MAKE Southwest (formerly Devon Guild of Craftsmen) is an acclaimed exhibition space for contemporary craft and design as well as a leading charity for craft education. Located in Bovey Tracey on the edge of Dartmoor, our large galleries offer a great venue with inspiring exhibitions and events, encouraging people to support, make and learn about contemporary craft. MAKE Southwest was founded as Devon Guild of Craftsmen in 1955 by a small group of makers, led by Edward Baly, who were enthusiastic about the idea of promoting the best in regional craftwork. From 1956, and for the next 30 years, annual exhibitions at venues throughout South Devon were well received. In 1986 the organisation took the massive step of purchasing Riverside Mill. The building now houses a retail gallery and 3 exhibition galleries, which stage over 20 exhibitions throughout the year! In November 2021 the organisation changed its name to MAKE Southwest to more accurately represent their offering. MAKE Southwest is a registered charity with educational aims, and profits from its trading ventures help to subsidise this work, which includes the exhibition programme, projects in schools and community groups, lectures and training. Apart from a handful of items, the MAKE Southwest retail gallery sells only the work of its Members, while the exhibitions aim to show a broad range of the best craft from around the country.

All students will also take part in the annual show which is written specifically for the Raenbow students, thus giving all the opportunity to perform and enjoy the stage experience.

Inaura School is an independent, co-educational special school for pupils who have complex educational, social, emotional and mental health needs. The school has 3 education learning bases located in the county of Somerset. We provide student educational day placements for Somerset and the surrounding local authorities including: Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, Devon, North Somerset and Wiltshire. Our Key Stage 2-3 learning base is located in Wedmore. Our Centre for Outreach and Outdoor Learning is located near Godney, Wells while our two Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 learning bases are located in Burrowbridge and near Godney, Wells. All of our students have Education Health and Care Plans and are placed with us through their local authority SEND departments. We work with students who have encountered challenges in mainstream, pupil referral units and other special school settings. Many of our students have experienced failure in multiple educational settings. That is why we do things a little differently. Our approach encompasses a relational and non-coercive philosophy for teaching and learning. This philosophy focuses on building trust and systematically removing the barriers that pupils have previously encountered in their learning journeys.

We follow the structured examination syllabus of the Royal Academy of Dance and pupils are entered for examinations from Pre Primary to Advanced 2 level. However exams are not compulsory, importance is placed on enjoyment and appreciation of dance as a physical and expressive activity and art form. Body conditioning is incorporated into all classes from Grade 1 to Advanced 2 level. Contemporary Dance is also offered and considered an important part of the training of a classical dancer. The new Rambert Grades training program was introduced in 2020. Pupils are accepted into the school from 3 years of age and all are invited to take part in the school’s own production which is held approximately every two years at the Nottingham Playhouse. Having trained full-time at LCDD and taught in this country and abroad, Dawn and husband Jeremy moved to Italy to teach at Centro Internazionale di Danza in Cosenza. On return to UK they started Gedling Ballet School at the community centre on Shearing Hill in 1985, transferring to its present home at the Memorial Hall in 1986. Both of their daughters, Sarah and Susie, progressed from Gedling Ballet School to train full-time at the Royal Ballet School (White Lodge) and at Elmhurst Assoc. School of Birmingham Royal Ballet. Alongside a passion for dance and teaching at Gedling Ballet School, Dawn trained at Nottingham University as a Physiotherapist and worked within the NHS for a number of years. Dawn attends training events held by the RAD and Royal Ballet School and has completed the Royal Ballet School Inspire Series 1 and the first seminar of Inspire To Be Series 2. A former member of the RAD committee for the Midlands and East of England region and awarded life membership of the RAD in 2020 after 42 years of membership. Susie King Former pupil of Gedling Ballet School, performed with Birmingham Royal Ballet in a number of productions notably as young Morgan le Fay in the Ballet 'Arthur' at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and on UK tour with BRB. A Royal Ballet Associate student Susie at age 14 accepted a scholarship place at Elmhurst Assoc. School of Birmingham Royal Ballet, and then completed her training at Rambert School of Ballet & Contemporary Dance, BA (Hons) followed by Rambert MA. Professional work includes Ballet Theatre UK, Ampersandance, Royal Shakespeare Company and Medea with English National Opera at the London Coliseum. Former ballet coach at the National Ice Arena and dance teacher at NCN, Susie now also teaches for dance schools based in London and Watford. Susie is a qualified and registered teacher with the RAD and BBO Dance, and is a member of the new Rambert Grades training programme (Rambert Grades is accredited by The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulations Ofqual). Nature of the school and location Oldfield School is a successful, high attaining 11-18 mixed comprehensive with 1250 students located in the historic city of Bath. The school campus is on the outskirts of the north-west of the city and we benefit from a large, semi-rural setting with excellent transport links for students and staff. The school has an attractive, open and dispersed site. A notable feature is the location of teaching rooms and our Sixth Form in Penn House, an 18th century Georgian manor house. Our school has an excellent reputation locally and in the wider community for academic excellence and the quality of pastoral care and support. The school has with a comprehensive intake which reflects the diversity of the local community. The most recent Ofsted inspection was in January 2020, when the school was judged to be good in all areas. A feature of the inspection report was the inclusive nature of the school and the sense of community felt by staff and students. Inspectors commented that staff were overwhelmingly positive about the support that they receive from leaders and on how friendly and welcoming the school is for staff. Oldfield is a school where staff development is an essential feature. The teaching and support staff at the school are an excellent team who work well together to provide opportunities for students to achieve or exceed their potential. The needs of our students are paramount and this is recognised by all staff, who have a common view that only the best is good enough. We have a commitment to sharing good practice in developing leaders, teachers and support staff. The school has a successful and popular Sixth Form of 190 students. We offer a wide range of A Level courses and opportunities for our sixth form students and all faculties offer A Level courses. A Level classes are relatively small, which provides a personalised learning experience for our students. Curriculum The curriculum for Key Stage 3 follows the National Curriculum. Students study either Spanish or French throughout Key Stage 3 with the more able studying both languages. A wide range of courses additional to the core subjects are offered at Key Stage 4. Students are encouraged to study humanities and languages and the great majority do so. There is setting in ability groups in Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 where appropriate. Almost all Key Stage 4 examination entries are GCSEs, Year 10 and 11 students typically study 9/10 GCSEs. Subjects are organised in six learning areas with the Leaders of Learning line-managed by the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). Pastoral Care Students remain in the same tutor group throughout their school career. The Heads of Year are responsible for the pastoral care of around 200-224 students from Years 7 to 11. The pastoral leaders are supported and line managed by a member of the SLT. We also have a House system to encourage a sense of community. The four houses are led by a Head of House and there are regular inter-house competitions and fund raising events. Resources and Accommodation The provision of high quality resources is a priority for the school. There are specialist teaching rooms for all subjects and most teachers have their own teaching room. ICT facilities are excellent with specialist ICT teaching rooms as well as comprehensive ICT facilities in many general teaching rooms. The school is very well maintained, ensuring that learning spaces of the highest possible standard are a priority. Oldfield School is a fantastic place to work. Students are keen and helpful and staff are enthusiastic and dedicated to bringing about the highest quality learning outcomes for our students.
