Stockport

Hi I’m David AKA Yoga Dave, a yoga teacher in Stockport, Greater Manchester, UK. I’ve been practicing yoga and meditation for over 20 years and teaching for the past decade. When I first started doing yoga I had tight hamstrings, lower back issues and I was stressed, looking for a way to relax. Yoga and meditation really helped me in all these areas. And it opened my mind to other weird and wonderful practices like Shamanic Healing for Power and Soul Retrieval. Thinking about trying yoga and meditation for the first time? The first thing that people tell me when they come to their first class or one-to-one session is that they are the least flexible person ever and / or they are stressed out. After the first session they tell me how relaxed and energised they feel and how well they slept that night. Over time, flexibility and strength improves and they feel more relaxed generally. People also say that the sessions are fun because although I do serious yoga, we don’t have to be precious about it. Here’s my epiphany after reading loads of yoga philosophy, religious text and self-help books looking for answers: the main thing is to live a relaxed life. Yoga offers a tool bag full of ways to help keep the mind and body relaxed. Stresses will come – that’s life – but you’ll find that you will be able to cope with them much more effectively. Get in touch to find out more about live classes, one-to-one and online sessions, I’d love to hear from you and see if there is any way I can help.

Mortar Learning

Tunbridge Wells

The teacher-student relationship exists largely under the not-for-profit umbrella, but there are still a few industries out there that profit (comfortably) from it. Unfortunately, the ESL/EFL industry (loaded with for-profit companies that combine for a net worth of billions) sits at the edge of a social movement waiting to burst. At Mortar Learning, we imagine a world where English as a Secondary/Foreign Language is no longer for-profit. Thanks to our years of experience, we’ve created a system geared towards giving teachers and students highly efficient ways to teach/learn while reminding them that they’re not just a nameless number in the corporate machine. We do this by giving them 100% of the profits. That’s right! Our teachers receive every dime we make in profits. As a student, imagine learning a language and every time you took a class, spoke with a language partner, or updated your friends on what you’d learned, your teacher was given a percentage of the profits of a multi-million dollar company? As a teacher, imagine finally feeling like you work for a company that cares and supports you? Finally, imagine a world where everyone can communicate using the same language. English is already the language of money and travel. Like mortar, English binds us together, allowing us to learn and understand different cultures and people. If you’re someone who wants to create change on a truly massive scale, then please reach out! Help us shift perceptions surrounding for-profit education. Help us empower students and teachers. Help us pull the world together through language. Let's create a new standard in nonprofit.

Play Academy

Leeds

Hi there! I’m Karen Holmes, manager and owner of Play Academy. In the Summer of 2019, my life took a huge, exciting turn when I took on this wonderful club. Up until then, I had spent 20 years as a very happy & successful Primary School teacher. During my time as a teacher, I had the pleasure of working with many, many children across the primary age range. I also trained as a student mentor and worked alongside trainee teachers supporting & developing practice. In addition to this I was also responsible for the PSHE curriculum across the whole school, an area I am still massively passionate about. Whilst building my career as an educator, I was also bringing up my two gorgeous sons Toby & Zach. Because I was juggling being a mum with being a teacher, I fully understand the desire parents have for quality wrap around care for children; it’s something my husband and I accessed for our two lovely boys during their primary years. As my career progressed and opportunities were being put in front of me, I paused for a bit and realised that teaching was no longer for me. I was spending less and less time doing the things that had steered me into teaching in the first place; planning, creating & facilitating new and fun quality experiences for children. I wanted to get back to just having ‘fun’ with little people, blowing bubbles, building dens, playing boards games, enjoying the outdoors and most of all…….laughing! To allow children a comfortable, home from home space to practise being good citizens, develop key life skills and master the art of a two way conversation.
