Through improvisation you will develop a scene to support your work over the week as you progress through a journey of taking a performance from theatre to screen, supported by a range of immersive techniques and critical direction from the tutors. Sue Dunderdale Director Sue Dunderdale has an impressive background in the world of Theatre, Film and TV Directing. The Art of Cinematic Performance As the two tutors come together mid-week, Carolyn and Sue will allocate scenes from screenplays for you to work on and film to self-critically view in the pursuit of understanding the process as an actor. In the final two days, whilst rehearsing the scenes, Sue will focus on the life within the character that creates the tension/conflict in the scene. Discovering with you that it is important to know the lines of the scene so well that they can become the least part of the work. It is what lies beneath the lines that creates the quality of the performance and makes for interest on camera. Over the 5 Days you will learn the importance of sub-text, and how it supports the written text. Through intricate analysis and breakdowns, life experience, knowledge and exterior impacts will be explored to inject life into scenes and enable real thoughts and emotions in a character. These techniques can be applied in any role, big or small and enhance your capabilities in an actor when asked to self-tape or audition, giving you a more dynamic skillset often looked for by Casting Directors. In this private workshop, you'll learn the basics of knitting using a vintage knitting machine to create wearable textiles.  🧶What is machine knitting & who invented it?  The knitting machine was invented by Englishman William Lee in 1589 to make stockings. it's a very small manual machine that enables the maker to create fine, fast knitting. Machine knitting was one of the first major stages in the textile industry that led to the Industrial Revolution. It’s still in use today but unfortunately, it’s become a forgotten craft! So we’re here to bring it back! During this creative and therapeutic class your teacher Valeria will guide you through designing and making your own knitted artwork. You'll learn how to use the vintage knitting ‘machine’ and listen to the wonderful sound it produces as the needles move. The process of machine knitting enables you to have full control over your design. Many people find machine knitting therapeutic and relaxing as you can watch and listen to your artwork come to life. Not only that the results look like those of an expert (even for absolute beginners). 🧶What can you make? It’s smooth, quick performance is perfect for making a range of knits – from home accessories to stylish garments - knit long trendy scarves, and quirky tote bags in under 3 hours… Smaller items only take minutes to do. An inspiring practical day learning textiles skills with textiles artist Nikki Parmenter.

Join artist Julie Galante for an afternoon of homemade botanical inks made from foraged plants and kitchen scraps. In 2023 Julie dove into ink-making, producing more than 300 inks from over 100 different botanical sources. In this three-hour workshop, Julie will share what she’s learned from all these inky experiments, giving you the skills and knowledge to create your own library of botanical colours. She'll share her core learnings, including the best ways to extract colours, the best plants to use, and how to preserve and store your inks. We'll also cover different ways of finishing your inks depending on how you'd like to use them. Please note this workshop will take place in Julie's Stockbridge studio, which is accessible via three flights of stairs. We will also spend part of the workshop foraging outside, weather permitting, so please dress accordingly. Tea and coffee will be provided.
