Swimming has always been a part of my life. My mum was a swimming teacher so taught me from a very young age. She also introduced me to the open water side over a decade ago and I was instantly hooked. I love everything about being in the open water; from seeking out quick dips in beautiful wild places, to pushing my limits over distance or in races, to swapping stories over steaming mugs of post-swim hot chocolate. I also love triathlon and have been lucky enough to stand on the podium a number of times as well as competing in five age group World Championship races, with a best place finish of 4th. I’m an STA Level 2 Open Water Swimming Coach and Swimming Teacher, a Mountain Leader, and an RLSS Beach Lifeguard. I also have degrees in Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience and Translational Neuroscience, and a keen interest in performance psychology and exercise for mental health and rehabilitation. I set up Swim Snowdonia to reflect my personal values and passion for all aspects of swimming. To showcase the many incredible and diverse wild swimming locations in North Wales. To provide a safe, supportive and fun environment for swimmers to improve their confidence and proficiency. To deliver high quality coaching to those wishing to improve technique, speed, strength, and endurance. And, to cultivate a protective instinct for the environment by demonstrating its wonder, worth and fragility.

Think of the thing that makes you most happy. When you see it or get involved in it, you light up. That is what creating art does for me. The different commissions I have undertaken have taken me on journeys I might not have otherwise gone on. Connecting with the client and finding out about the reason, motivation and need for the commission sparks all kinds of ideas. My personal art practice often includes playing with a variety of art materials. Whether it's using gouache, creating digital illustrations, using ink and bamboo or cutting into cardboard envelopes to create a scene, there is always some new way to use these materials to express an idea. Biography Originally from the American Midwest, I trained as a Fine Art major, minoring in Art Education. I currently work in Edinburgh as both an artist and an art teacher of young children. All of my art lessons incorporate Art History and the creation of artworks inspired by the work of specific artists or even just a single work by an individual. My professional practice focuses on drawing people, architecture and creating pieces using a variety of art materials. My work has been exhibited throughout the UK and USA, notably the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh and the Barbican Artists Studios in London. I divide my work time between creating illustration pieces for various corporate and private clients and teaching children and adults.

Gordon House Education Consultancy (GHEC) Ltd was set up in 2007. We have over 40 years’ experience of working as a teacher, education officer, education adviser in Ministries of Education and consultant in the UK (mostly London) and overseas. This unique breadth of experience and expertise means that GHEC has a wealth of knowledge to draw on when undertaking independent investigations which is the area of work we now focus on. Over the past 10 years we have conducted over 50 investigations. Serious incidents are fortunately not a daily occurrence in schools but when they do happen and allegations or serious concerns need to be investigated, they can take up huge amounts of time, resources and emotional energy; very often the school staff asked to undertake investigations have little experience of what might be required. When, on those rare occasions, an independent investigation is needed, we offer a highly effective, efficient, thorough and discreet service. In addition we have come to realise that there are very few independent investigators available with our level of understanding about schools (and how they work). In recent years GHEC has undertaken a wide range of school-based investigations including: whistle-blowing grievance disciplinary parental complaint capability fraud bullying All have achieved a satisfactory outcome, enabling those involved to move on. I studied Art & Design at Falmouth Art School and then took a degree in Graphic Design & Illustration at Southampton Solent University. I now work as a product developer for a large, international jewellery manufacturer. Most of the work is commercial and not particularly creative. So as a creative outlet I enjoy many craft hobbies such as crochet, knitting and sewing and occasional a bit of illustration. It all started a long time ago… I moved to Germany when I was two and was put into the local kindergarten. I couldn’t speak a word of German, however the teacher, Frau Pfenning began my integration by teaching me to knit – purely by demonstration. When I came back to the UK aged nine, my mother taught me basic crochet and I became adept at making dolls’ clothes using only single crochet – discovering I could shape garments using increases and decreases. She also influenced my knitting style – I am a “pit knitter”, as was her grandmother. As an adult, I didn’t rediscover crochet and knitting until my early thirties – 10 years on and my hobbies have become my passion.
