streetbikes via city connect
Two-thirds of journeys made by West Yorkshire residents are under five miles,
yet according to data from the last census, although 11% of journeys to work are
already made on foot, just 1.3% are by bike. From the outset our focus has been
on putting people at the heart of everything we do – opening up access to
cycling and walking routes, helping residents overcome barriers and connecting
communities with opportunities for work, training and leisure. Communities
across West Yorkshire and York are seeing the benefits of new, high quality
cycling and walking infrastructure, including Bradford’s Canal Road Cycleway,
Leeds’s City Centre Cycle Superhighway, the Castleford Wakefield Greenway, a
series of canal towpath upgrades in Bradford, Kirklees and Calderdale, and
Scarborough Bridge, York. We’re not only building new cycling and walking routes
and improving existing infrastructure, we also offer a range of free services,
including free adult cycle training and support for businesses, schools and
grassroots initiatives to boost the number of people travelling by bike or on
foot.
