I graduated from The University of the West of England in 1993 with a BA (hons) Ceramics. I then went on to qualify as a teacher lecturing in Ceramics and Art & Design for ten years. Fifteen years ago, I was asked to produce a mosaic for my daughters school. I absolutely loved the technique and materials and was instantly hooked. I now work full-time as a Mosaic Artist from my studio in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. Mosaic is a fantastic medium for students to work with; it's a really easy technique to learn, but one that can produce truly impressive results. Offering workshops at my studio in Worcestershire, in schools and within the community has allowed me to continue teaching. I enjoy helping students to learn new skills whilst developing their own creativity.

Stephen, born with a disability himself, was only too aware of the many barriers that can exist for so many groups within society, which make participating in mainstream activities more difficult. Stephen is hugely passionate about championing inclusivity and was driven to create opportunities for everyone, supporting those who need help the most. He wanted to provide opportunities to support individuals and families from all walks of life, focusing on those who may face additional challenges. Stephen set up The Mason Foundation to remove barriers, provide opportunities to build lasting friendships, and celebrate inclusivity. His mission is centered around reducing inequalities and helping everyone live happy, healthy, active, and fulfilled lives. The first initiative launched by the Foundation was The Mason Mile – locally centred, community-based miles, where everyone can come together to do 15 minutes of activity, doing #TheirMileTheirWay, regardless of ability or disability. This has continued to evolve and now includes additional programmes such as The Family Mile and The Community Mile. In 2021, following the devastating impact of the pandemic, the global economy was struggling with a shortage of workers for entry-level roles. The Mason Foundation, through an existing partnership with The Oaks Specialist College, was also very aware of the challenges facing young people with learning disabilities to successfully secure and maintain appropriate employment, specifically in entry-level roles. It felt like there was a huge disconnect. This led to the development of Propel, a programme set up to overcome barriers and support young people with learning disabilities into work.

Poplars Farm was bought by Mr and Mrs Warrington in 1979 in order for their daughter Mandy to further her career as a riding instructor by opening a riding school. Over the years Mandy and her family have built the centre to become one of the most reputable in the area. Mandy had a passion for riding as a child and was fortunate enough to have her own ponies. She was a keen show jumper and progressed through the ranks from ponies to horses and competed successfully with her best horse Merry-Go-Round. Mandy gained her teaching qualifications under Sue Snow at Field House Equestrian, where she became a BHS AI (BHS Stage 3 Coach) before leaving to start up her own riding school. During the early years here at Poplars Mandy met her husband Chris, who also works on the farm, and they had two daughters Philippa and Francesca. Mandy then started to live her passion for horses through her daughters, who both competed from a very young age. Both girls were successful in the showing world for many years, their most famous pony being Barkway Honey Bee (Beebee). Together they won many prestigious competitions and BeeBee gave them both the first of many rides at the Horse of the Year Show. Philippa (Pip) currently works full time as a riding instructor alongside her mum here at Poplars. Having graduated with a first class honours degree in law; she followed her heart and her love of horses and joined her mother at the riding school, she is a BHS II (BHS Stage 4 coach). While predominantly teaching here at Poplars, Pip also does freelance teaching and schooling and has recently become a British Dressage Judge. As well as showing, Pip has competed in affiliated dressage & eventing. Pip has two children, Bonnie & Ralphie. Bonnie, now aged 4 has already started her competitive riding career & had a successful first season with homebred Poplabee Georgie Porgie last year, finishing 6th in the Stars Champion of Champions final at Aintree international and gained the best young rider award from her riding club. Francesca (Chez) also works full time at the riding school, she is a BHS Stage 2 and has completed a Masters Degree in History. Chez has always competed her horses and ponies after being introduced by her mother, and was British Dressage Quest National Champion in 2018 with her horse Future Enigma. She also has a daughter, Harriet, who is proving to be a keen horse rider, and is looking to make her showing debut this summer as she approaches age 3. Victoria Witham is the newest member of the teaching staff here at Poplars. Vicky learnt to ride with ourselves and recently passed her BHS Stage 2 teach exam to become a qualified coach. A pleasant, hardworking and valued member of staff Vicky has the same passion for horses as Mandy, Pip & Chez, which makes her a great addition to the team. In terms of teaching staff, we are also proud to have freelance instructor Tara Godfrey available for lessons. Tara, a BHS Stage 4 coach, who has also gained her Stable Managers & most recently her Stage 5 teach exam, brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our team. Tara has previously worked all over the world, and therefore brings a huge amount of experience. Her passion is show jumping, having jumped competitively to 1m15. She has also competed to a very good level in dressage & eventing. Our teaching staff are supported by our lovely little team of yard staff, which includes our new apprentice Lewis. An apprentice from Reaceheath College, Lewis also learnt to ride with ourselves and is now following his passion of horses.

