Lorna Pilates Sheffield

lorna pilates sheffield

My background is nursing having worked as an Emergency Nurse Practitioner in the Emergency department for many years, formally working as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in a GP surgery. I am passionate about helping people become well and whole, to live life to their full potential. My career took a change of course when I trained to become a Body Control Pilates teacher, after a number of years of personal experience in Body Control Pilates, which I started after advice from a physiotherapist. I have appreciated the benefit of Pilates for my own health as well as improved performance in the sport I do - climbing, mountain biking, skiing. Through Pilates and working with those with PoTS and Long-COVID, I wanted to learn more about breathing, and realised the benefit of breathing well has on our health and wellbeing. For a long time I have been aware of the mind-body connection and the influence of stress (current, past and personality types) have on our body. I am now trained as a Stress Induced Recovery Practitioner working with those with stress induced symptoms. Movement and breathing and acknowledging the impact of stress on our body, will help calm our nervous system. I have a specific interest in those with Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (PoTS), Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD) and Hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (hEDS), Myalgic encephalomyelitis or chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), Long-COVID and any other chronic health conditions.

London

where the assumption that human culture is primarily visual is challenged until it dissolves, along with the entwined racism, patriarchy, misogyny, homophobic bullshit, other limiting beliefs and destructive economic systems …where the assumption that VR is a predominantly visual medium, not “for” or “by” visually impaired participants, is kicked to the kerb. Help us course correct the development of this critical mode in which our future selves will live, work, love, play. …where accessibility techniques such as audio description extend deep into the richer reaches of art forms and cultural identities …. where audio describers are not afraid to describe the weird and the wonderful, and who have the cultural insight to respectfully describe any human being …where creation tools, arts education and access are provided to ensure equal access for all those who are otherwise excluded or disadvantaged by a disability …where Burning Man art, culture, and event information is accessible to visually impaired participants. … where visually impaired participants can navigate physical and digital Burning Man experiences independently or with easy, on-demand assistance. … where visually impaired participants and other excluded Burners are able to make the same independent choices as sighted participants. …where those who are blind and deaf are not forgotten, and are embraced as creators too … where all this is considered foundational to Burning Man culture. In short, a world built for all of us. It is something we see, and with your help will make real.

Cambridge Marketing College

I found the whole organisation, content and quality to be exceptionally high. The coursework was challenging (especially balancing with a demanding full time job!) but provided great insight to enable me to take the next steps in my career. The tutors were also very helpful indeed. CMC Professional Services Alumnus The students and teachers of the CIPR qualifications at Cambridge Marketing College are to be congratulated. A 100% pass rate is a real achievement and testament to everyone’s hard work and the quality of the teaching and students. Congratulations once again from all at the CIPR. Elisabeth Lewis-Jones Then CIPR President, CIPR Thank you for a very informative and useful day. Kelly Barford Marketing Communications Team Leader , LGC Group I just want to take this opportunity to thank you again for your guidance throughout this module - I was initially overwhelmed but the combination of real life examples, discussion and application of theory has made everything much clearer and very interesting! Your advice has much been appreciated. Imogen Varma Professional Diploma, Student The advanced certificate has given me a fantastic grounding in PR. It is really important to understand the theory and history behind PR practice whilst in the early stages of your career, and the Advanced Certificate was the perfect vehicle to do so. The level of support received from my tutor and course leader was exceptional and it has been a truly rewarding experience that will no doubt benefit me in the future.

Creative Resilience International

Barcelona

I am passionate about resilience and helping people understand how important resilience is in our lives. I studied with some of the leading international experts working to promote resilience. For the last 5 years I have been actively promoting resilience with individuals, families, organisations and communities. I had spent many years working in the field of positive psychology and therapy and it was here in Barcelona that I discovered the world of resilience and was lucky enough to attend the first post graduate course in the Promotion of Resilience at the University of Barcelona. This allowed me to meet and learn from leading figures in Resilience work in Europe and Latin America and the most generous teachers. I also studied a postgraduate diploma in mental health and migration. Moving around can bring opportunity but also challenges. I have lived in many countries and met a lot of diverse and truly inspiring people in different cultures and languages. Living an international life can feel like an amazing adventure but also comes with its challenges and I have worked with many individuals and families over the years helping them to find their feet again. Life experience, literature, music and films have always fed my resilience work but I have been studying and researching along the way to back up my instincts with analysis and ideas based on theory and practice. Here you can read some of my research in English and Spanish.

Alexandrabaer

alexandrabaer

Alexandra was born in the USA and spent her formative years in London and Glasgow. Her musical abilities were recognised from a very young age and she began having regular piano and vocal lessons at the age of four. Alexandra had the honour of being the youngest singing student to be accepted at the prestigious Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London. Whilst studying there, she benefited from singing lessons, vocal workshops and master-classes with both formidable voice teachers and visiting leading professionals. This early exposure to such a high standard of coaching was a great source of inspiration for an aspiring young soprano. Alexandra was invited to attend the Association Of Teachers Of Singing training course for four consecutive years, which provided her with a solid foundation for developing her own teaching technique which she loves to share in her own teaching lessons. Having always had a special love of Scotland, it seemed to be a natural progression for her to complete her studies at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, Glasgow (now known as The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) where Alexandra was awarded her Bachelor of Music with Honours Degree. Now based in Central Scotland and accessible from Falkirk, Stirling, Glasgow amd Edinburgh, Alexandra enjoys working as a freelance singer (soprano) and singing teacher. She is currently delighted to be working with Music in Hospitals and Care (MiHC) with whom she has regular concert engagements and tours.
