Kathy King is a Science and Psychology specialist who has worked with a variety of vulnerable groups including young people with special educational needs, including social, emotional and behavioural problems, and the homeless. She is passionate about showing others the power of being active in nature and using outdoor activities as a tool to improve wellbeing. Her research has proven that participation in a 6-week Forest School programme can increase attendance and reduce exclusion rates from mainstream school. Applying the fundamentals of the holistic Forest School approach in all that she does, Kathy believes this can create positive changes in behaviour. Kathy made a life-changing decision to leave teaching and enrol on an outdoor instructor programme after experiencing high levels of work-related stress and anxiety. The 2-day a week course provided an opportunity to master new skills and focus on what she considered to be most important in life. It was on the water that the idea for the Wild Camp Training Programme was born. This is a project aimed at young women who are currently out of education, employment and/or training (N.E.E.T) and is designed to empower and increase physical and mental health. Since then, the charity has evolved to deliver after school clubs, forest school sessions, holiday clubs, 1-1 outdoor activity sessions and group days out.

I USED TO SPEND HOURS DOING CARDIO UNTIL THE ‘CALORIES BURNED’ NUMBER HIT THE NUMBER I WANTED, AS WELL AS CONSTANTLY CHECKING THE NUMBERS ON MY WEIGHING SCALES AND ON THE LABELS OF EVERYTHING I ATE. I’VE EXPERIENCED WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO FEEL LIKE MY BODY WASN’T ENOUGH, AND EXERCISED FOR THE WRONG REASONS. THESE ARE HARD HABITS TO BREAK FROM, BUT THE TRANSITION HAPPENED FOR ME WHEN I FOUND A MOVEMENT PRACTICE THAT MADE ME THRIVE. A PRACTICE THAT MADE ME FEEL GOOD DURING THE MOVEMENT, NOT JUST BECAUSE I GOT THROUGH A WORKOUT. I WILL HOLD A SPACE FOR YOU TO EXPLORE YOUR BODY WITH A NON-JUDGEMENTAL AND NON-MILITARY APPROACH. I WILL ENCOURAGE THAT YOU LISTEN TO THE SENSATIONS YOU FEEL AS YOU MOVE AND ADAPT TO SUIT YOUR BODY.

St Clare’s is an 11-16 special academy for 143 children with learning difficulties and associated complex needs including autism, social emotional mental health concerns, sensory issues, anxiety and challenging behaviour. St Clare’s is part of the Esteem Multi Academy Trust which is a trust of 11 special schools from Derbyshire and Staffordshire. All students who attend St. Clare’s have an Education, Health and Care Plan. St Clare’s success comes from our ethos that everyone needs to be nurtured and treated with care and respect in order to learn, build cultural capital, and develop independence ready for their next stage of life and learning. Delta One Canines was established in 1999 when I retired from the Police Force.  Twenty one  of those thirty years was spent as a dog handler and dog training instructor. The aims of the business are the same now as they were then, to provide dog training and behaviourial advice to pet owners that is effective, acceptable and affordable. The business has grown over the last twenty five years and now includes two associate instructors.  Potential clients of the business can be assured by our membership of bona fide professional organisations. I have been a full member of British Institute of Professional Dog Trainers since the mid 1980s and an Honorary Life Member  of Canine Behaviour & Training Society (Formerly U.K. Registry of Canine Behaviourists) since 2010. My associate trainers are also  members of B.I.P.D.T.. On-going staff training has included courses in Canine First Aid and dog law. We deliver Responsible Dog Ownership Courses which were developed by ourselves at the request of and in association with  West Midlands Police. We pride ourselves on delivering a personal service to all clients. All our training lessons are delivered on a “One to one”  basis so that owner and dog can progress at their own pace without distractions.  Behaviourial consultations are delivered at the owners home. The consultations deal with matters such as aggression, separation anxiety, dominance and other subjects that are beyond the scope of a regular training lesson. Owners are given a behaviour modification program to address the cause of the dogs unwanted behaviour.

Every local authority in England has this type of service and what they provide is shaped by chapter 2 of the SEND Code of Practice (opens in a new window) and the National Minimum Standards for IAS Services (opens in a new window) This service is free, accessible, confidential, impartial and provided at arm’s length from the Local Authority. SENDIASS aims to represent the views of parents, carers, children and young people to feedback to the Local Authority to help shape local policy and practice.

Keith is a DVSA Approved Driving Instructor (ADI), who believes in delivering driver training specific to your learning style and particular needs. He has a Masters degree in Psychotherapy and previously worked in the NHS. He has vast experience of working with people experiencing anxiety and road traffic trauma and has developed specific techniques to help people build confidence and manage those driving test nerves on the lead up to that all important "test". He is patient and understanding and will work in partnership with you to reach your true potential as a driver. Learning to drive can be a stressful experience and Keith has specific skills, using techniques to help to help you manage this stress. He has also developed techniques to enhance learning. The first, using acoustic encoding to help you remember aspects of driving and secondly using using video to aid semantic memory, which helps you understand and give meaning to the skill you are developing. He has excellent communication skills and teaches you in a way that helps you to reflect on the skills you are learning and develop these skills progressively each lesson. Keith believes in offering value for money and you will know exactly what you are are focussing on each lesson and when you are ready for your test you will feel fully prepared. He even has an approach to cope with those test centre nerves! When Keith is not out in the car he enjoys trail and hill walking.

Inner Flame is a local Swindon-based Charity running programmes for young people who find themselves at a disadvantage in Swindon and Wiltshire. The organisation was founded by David Wreathall in 2008. The passion is to give young people the tools and mindset to thrive in their future lives. Our programmes are based around experiential learning; challenging the young people and inspiring them to grab life and run with it. We are probably best known for the Prince’s Trust Team Programme, which is a 12-week full time employability and self-development programme. It’s an incredible programme and can genuinely be life-changing. We have also developed our own Mental Health Programme: Manage Anxiety Your Way. We created this in response to the increased need (even before the Pandemic) for mental health support for young people. This programme is proving to meet a need and the feedback about the impact on young people is powerful. Around these programmes we run shorter programmes to create a full progression route for young people. Success is measured by hard outcomes, such as young people progressing to the workplace, but also by soft outcomes; such as increased resilience, motivation and development of goals and aspirations. At Inner Flame we always start with the individual. Many young people who come through our doors have low self esteem and feel their lives have little value. We show them that they can achieve and help them start their journey.