June 2011. We take children from Ledbury Primary School and over twenty other local primary schools in Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire. Introduction from the Headteacher Site and Facilities The school is situated close to the edge of the town with views over the surrounding countryside. Subject departments have well-equipped suites of teaching rooms, all with interactive touch screens and we have seven ICT suites and over three hundred computers so that computer-based facilities are always available. Our sport and leisure complex provides excellent indoor facilities together with a large, floodlit Astroturf pitch. In 2009 we opened our Student Services Centre, the first of its kind to be established in Herefordshire. The Centre sets a new standard for inclusive and supportive secondary education, bringing together all essential pastoral and academic support services under one roof. Sixth Form Our Sixth Form Centre is housed in a purpose-built, separate suite of teaching rooms, an ICT network, study room, common room and offices. We have an open entry policy with courses to suit students of all abilities and aptitudes. Numbers each year average around one hundred and twenty students and this means that class sizes can be kept relatively small. Senior Leadership Team Our Senior Leadership Team includes the Headteacher, the Deputy Headteacher, four Assistant Headteacher and the School Business Manager. Successive OFSTED reports have praised the quality of leadership and management at JMHS. The Staff Staff work well as a team and are very supportive of each other. New staff have an induction programme which is individual and matched to previous experience, skills and prior knowledge. Faculty leaders see their most important role as the support of colleagues and they are committed to helping members of their team to work as effectively as possible. Pastoral Care We have an excellent pastoral care system led by our Assistant Headteacher for Pastoral Care and expertly supported by Year Leaders and a team of form tutors. We firmly believe that each student should have key adults whose support is continuous throughout their school careers. Student Support Assistants offer excellent support to Year Leaders as well as being a contact point for both parents and students alike. All students are also allocated to a House. At the end of each academic year Houses and Year groups compete for trophies awarded for positive behaviour, high attendance, sporting achievement and participation, the learning standards, charity work and House Points. Each week students have assemblies and throughout the year take part in a series of fun and exciting challenges. We find this gives students a strong sense of identity within our school

First of all, let’s clear up the name thing. My parents weren’t so cruel as to name me Kitty Kittley… I just happened to be called Kitty and fell in love with a man called Mr Kittley! I grew up on the Kent/Sussex border and went to school in Cranbrook, but after spending 20 years living and working in London, my husband Chris and I took the plunge and moved to Hawkhurst in Kent, where we now live with our two young children. In my 20s I worked as a scuba-diving instructor and then opened my own dive school and shop in London, taking people diving around the UK and abroad. Sadly, when the recession hit in 2009, I was forced to close the business. I went on to work as a court transcriber from home, which I still do on a part-time basis. However, my passion is movement, exercise and the outdoors, so I decided to retrain as a personal trainer and fitness instructor. I’ve been a keen exerciser since my mid-20s but in 2008 I was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease, which ultimately led to me having three vertebrae fused in my lower back shortly after my son Billy was born in 2014. At the time of diagnosis, my consultant said to me, “You will be pain free if you get strong and fit.” This gave me the nudge I needed to get serious about my health and to really start taking care of my body. I am a firm believer that something good comes out of everything. Without exercise I am not quite sure where I would be. It has helped me physically and mentally a great deal and I believe that movement is one of the key elements to a happy and healthy body and that our sedentary lifestyles are to blame for many ailments. Through exercise and movement I believe that you can be stronger, healthier, banish aches and pains and be happier in yourself. I am a level 3 personal trainer and level 2 British Weight Lifting instructor based in Hawkhurst, Kent and I am qualified to work with post-natal and pregnant clients. I am also a MovNat Level 1 certified trainer. MovNat is entirely based on the practice of Natural Movement skills, i.e. movements that the human body was designed to perform. I aim to incorporate functional and natural movement into my sessions, which in turn helps with everyday life and creating a leaner, stronger and more supple body. I am also a certified Precision Nutrition Level 1 Coach and can offer nutritional advice and plans. The academy can be found nestled at the foot of the Humber Bridge in Barton upon Humber, North Lincolnshire, within a Grade II listed building known as The Ropewalk. Hall’s Barton Ropery was an international name of excellence in the shipping and many other industries for 200 years. Hall’s Ropes made on the Barton site were used on all the major shipping lines and for the first ascent of Everest. The factory was closed in 1989 and lay dormant until April 2000 when one fifth of the building was restored and opened as an arts centre housing 2 galleries, artists workshops, picture framing business and a Heritage Display. The centre currently attracts in excess of 20,000 visitors per year and is run by The Waterside Artists Co-operative. In September 2005 the rest of the building was restored and is now home to 12 artist’s studios and 18 units being used for creative industries including digital, media, design and other related industries including a fantastic coffee shop and The Nigel Brown Cookery Academy. The Academy is easily accessible by car, roughly an hours’ drive from Lincoln, Leeds, York and Sheffield with plenty of free parking.
