At the Apex Centre we are now providing practical, hands-on courses for students from Park Community School and a variety of other schools in the area and beyond. Our aim is to give students the opportunity to learn a whole range of construction skills, whilst ensuring that curriculum requirements are met. This has been possible because Park Community Enterprises Ltd have leased facilities named The Apex Centre, to accommodate this. This Centre is situated to the north east of the central shopping district of Leigh Park and is within fifteen minutes walking distance from Park Community School. It is within the school’s catchment area. The Apex Centre is just two minutes walk from the industrial unit we already lease.

Richard & Leila both studied music at Trinity Laban, London and have taught music students of all levels and ages. It is are main aim to make lessons as enjoyable as possible whilst giving a solid musical foundation. Richard has extensive experience teaching piano as well as classical, electric, bass and acoustic guitar lessons in primary and secondary schools (state & independent) as well as teaching students at college level. He has also run many ensembles and regularly prepares students for practical examinations in classical & pop. Leila is a very experienced instrumental teacher who has had a private teaching practice for many years. She has teaches a wide variety of instruments and has taught in both primary & secondary schools. Leila is also an experienced orchestral player & accompanist.

Having grown up sailing dinghies and yachts, Robin joined the Merchant Navy from school and soon became a Navigating Officer on general cargo ships trading to all parts of the globe. Coming ashore, Robin’s varied but essentially marine career, took him through marine electronics, HM Coastguard and Harbour Master. Entering a sort of semi-retirement in 2014 he and his wife, Teresa, cruised their own boat to the east coast of Sweden. Since then, Robin has enjoyed instructing RYA practical and shorebased courses. “Improving nautical skills is of course hugely important,” Robin says, “but I also like to get across the ‘essence’ of life onboard a boat – to experience and appreciate the marine environment around us”. Keith Profile Keith Miller RYA Yachtmaster Instructor Keith has over 20 years boating experience in both motor and sail. He is a RYA Yachtmaster Instructor and also has teaching qualifications for power boats and VHF radio. He has 3 Fastnet races to his name as well as a number of round Britain cruises, all as skipper. He has worked on the East Coast as an instructor for more than 10 years, as well as spending several seasons in Malaysia with Langkawi Sailing School. Keith is also a senior martial arts instructor for adults and children, and a founder member of the South Eastern Taekwando group. Asked why he does what he does Keith says ‘I just get a huge buzz from passing on my love of sailing to others, and helping them to develop their skills and experience.’

Founded in 2018, the Ayrshire Women’s Hub is a community interest company that focuses on supporting women and families. We work with women and families across Ayrshire who face hardships such as social isolation and loneliness, homelessness, sexual exploitation, abuse, addictions, mental and physical health problems, long-term unemployment, poverty and more. Our mission is to promote positive change and provide solutions that make a lasting impact within the community of Ayrshire. We provide a warm, friendly, safe environment, where women and families can come to get support, socialise, make friends and help empower each other through our workshops and group activities. In the three years that we have been providing our services we have helped assist thousands of vulnerable women and their families. Our highly trained team of support workers, community engagement officers and training and prevention coordinators bring a wealth of knowledge from various areas of health and social care and community learning and development. We deliver a holistic approach and work collaboratively with other services and organisations throughout Ayrshire to help achieve positive outcomes for our service users.
