kingdom in relation to collaborative activity identifying and promoting good practice in collaborative validation. The CVU defines ‘collaborative provision’ as the process whereby a degree-awarding body judges one or more programmes of study, courses, or modules offered by another body to be appropriate to lead to a qualification and/or credit of that degree awarding body. The programmes of study may be designed and developed by either the degree-awarding body or the the other body or a partnership of the two. Collaborative validation therefore embraces the accreditation of institutions, the franchising of courses and other forms of academic association.

My name’s Marion Webber and I’ve been working in the field of Arts in Health and more general participatory arts for over a decade. Studies* have proven the benefits of taking part in creative activities that support our daily lives. I founded Arting Celfio during 2020, to enable Healthcare professionals and artists specialising within Arts and Health to collaborate and provide high-quality, tailor-made, person-centered arts projects. I am a practicing artist based in South Wales, with extensive experience in Participatory Arts Practice. This has given me the privilege to work with diverse participants on many commissions resulting in the installation of artworks in both temporary and permanent exhibitions. My art practice and knowledge inform how I collaborate and co-curate projects with Healthcare professionals and fellow artists within the field of Arts in Health. I have an MA (with Distinction - Arts Practice Arts, Health and Wellbeing) and gained a PGCE PcET Teaching Qualification (Post-16 and Adult Education sectors). I deliver creative workshops, informed by reflective practice and a commitment to continued professional development that connects, and provides meaningful activities that value people’s input and stories. I’d love the chance to discuss your ideas for projects, so please drop me an email. The artwork below are examples from my own practice. Powys.

Thomas has been an upholsterer for over thirty years, having studied furniture production at High Wycombe College, leading to a lifetime of practising traditional upholstery. Thomas and his team are based at the Old Maltstore, a fine 17th Century malt store on quiet lane in the heart of Knighton. Thomas is a certificated member of the guild of Traditional Upholsterers as well as having a City and Guild qualification for teaching adults. Thomas initially practised in the Lake district and then for the last twenty-five years has practised in Knighton, a beautiful border town in Mid Wales. Having restored furniture, and run courses in this beautiful area, operating first from the barns at The Upper House, Discoed, home to John Nethercott & Co the fine furniture makers, and then in several local village halls, he established a centre for practicing and teaching upholstery at The Old Maltstore. Most weeks will find a bustling enthusiastic bunch of upholsterers, young and old, skilled and learners, battling over their projects. Thomas’s upholstery work for clients includes furniture from the 17th century onwards, including fragile historic pieces and contemporary traditional furniture. His courses are suitable for all and he is happy to give advice about the type of project that will be right for individuals. He gives lots of tailored support to ensure projects are completed to a high standard. He can also recommend local accommodation in the town for those wishing to stay.
