It is always good to understand certain aspects of country’s culture and customs before going there. You will avoid being surprized or embarassed in that way. Here are the most interesting Polish customs which is good to be familiar with: Curious people Polish people are very curious towards international visitors. They are very much interested in different cultures, however if you only look back – nothing has happened 😉 Shaking hands It is very Polish to shake hands when you introduce yourself. YOu do it always with your right, bare hand. It is considered impolite if you do it in a glove. Keeping an eye contact When speaking to someone, keep an eye contact for most of the time. It is not necessary to keep it all the time. If you do not, you might not get what you want. Personal questions It is quite common in Poland to be asked questions which are often considered as private. As Poles are curious people, they like to get into little details, so do not forget to be assertive. Meal schedule Food in Poland is often fat and served with meat. Soups are very popular and offer a great variety of types & tastes. Typically in Poland people eat 3 times a day. Bruderszaft It is a fraternal toast, after which Polish people start to address each other with first names, and declining it can be seen as an insult. Relationships become more cordial after this little ceremony. Bruderszaft is two people raising toasts simultaneously with arms interlocked and drinking. The last part is an exchange of kisses and a handshake.

They’ve shared their story below: Having struggled in the past to decide which independent school was right for our two children, we took interest in finding out what really makes a good school for a child, how exactly one can make that judgement and subsequently make the right decision. We could remember the sad feeling that enveloped us when a prep school we desperately wanted our first child to attend declined to offer him a place. We asked so many questions but no clear answer, which led to many more questions. At that point all we focused on was how beautiful the facilities of the school was and their outstanding academic performance but did not even stop to ask if our son would thrive in that environment. We went back to the drawing board and by acknowledging our child's strengths and weaknesses, we were able to place him in the environment that not only helped him develop but also to thrive. Here in the UK, we have world class boarding schools that people yearly apply to attend. This can pose a huge challenge for parents and young people when deciding. Do you go for the "good" school but not necessarily the right place for your child or you place your child where they'll thrive but the school is not at the top of the league table? I qualified as an infant massage teacher in 2016 and extended my qualifications to deliver yoga, sign and messy craft sessions. I juggle this with being a mother to my daughter. Before taking time off to have my daughter, I worked as a teacher and Head of Department in a Secondary school for almost 9 years within; Health and Social Care and Nutrition, at GCSE and A Level. During the first year of motherhood I was diagnosed with postnatal depression, which was a little bit of a shock. I had no idea about it, had never heard of it, didn't know how I would be treated and helped along and I had hundreds of questions. Eventually once I was able to find the correct support for me, things improved and I felt safe. My whole experience as a first time mum suffering postnatal depression led me down this path. I was keen to help and support other parents and carers, creating fun sessions for all who attend, to support all individually who attend, in all aspects of health. Making individuals feel safe, supported and cared for whilst enjoying fun and engaging sessions. The thing I love about baby massage and yoga, is the way it can help new parents build or enhance that bond with their new born and it is very instant - I can literally see it happen before my eyes, and this is a very special time. I love the way all of our sessions helps both parent or carer and the child. It is so wonderful to see all who attend go one a journey. Giving individuals the skills, the confidence and self-esteem to re-create sessions at home. I hold the Touch Learn International Qualification in Infant Massage, Baby Yoga and Baby Signing and a full and valid first aid certificate as well as a yearly updated DBS

Below are answers to the most frequently asked questions we receive from parents of our new students: * We are a professional organisation and as such are the premier martial arts association in your area. * Yes, parents do see a marked improvement in concentration levels at school when children have been training with us for a period. * The above classes are for beginner grade children only. * Classes are structured to be fun yet disciplined. We have strict rules regarding fighting / play fighting outside of the classes! * All beginners train in their tracksuit bottoms and t-shirts, they will need a drink of water for during the class. * Our Karate Suits (Gi) cost £35 which includes delivery, white belt & embroidery of Association badge. You do not need to purchase this until you are happy that your child is going to continue their training for the foreseeable future. * Beginner class fees are £26 per calendar month, payable by standing order. We like to encourage students to train as much as possible and even though we only charge for one lesson per week, this fee allows unlimited training in any suitable class, but of course it is up to you how often your child trains! Fees are payable for every month of the year you are a member regardless of attendance. One months’ notice of cancellation in writing is required. * Fees are discounted where more than one direct family members are training! * Please note that once graded to intermediate level students are required to move up a class and train at least twice weekly whenever possible. Monthly fees do increase at Intermediate level. * If for any reason you miss your regular nights training, this can be made up any time at any suitable class within the Association without prior notice! * We do not have Mums, Dads or Guardians in the hall during classes as over the years we have found that children, especially the younger ones tend to join in and enjoy the classes so much more when Mum or Dad aren't looking on. * All Martial Artists no matter how young or old must be licensed! This is a yearly fee, the first year’s licence fee is £27 and includes your Licence & record book, thereafter yearly fees are £22. * All children are taught not to bully and how not to be bullied! Welcome to Foxwood Academy and welcome to our website. Hopefully, you will find all of the information you need on our website but if you have any specific questions you can contact us directly at the Academy. The ‘Help for Everyone’ drop down menu on the far right hand side provides you with clips and links to videos that you might find really useful and the ‘Site Map’ section in the ‘About Us’ menu will take you to a list of everything on the website. We are a school for children and young people with SEND but also a school for parents and carers. We want to provide you with the support and help that you might need and hopefully this website is your first stop. The children, young people and staff at Foxwood are remarkable. We have just over 110 children and young people and approximately 60 staff. Our youngest children start at age 4 and our oldest leave us at the age of 18. All of our children and young people have an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP) and all of our children have difficulties with cognition and learning. About 75% of our children would be described as children and young people with an Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC or sometimes called ASD) and others can be described as having Sensory and /or Physical needs. We have a very strong set of core values here at Foxwood that guide us in every decision and action that we take. We believe in: Education – That every child with a special educational need deserves the best possible education available provided by the best teachers in the best schools and Academies. Independence – That every child and young person is given the opportunity to be as independent as they possibly can be. Celebration – That the children and young people should be happy here and celebrate their part in our community. Learning for Life – That Foxwood is a stepping-stone to bright futures. Futures where young adults can be happy, healthy, independent, and play an active part in society.
