My name is Denise Thompson/Coutu. I’ve been teaching art classes and giving parties for over 10 years. I love working with kids. I’m a mom, and have also had my own daycare. I also come from a family of teachers. I get great satisfaction from seeing my students grow, both in their skill level and their understanding of the arts. I grew up in Hudson, NH and studied mainly in Boston. My educational experience includes a Bachelors of Fine Arts from Tufts University; a Fine Arts Diploma from the Museum School in Boston (5 yrs), and Certificates in Graphic Design and Web Design from schools in Manchester, NH. I have been a graphic design professional for over 18 years. I worked in the art department in MA working with digital files and preparing them for press. I have also worked in the theatre industry in Boston, which was fun and exciting. My other professional skills include scenic painting, oil painting and drawing, sign making, jewelry making, clay work, mosaic making, sewing and cake decorating. I would love to teach anyone who is interested in learning the skills to make beautiful works of art. I’m now offering After School Care Program, Summer Classes, art classes and private birthdays or other party options. Please contact me to discuss dates you’d like to plan an event. Our basic model works in two ways: Community classes for adults age 18 and up are run out of our Shawlands Language Nest, offered on a semester basis, in-person and online for a period of 10 weeks each time. These classes are bookable by individuals through our website here. The surplus revenue from these community classes cross-subsidise our work with older adults, including those living with dementia in care homes, community groups and day centres across Scotland. These care classes are only bookable in partnership with an organisation. The Language Nest A picture of students from our 2022 Summer Semester in the cosy Shawlands Language Nest! We run classes for adults of all ages in our very own Lingo Flamingo Language Nest, located in Shawlands, Glasgow, an area known for its vibrancy, diversity and strong sense of community. We still use the same sensory, stimulating techniques to make classes fun and accessible, but these classes are designed for those living without a dementia diagnosis from age 18 upwards. We also continue to emphasise the health benefits and show that language learning can be for everyone. All the money that is raised through the Language Nest gets put towards our work with older adults including those living with dementia. That’s to say, each and every penny of surplus revenue is used to cross-subsidise classes for older adults and those living with dementia across Scotland. As such, the Nest not only acts as a way to change perceptions of language learning, but as means to expand our social impact. It also means that any student joining our flock will not only gain from the benefits of language learning, but can feel good about having created a positive effect on society. Everyone’s a winner.

We started Progress in the Summer of 2012. The brand started in Manchester, England. We take great pride in being from Manchester and the city's culture and history influences a lot of our designs. James Tighe (a then blue belt) started the brand with his close friends and family, all of whom a decade later are still part of the company. We all shared one thing in common, an unbelievable passion for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. We fell in love with the sport and our dream was to one day quit our jobs and work on the brand full time, being involved with the Jiu Jitsu community, to help it grow as much as we could. This dream became our goal. The brand name perfectly represented how we felt about the sport, and us as people. It's all about the Progress you make. We put less emphasis on winning at all costs, and more on improvement. The Loughborough Junction Action Group (LJAG) is a volunteer-led social action charity that works to improve the environment of Loughborough Junction and the lives of the people who live and work here. It is our mission to make Loughborough Junction a great place to live and work. It was formed in 2008 following the murder of a young man, Andrew Pratt, in Southwell Road. Local residents in the road and surrounding streets came together to do something positive for their neighbourhood which they felt had been neglected for too long. LJAG works to achieve its mission through its projects which focus on community events, skill-sharing, greening, children’s activities and place-making. LJAG works to build a strong civic society in Loughborough Junction and has a record of involving volunteers across our diverse neighbourhood. LJAG’s fundraising activities have brought over £600,000 into Loughborough Junction and we have been instrumental in attracting over £3 million of public investment into the area. Over 13 years LJAG has delivered art projects which have improved a pedestrian alleyway under a railway bridge; run two street photography projects; launched an augmented reality app linked to the history of World War One; run community events including four street parties; health events; a community festival; run cycle maintenance classes; craft workshops; a mapping project; installed street planters and run community planting days. We have worked with Lambeth council on the production of the Loughborough Junction Plan and on public realm improvements and we facilitate monthly meetings of the Loughborough Junction Neighbourhood Forum. LJAG runs successful projects: Loughborough Farm, The Platform Cafe, Grove Adventure Playground, Craft Workshops and an informal social prescribing project, Wish You Were Here. Loughborough Farm is a successful community food growing project, where volunteers come together on Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday to grow vegetables and to socialise. The Loughborough Farm also has a successful outreach programme on two council estates and each summer delivers tomato plants and herbs to residents of the Loughborough Estate to grow on their balconies. The Farm is also responsible for the orchard in Wyck Gardens.

The London Suzuki Group ( LSG ) was founded in 1972 and was the first group in the United Kingdom to teach music by the Suzuki Method. With 60 qualified teachers and over 600 children currently receiving tuition, the LSG runs individual and group classes, orchestral and chamber music courses, workshops and an annual residential summer course at Bryanston School in Dorset. The group offers instruction in violin, viola, cello, piano, flute, recorder and voice. Public and private concerts are regularly organised at venues throughout London and elsewhere, providing much more than the opportunity to learn an instrument. Children and parents form lasting friendships. Parents and teachers are able to share experience and ideas. Music, and the love of music, becomes a natural part of the life of the whole family. Talent is not a prerequisite The Suzuki approach stimulates and develops musical abilities inherent in all children. Despite its sustained record of success exemplified in the many distinctions won by LSG students in music examinations, competitions and scholarships to major schools and conservatoires, the LSG’s overriding achievement is the provision of joy through music making, and the enrichment of the lives of the families involved in the learning process. Established in 2015, Arran Street East is a craft and design studio based in the markets area of Dublin city centre, where we make pottery and woven homewares to our own functional designs. We have a studio shop and we teach craft skills in Dublin and in Schull in West Cork. We use traditional crafting techniques to make and teach our craft, throwing on pottery wheels (pottery workshops), and weaving on looms and frame looms (weaving workshops). Each piece is individually made by hand using locally inspired colours and materials, and while our pottery and textiles are designed and made to mix and match, no two items are exactly the same.
