Alchemilla Apothecary

alchemilla apothecary

Saint Mawgan

Alchemilla is a modern herbal wellness clinic located on the beautiful Cornish coast. I offer high-quality products and services which celebrate plants and herbal traditions from around the world and across the ages. One of the main aims of the apothecary is to revive the role of the traditional herbalist, skilled in the preparation and dispensing of tried and trusted remedies. Just as we expect our food to be grown with love and care, so should we expect the same from our medicines and those who create them. “Where do your medicines come from?” I stock a range herbal tinctures, syrups and teas, all have been handpicked for their high-quality ingredients and environmentally friendly ethos. Products manufactured here in the apothecary carry the HerbMark logo which shows they have been created by a practitioner trained in the manufacture of herbal medicines. You can read more about HerbMark and what it means here, and visit the herb shop here. Alchemilla was created with the aim of protecting and sharing herbal knowledge so that it can be passed onto future generations. I’m a writer at heart, and thoroughly enjoy curating content to help encourage more people to rediscover the joy of herbs. I write widely about home medicine making skills in my newsletter, and have also written a number of articles which have been published in a variety of journals and magazines. I also offer online and in person herbal consultations. Click here to read more about my services or feel fee to send an email to sarah@alchemilla.co to book a “hello” call. WHAT QUALIFIES ME TO HELP YOU? I spent five years studying herbal medicine and naturopathic practice at the College of Naturopathic Medicine at Regent’s College London. During this time I researched and wrote about a wide range of topics which prepared me well for my service as an herbalist. This included: Phytochemistry (the chemical structure of plants and what effects these substances have on the human body) Ethnobotany – the scientific study of the traditional knowledge and customs of a people concerning plants and their medical, religious, and other uses Wild-crafting and gardening, growing plants from seed and learning to identify plants in the wild Formulation and preparation of botanical medicines. The intricate art of prescribing and preparing herbal medicines for use Iridology, Chinese tongue diagnosis, naturopathic cleansing, and holistic nutrition In addition to my studies, I also completed 500+ hours of clinical practice working in a variety of diverse herbal clinics and dispensaries across the UK. Every year, as part of my practice and commitment to my profession, I undergo additional professional training to ensure I’m always up to speed with any new developments in the herbal world. You can learn more about the standards of proficiency required to become a registered practitioner on the EHPTA (European Herbal & Traditional Medicine Practitioners Association) website. Kirsty Brown Fitness for Life

kirsty brown fitness for life

My approach is realistic, practical and always comes with empathy and understanding. We will work together to set realistic goals and develop a plan that is achievable for you. Find out why I'm so passionate about helping women create a healthy lifestyle .... I'm Kirsty, a 52 year old who has been working in the health and fitness industry for over 30 years. Having been a keen sportsperson from a young age, I know first-hand what exercise has done for me in my life. This helped develop my passion for helping others to learn the benefits of exercise for themselves. As a mum of two boys who has lived through divorce, car accidents, broken ribs, a gall bladder operation, heart palpitations and a prolapsed disk, my life has certainly had its ups and downs. As a working mum, I have juggled bringing up my boys with both full and part-time employment, whilst using evenings and weekends to set up my private fitness business, teach classes and support women. So I know what it’s like to be a busy woman …. What I have learnt…. How our life’s journey affects our health, the impact of life’s pressures and just being a busy mum. We often find it is hard to put ourselves first, but neglecting our own health and wellbeing can cause weight gain, reduce energy levels, affect sleep and how we cope with stress. This can eventually lead to low self-esteem, anxiety and depression. While recovering from various illnesses and injuries, I have learnt that planning, preparation and determination are essential. It is this positive mindset that I'd like to pass on to my clients. What I can do for you…. Sometimes we need to take stock of where we are, what we want to achieve and set goals to help us take control of our future. I can help you understand how to achieve your goals and appreciate what changes you need to make. I can guide you to take manageable steps towards lifestyle changes and overcome barriers that may have prevented you from achieving things in the past. I have developed a passion for women’s health from pre & post-natal exercise to menopause and older women. As I started the menopause early and have tried a variety of methods to relieve the symptoms including HRT, I wanted to learn more about the effects of menopause on women. By understanding what happens to our bodies on an almost scientific bases I begun to realise how menopause has such an impact on so many aspects of our minds and bodies. It has become such an interesting journey learning more about menopause and how we need to change the way we eat, exercise, sleep, deal with stress and so much more. I am continually learning and researching women’s health. Every time I do a course one of the groups will ask another new question and I will do my best to go away and find out an answer if I do not know it myself. This us how I will learn with you. We will celebrate wins however small, recognising achievements can help us visualise the end goal and that it is reachable. Working flexibly to find exercise that you like, foods you enjoy and habits that are sustainable. Let’s do this … my aim is to create a healthy lifestyle together.

Fylde Coast Scitt

fylde coast scitt

Old Road

Train to teach with us on the Fylde Coast or in Liverpool. You can use the buttons below to view/download our information leaflet and submit your application via the Government Apply Service which is now Open! Firstly, our programmes are completely personalised to each candidate; no two people have the same experience because we only train between 20 and 30 trainees each year. Unlike the big university models where you would be one of 200 trainee teachers, we tailor the year to maximise your skills and you will therefore be better prepared to teach. We have our own supportive SCITT community, our own wellbeing programme and our own life coach. Secondly, because our trainees don’t have to attend University lectures, we have time to give them a bespoke enhancement programme running alongside the mainstream school placements. Our secondary trainees have the opportunity to teach in primary schools, pupil referral units, Special Educational Needs settings, work with CAHMS and teach in Sixth Forms. They also spend time at our local private schools to teach children with English as an additional language. Again, trainee curriculum design is tailored to maximise preparation. Thirdly, our programmes are competitively priced because we know graduates are already carrying huge university debts. We charge £7705 for QTS, as opposed to £9000, but we also give a free qualification for secondary trainees in addition to QTS so they leave as qualified Teachers of the PSHE Association [Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education]. This gives them an edge over other candidates when applying for jobs, and fully prepares them for teaching beyond the curriculum and preparing their pupils for life in modern Britain.
