Learn to screen print using gold metal leaf with local artist and printmaker Lou Davis.In this advanced level screen printing workshop you will&nbsp;learn to coat, expose, print and clean silk screens. You&rsquo;ll have the opportunity to create a two-layer print with one colour layer, and one where we apply metal leaf to your design. Although no previous knowledge is assumed, you will get more from this workshop if you have attended one of our&nbsp;beginner or intermediate level screen printing workshops, or have&nbsp;previous experience of screen printing.You&rsquo;ll learn to create designs for screen printing;&nbsp;transfer your designs to a screen and print onto printmaking paper; and&nbsp;how to register your prints so they print in the same place every time. You&rsquo;ll make an edition of up to ten prints and choose your favourite to frame, ready for your wall or to give as a gift.It&rsquo;s a good idea to think about what you&rsquo;d like to print before the workshop. Please bring some ideas for artwork with you, which we&rsquo;ll draw by hand onto tracing paper during the first part of the workshop. We will have inspiration on hand if you&rsquo;re stuck!It is possible to print from digital images but these must be prepared before the workshop, so if you&rsquo;d like to take up this option, please contact us at least 7 days beforehand so we can properly advise you on what will print well. Suitable for beginners and those with more experience, in this workshop you will design and create your very own bespoke, slate garden mosaic with Jacky from Mossy Mosaic.Mosaic making fits in perfectly with our vision of a world where recycling, repurposing and upcycling is the norm. Old slate can form the perfect base for a garden mosaic, hanging from the shed or balancing on a border. Bring new colour and interest into your garden with your very own bespoke design using vitreous glass, old china and sea washed glass!In this workshop you will use a reclaimed slate base to make a gorgeous mandala mosaic. You will be shown how to cut china and vitreous glass and you can also include sea washed glass and glass nuggets as part of your design. We will embed the tiles into an adhesive mortar mixture (an alternative method to gluing &amp; grouting). Minimum number no refund policy
To ensure we can always pay our creatives a fair fee, we require a minimum number of bookings for each workshop and for this reason bookings are non-refundable. Should we have to cancel due to low numbers, we will offer you the option to swap to an alternative date or workshop, or to request a refund.
We do our very best to avoid cancellations. Since we often get late bookings, we keep our workshops on sale for as long as possible. We realise that some of you travel from afar, so if you book a space and have not yet received an email confirming your workshop is going ahead and need to make plans for your trip, please get in touch before booking any travel or accommodation so we can update you on booking numbers. On this lino printing taster workshop with Edinburgh artist Suzanne Kemplay, you will explore quick ways of creating simple images of flowers or patterns.
Suzanne will provide pre-made templates&nbsp;to speed up the design process, so that you can quickly&nbsp;move on to practice&nbsp;printing, and to learning the different techniques you can use to produce striking images.
This is a hands-on, practical and fun workshop where you will learn the basic skills of lino cutting and printing, and gain the confidence you need to create beautiful prints at home without the need for expensive equipment.&nbsp;

On this lino printing taster workshop with Edinburgh artist Suzanne Kemplay, you will explore quick ways of creating simple images of flowers or patterns.
Suzanne will provide pre-made templates to speed up the design process, so that you can quickly move on to practice printing, and to learning the different techniques you can use to produce striking images.
This is a hands-on, practical and fun workshop where you will learn the basic skills of lino cutting and printing, and gain the confidence you need to create beautiful prints at home without the need for expensive equipment. 
All the equipment and materials you will need are provided. You will take home all the prints you make, and your lino cut design so you can continue practising at home.

Beginners lino printing taster workshop

If you have ever wanted to explore sketchbook journalling, this exclusive new workshop with the Edinburgh Sketcher is the perfect place to start.
On this 3.5 hour workshop, artist Mark Kirkham - known locally as the Edinburgh Sketcher - will show you how to capture what you see quickly and lift your sketches off the page using a little watercolour, and share why sketchbook journalling has become such an important part of his day-to-day life.
You will explore how words can be used as decoration, and add depth to your drawing. 
Sketching items from still life, you will learn how to choose what to include; and how to link your sketches together using colour and composition. 
Starting with a new sketchbook, Mark will help you overcome any fears you have of facing the blank page, and build your confidence with mark making. 
Using the tips and techniques you learn on the day, you will leave ready to continue your sketchbook journalling at home.
This workshop will be held indoors in our welcoming and supportive environment in Edinburgh's City Centre New Town.

Make two fabulous festive soap and skincare gift sets on this one day workshop with The Scottish Soapworks in Edinburgh City Centre.
This is a one day, beginner-friendly organic glycerine soap making and cream blending workshop with a Christmas twist!
You will learn how to make two 100g soap bars, and blend 200g of Vitamin E-rich hand and body cream, using a specially selected tried-and-tested recipe featuring gorgeous festive-themed scents.
During the day, you will also learn about the properties of essential oils, and share tips and ideas for gift wrapping.
A selection of hot drinks - including mulled wine tea! - and mince pies will be served to get you in the mood. 
The day will end with a gift wrapping session around our festive craft table, with a selection of items to choose from.
Earth conscious credentials
We are mindful of the effect we have on the environment, and do our best to minimise our impact.

Looking for a fun and festive way to get into the holiday spirit? Join our Christmas wreath workshop, where you'll learn how to make macramé tree decorations and create a beautiful wreath to decorate your home. And we'll be including a complimentary tipple: a glass of mulled wine, or pot of Shibui mulled tea.
In this three-hour workshop, you'll start by learning the basics of macramé and creating your own Christmas tree decorations. Using soft cotton or jute cord, we'll teach you how to tie knots to make unique and beautiful ornaments. You'll have the opportunity to experiment with different colours and patterns to create decorations that are perfect for your home.
After we've created our tree decorations, we'll move on to creating a stunning Christmas wreath using the macrame techniques you've just learned. Using a metal hoop as the base, we'll teach you how to add layers of knots to create a beautiful and textured wreath. Please bring along any trinkets, beads or ribbons you have at home and we will show you how to incorporate these making it a truly personalised and unique piece.
Don't worry if you're new to macrame or crafting - this workshop is designed for all skill levels. Our expert instructor will guide you through the process and answer any questions you may have.
At the end of the workshop, you'll have a beautiful wreath to display in your home, as well as unique Christmas tree decorations that you can enjoy for years to come. Plus, you'll have learned a new skill and had a fun and festive time with fellow crafters.
