girlguiding north east
Girlguiding North East England is just one part of Girlguiding, an organisation
of half a million girls and women, which in turn is part of the huge global
organisation, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, which has
ten million members. With over 56,000 members in our region spread across 17
counties, we are proud of the fantastic guiding opportunities we offer girls and
young women. Our dedicated volunteers support our young members to grow in
confidence, speak out and challenge themselves whilst helping them learn skills
for life and make a positive contribution to their community and the wider
world. Volunteers are provided with invaluable training and resources to provide
a safe and fun environment for girls and young women to be themselves. ur region
spans from the Scottish border in the North to Sheffield in the South,
stretching from Spurn Point in the East to Ingleton on the border of Cumbria,
encompassing the magnificent North Yorkshire Moors and Yorkshire Dales in
between. We are home to the Roman landmark Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland,
York Minster the largest Gothic cathedral in Europe, beautiful coastal areas as
well as vibrant cities like Leeds and Sheffield. Our region is split into areas
that we refer to as Counties. Each county is run by a lead volunteer who is a
County Commissioner.
