Quarter Derby

Businesses in the Southern and Western areas of Bracknell voted in favour of plans to set up a Business Improvement District (BID) to run from 1st April 2020 – 31st March 2025. The positive ballot result follows 18 months of planning, in-depth interviews, surveys and workshops and a month-long ballot in which businesses in the area were asked to vote on the proposals. 63% of votes cast voted in favour of the BID by total number of businesses, and 88% of votes cast voted in favour of the BID by Rateable Value. As a result of the yes vote, the Bracknell Business Improvement District (BID) started on 1st April 2020. Businesses with a rateable value of £12,001 or above will pay a levy based upon their rateable value, creating a collective fund of more than £3 million to spend over the next five years. The plans were driven by a steering group of business representatives from across the area, who have now formed the Bracknell Investment Group Ltd. This is the company that will manage the BID. Bracknell BID is governed by a board of directors of the Bracknell Investment Group. The BID Board consists of representatives from all sectors within the BID area to ensure balanced representation. Directors are volunteers from businesses and partner organisations who give up their time for free. They are supported by Partnerships for Better Business Ltd, who develop and deliver Business Improvement Districts across the country.

Background The Bassetlaw Action Centre was established as a Manpower Services Commission project in 1983 and was transferred to Bassetlaw Community and Voluntary Service in 1989, who managed the project until it became an independent registered charity in April 1996. From 1989 it has been funded by a number of organisations including, Bassetlaw CCG, Lloyds Bank Foundation, Bassetlaw District Council and Nottinghamshire County Council as a Community Resource, Information, Training and Advice Centre for Bassetlaw. In 1996 the charity consisted of 1.2 full time equivalent staff members and 8 volunteers with 1 significant work stream – the Community Car Scheme. It was also an established local resource agency and training centre offering courses on touch typing for example. As the organisation grew, it developed into an organisation serving the whole of Bassetlaw (hence the name change in 2011 when it became a limited company but retaining its charity status). The Bassetlaw Action Centre today has grown into a major service delivery organisation in the district with 25 staff members and over 80 volunteers. It has many distinct areas of work, including a very well used training resource which offers basic skills training and a range of IT courses from beginners through to advanced. The majority of the work streams of the Action Centre exist to promote the independence of older and vulnerable people including support for people with long term conditions, people with housing issues, self-help groups and people with transport needs.

The international student recruitment market for UK Boarding Schools is huge, exciting and full of opportunity however, along with all the greatness comes complexity, risk and uncertainty. UKAcademia, was formed to create an understanding of the student recruitment market, particularly focusing on schooling applications and, in turn, to simplify this process for our clients. We are one of the most trusted and unique providers in the industry who have partnered with associations worldwide and create opportunities for young people, ensuring that their journey from start to finish is a smooth one. Our partner UK Boarding Schools are carefully selected so that we can give all families a wide range of choices whether it concerns academic ability, affordability or simply a 'try before you buy' approach. Since being founded in 2012, we have placed over 150 students into boarding schools for many long-term courses and have in-turn supported schools with their recruitment and international development agendas. Today, we have expanded to recruiting and supporting families from over 15 countries and have now opened offices in Thailand, India and Hong Kong. Our Headquarters remain in the UK. Whilst recruiting for top schools from 15 different countries, we took time to really understand the process and explore any challenges so that we can create solutions as well as make the process less daunting. The two major components are schools and international students, and here is an overview of what we discovered:
